It\u2019s time for one of the biggest matches in the career of Mia<\/strong> Yim<\/strong> at NXT<\/strong> Takeover<\/strong><\/em>: Toronto<\/strong><\/em> against Shayna<\/strong> Baszler<\/strong> for the NXT Women\u2019s championship.\u00a0 It just so happens to be taking place during Yim’s tenth anniversary as a pro wrestler.<\/p>\n

The thirty-year old debuted in August of 2009 and she hasn\u2019t looked back since.\u00a0 Wrestling across the globe on a mission to be known as one of the world’s best females in wrestling. Mia Yim has adopted many different ring styles during her time in various promotions and her determination has finally brought her to the bright lights of WWE<\/strong>. After competing in the first WWE<\/strong> Mae<\/strong> Young<\/strong> Classic<\/strong><\/em> in 2017, ironically losing to Shayna Baszler in the Semi-Finals, Mia returned to the second WWE Mae Young Classic tournament in 2018 and signed a contract with WWE.<\/p>\n

Rising from valet to champion can\u2019t be easy, but that\u2019s exactly what the all-rounder did after taking an early interest in volleyball. Mia went from managing Adam<\/strong> Cole<\/strong> in Combat<\/strong> Zone<\/strong> Wrestling<\/strong> (CZW<\/strong>) to standing atop SHINE<\/strong> as the SHINE champion. Both Mia Yim and Adam Cole were trained by DJ<\/strong> Hyde<\/strong> at CZW<\/strong> and her time in CZW hardened her, after wrestling in intergender matches and wrestling Mickie<\/strong> James<\/strong> just one year into her career. After starting in Jersey<\/strong> All<\/strong>–Pro<\/strong> Wrestling<\/strong> (JAPW<\/strong>), Yim also trained at the Ring<\/strong> Of<\/strong> Honor<\/strong> Wrestling<\/strong> Academy<\/strong> and became a valet for The Embassy<\/strong>. Mia Yim and Stokely<\/strong> Hathaway<\/strong> are now in NXT together too.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Head Baddie In Charge\u201d also spent time in\u00a0Impact<\/strong> Wrestling <\/strong>where she certainly turned heads with her reign as the Knockouts Champion after breaking out of the highly-sexualized Dollhouse<\/strong> faction with Taryn<\/strong> Terrell<\/strong> and Marti<\/strong> Bell<\/strong>. It was during this time as Jade<\/strong> in Impact Wrestling and starting in SHIMMER<\/strong> that she became the total package with wins over Hikaru<\/strong> Shida<\/strong>, Gail<\/strong> Kim<\/strong>, Toni<\/strong> Storm<\/strong>, Kimber<\/strong> Lee<\/strong> and Madison<\/strong> Eagles<\/strong>, just to name a few. As Jade, she main-evented Impact Wrestling TV against Rosemary<\/strong> in a Six-Sides Of Steel match and a Last Knockout Standing match for the Knockouts championship.\u00a0 This was on Yim’s way out of the company.<\/p>\n

The former Queen Of Southside<\/strong> champion has constantly evolved her look with different ring gear and hair colors.\u00a0 She has also gained charisma through the years in a business that is constantly \u201cwhat have you done for me lately?\u201d That drive has pushed Mia Yim to adopt the dangerous Package Piledriver as a finishing move in the past. Mia Yim has previously challenged Io<\/strong> Shirai<\/strong> for the Wonder Of STARDOM<\/strong>\u00a0championship in 2015 and toured Japan for Reina Joshi Puroreso. The career of Mia Yim has had many ups and downs but nobody can take away the fact that she has cleanly defeated Keith<\/strong> Lee<\/strong> for BEYOND<\/strong> Wrestling<\/strong> in a special intergender match before they both signed with WWE NXT.<\/p>\n

There has always been a certain swagger about Mia Yim because she picked up the wrestling business very quickly but her confidence is at an all-time high with her current \u201cBlasian Baddie\u201d persona, embracing her African-American and Korean roots fully. The microphone seems like it was meant to be in Yim’s hands after she has spent a career making waves with incredible women on the American independent scene but not really refining her mic skills. WWE is lucky to have Mia Yim, she can have a great match with anyone and isn\u2019t afraid to get hardcore after wrestling in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match in the past. After being a Rosebud to Adam<\/strong> Rose<\/strong> for WWE in 2014 and 2015, Mia Yim is where she should be in WWE and this first decade is just the start for Mia Yim.<\/p>\n
