They may be dream matches, first-time\u00a0matchups,\u00a0or hotly anticipated rematches.\u00a0<\/em><em>Today\u2019s edition looks at a huge 6-man tag team with DEFY Wrestling in Tacoma, Washington, where legendary NJPW star Jushin &#8220;Thunder&#8221; Liger leads a trio against the son of one his early rivals, Brian Pillman.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, August 23 in Tacoma, Washington, <strong>DEFY Wrestling<\/strong> is hosting an event as part of New Japan legend <strong>Jushin &#8220;Thunder&#8221; Liger<\/strong>&#8216;s farewell tour as he prepares to retire from the ring this coming January at <em><strong>NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14<\/strong><\/em>. At <em><strong>DEFYance Forever<\/strong><\/em>, Jushin &#8220;Thunder&#8221; Liger will lead a trio featuring NJPW Young Lions <strong>Karl Fredericks<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Alex Coughlin<\/strong> against the trio of <strong>Brian Pillman Jr.<\/strong> and former DEFY Tag Team Champions <strong>Amerikan Gunz<\/strong> (Ethan HD &amp; Mike Santiago). It&#8217;s a match that brings history full circle, as one of Liger&#8217;s earliest rivalries was against his father, the late <strong>Brian Pillman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>JUSHIN &#8220;THUNDER&#8221; LIGER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40463\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40463\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40463\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/Screen-Shot-2019-03-10-at-5.13.10-PM-e1552252491768.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"385\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40463\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: NJPW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jushin Liger first encountered the senior Brian Pillman on a New Japan excursion to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in the late 1980s, when he worked and trained at the Hart Dungeon with <strong>Stu Hart<\/strong> and <strong>Stampede Wrestling<\/strong>. Wrestling under his real name of <strong>Keiichi Yamada<\/strong>, Liger was an occasional tag team partner of <strong>Owen Har<\/strong>t and Brian Pillman in Stampede. After Liger left Canada to return to NJPW and Pillman left to join WCW, the two would next meet up in 1991 at <em><strong>NJPW Violent Storm in Kokugikan<\/strong><\/em> that summer. By the fall, Liger would join WCW through an alliance between WCW and NJPW, and he would resume working against Pillman on WCW House Shows. An explosive personality and wild child aura reminiscent of his father, Pillman Jr. has not shied away from his father and familial history &#8211; instead, he&#8217;s embraced it with full abandon.
