For years now, <strong>Joey Janela<\/strong> has had a successful run of special events under the GCW banner, from his iconic <em><strong>Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break<\/strong><\/em> over <strong>WrestleMania<\/strong> Week, to <em><strong>Joey Janela&#8217;s Lost in New York<\/strong><\/em>, to <em><strong>Joey Janela&#8217;s LA Confidential<\/strong><\/em>. With Janela moving exclusively to <strong>All Elite Wrestling<\/strong> in October, it may be some time before we see Janela on the indies again after his <em><strong>Curtain Call<\/strong><\/em> with GCW on September 30. <em>Joey Janela&#8217;s Escape From LA<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fite.tv\/watch\/gcw-joey-janella-escape-from-la\/2oyga\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">airs live on Fite.tv<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Preview: GCW &#8211; Joey Janela&#8217;s Escape From LA (8\/9\/19)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Alex Zayne vs. Blake Christian<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51816\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51816\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51816\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/EBOqfzsUEAAGCii-e1565043469933.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51816\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: GCW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Alex Zayne<\/strong> has gone from relative unknown backyard wrestler to the indie&#8217;s current viral sensation, all thanks to taking part in GCW&#8217;s <em><strong>Backyard Wrestling<\/strong><\/em> event on July 4th. Since then, he&#8217;s worked multiple GCW shows, events with <strong>Beyond Wrestling, <\/strong><strong>Southern Underground Pro (SUP)<\/strong>, <strong>Freelance Wrestling, <\/strong>as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CHIKARApro\/status\/1158082742179024896\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">entering the Rey de Voladores tournament<\/a> on <em><strong>King of Trios<\/strong><\/em> weekend with <strong>CHIKARA<\/strong>. He&#8217;s facing a rising star from the South in <strong>Blake Christian<\/strong>, who debuted at <em><strong>GCW Lights Up<\/strong><\/em> and has worked GCW ever since. Two breakout stars looking to shine, this will be a fun match.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Jungle Boy vs. Jimmy Lloyd<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51811\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51811\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51811\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/D_s5mX6WwAA0x1F-e1565043488304.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51811\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: GCW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another indie star heading full-time to AEW in October is the West Coast&#8217;s<strong> Jungle Boy<\/strong>. The high flyer was a West Coast rising star when he appeared for GCW last year at <em>LA Confidential<\/em>, and his star exploded. He&#8217;s facing off against the Prince of American Hardcore in the &#8220;Different Boy&#8221; <strong>Jimmy Lloyd<\/strong>, who has quietly become one of GCW&#8217;s most dependable workers. He moves well for a bigger wrestler, but still maintains the intensity of a big man, going toe to toe in any style.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Kris Statlander vs. Chris Dickinson<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51813\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51813\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51813\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/D9nc84cXUAEi0gI-e1565043508628.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51813\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: GCW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of 2019&#8217;s biggest breakouts has been that of <strong>Kris Statlander<\/strong>. She&#8217;s only been wrestling since 2017, but <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2019\/03\/01\/indie-watch-aliens-among-us-kris-statlander-ready-to-conquer-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">she&#8217;s already one of the brightest new stars in the game<\/a>. She&#8217;s become a superstar thanks to her recent work with Beyond Wrestling this year, from her steel cage match at <em><strong>Americanrana &#8217;19<\/strong><\/em> against <strong>Kimber Lee<\/strong>, to classic matches with <strong>AR Fox, Solo Darling, <\/strong>and Joey Janela. She&#8217;s also had some great matches with the likes of <strong>Jordynne Grace, Mercedes Martinez<\/strong>, and <strong>Allysin Kay<\/strong>. She&#8217;s heading into intergender waters again this Friday and she&#8217;s facing one of Beyond&#8217;s absolute machines in &#8220;Dirty Daddy&#8221; <strong>Chris Dickinson<\/strong>. Tough as nails and a technical sharpshooter, Dickinson is the real deal and a complete package. This could be Statlander&#8217;s breakout performance, in much the same way <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=itbdZuduPCU\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tessa Blanchard<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>WrestleCircus<\/strong> classic against <strong>Brian Cage<\/strong><\/a> was for her.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Masato Tanaka vs. Tony Deppen<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51815\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51815\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51815\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/EBBDxMBW4AY-N5J-e1565044555294.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"314\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51815\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: GCW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Former ECW World Heavyweight Champion <strong>Masato Tanaka<\/strong> is still as tough and methodical now as he was back in the late 1990s when he was battling the likes of <strong>Mike Awesome<\/strong>. Since leaving ECW in 2000, Tanaka has returned to Japan. And while he&#8217;s worked several events for <strong>NJPW, All Japan, Pro Wrestling NOAH<\/strong> and others, he&#8217;s spent the bulk of the last 18-years with <strong>Pro Wrestling ZERO1<\/strong>, where he&#8217;s a 4x ZERO1 World Champion. He&#8217;s facing off against one of GCW&#8217;s best pure grapplers in <strong>Tony Deppen<\/strong>. Deppen has had an incredible year, split mostly between GCW and CHIKARA, and it&#8217;s been rewarded with<a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2019\/07\/17\/battle-of-los-angeles-2019-pwg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> his first invitation to <strong>Pro Wrestling Guerrilla<\/strong>&#8216;s prestigious <strong>Battle of Los Angeles<\/strong><\/a> next month.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Joey Janela vs. Dustin Thomas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51814\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51814\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51814\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/EA-1dC4XsAUDndJ-e1565043530829.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51814\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: GCW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Joey Janela is obviously working his own event in Los Angeles on Friday, and his opponent is another indie star who became a viral sensation thanks to GCW, in <strong>Dustin Thomas<\/strong>. After debuting last year, the bilateral amputee gained national and international attention following his appearance at <em>Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break 3<\/em> this spring, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2019\/05\/04\/bilateral-amputee-wrestler-dustin-thomas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">subsequent appearance in the Casino Battle Royale for AEW&#8217;s <em><strong>Double or Nothing<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>GCW World Championship: Nick Gage (c) vs. Jimmy Havoc<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51812\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51812\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51812\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/D8_UejoXYAEcNp8-e1565043549275.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51812\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: GCW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Nick Gage<\/strong>&#8216;s World Championship run in GCW has been a reign of dominance and terror. On Friday night, he&#8217;ll have held the title for over 600 days, after defeating <strong>Matt Tremont<\/strong> at <em><strong>Ready to Die<\/strong> <\/em>in December of 2017. Since then, Gage has fought some of the world&#8217;s most dangerous men to retain his title &#8211; such as <strong>Homicide, Rickey Shane Page, Mance Warner, Sabu, Brody King, SHLAK<\/strong> and <strong>Eric Ryan<\/strong> &#8211; as well as some of the strangest (such as <strong>Orange Cassidy, Teddy Hart<\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/11\/17\/there-will-be-blood-david-arquettes-first-deathmatch-ends-wildly-graphic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>David Arquette<\/strong><\/a>). But on Friday he faces another AEW roster member and one of the most lethal men to come from the UK indie scene in <strong>Jimmy Havoc<\/strong>. While Havoc isn&#8217;t as physically imposing as someone like Tremont, SHLAK or <strong>KTB<\/strong>, his penchant for violence is far more cerebral. He&#8217;s used his twisted form of wrestling prowess to hold some lengthy title reigns in Britain, such as a 609-day reign as <strong>PROGRESS<\/strong> World Champion and 770-days as the <strong>International Pro Wrestling (IPW)<\/strong> World Championship.
