{"id":51793,"date":"2019-08-05T12:03:04","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T16:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/?p=51793"},"modified":"2019-08-05T17:56:51","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T21:56:51","slug":"amazing-red-to-make-njpw-debut-at-super-j-cup-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2019\/08\/05\/amazing-red-to-make-njpw-debut-at-super-j-cup-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazing Red to Make NJPW Debut at Super J Cup 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Japanese legend <strong>Jushin Thunder Liger<\/strong> prepares to retire from the ring this coming January, he&#8217;s dusting off a tournament in New Japan <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2019\/04\/17\/25-years-ago-the-super-j-cup-is-born\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that he himself created in 1994<\/a>. <em><strong>The Super J Cup<\/strong><\/em> was a Junior Heavyweight tournament that ran in 1994 and 1995 and then sporadically since (2000, 2004, 2009, and 2016 respectively), traditioning bringing in Junior Heavyweight representatives from multiple promotions. While NJPW has always been a constant, past Super J Cups have seen competitors from <strong>Frontier Martial Arts-Wrestling (FMW), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), Wrestle Assocaition-R (WAR), Michinoku Pro,<\/strong> <b>Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Pro Wrestling NOAH <\/b>and <strong>AAA Lucha Libre<\/strong>. Previous winners of the Super J Cup include <strong>Wild Pegasus<\/strong> (Chris Benoit, 1994), <strong>Jushin Thunder Liger<\/strong> (1995, 2000), <strong>Noamichi Marufuji<\/strong> (2004, 2009), and <strong>KUSHIDA<\/strong> (2016). Jushin Thunder Liger will be hosting the Super J Cup, but will not be wrestling in this year&#8217;s 25th-anniversary edition.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51796\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51796\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51796\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/unnamed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/unnamed.jpg 600w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/unnamed-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51796\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: NJPW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>New Japan has been slowly announcing this year&#8217;s field of competitors featuring CMLL&#8217;s <strong>Caristico<\/strong> and <strong>Dragon Lee<\/strong>, former WWE Cruiserweight Champion <strong>TJP<\/strong>, and NJPW&#8217;s <strong>Taiji Ishimori, Roppongi 3K<\/strong> (SHO &amp; YOH), <strong>BUSHI<\/strong>, and <strong>Ryusuke Taguchi<\/strong>. But one of the more exciting names announced is former IMPACT Wrestling star and indie legend <strong>Amazing Red<\/strong>. Amazing Red is also planning to retire this year but <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2019\/06\/14\/amazing-red-will-ospreay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has hinted he&#8217;d like his final match to be against New Japan&#8217;s <strong>Will Ospreay<\/strong><\/a>. Should Ospreay be ultimately announced for Super J Cup&#8217;s 16-man field, that would definitely be a dream match many would expect.
