Toronto’s Smash Wrestling<\/strong><\/a> is hosting a slew of events throughout SummerSlam week with the likes of PROGRESS Wrestling<\/strong> from the UK, Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw)<\/strong>, China’s Oriental Wrestling Entertainment (OWE)<\/strong>, SHIMMER, RISE, <\/strong>and Quebec’s Femme Fatales<\/strong>. But arguably no event is bigger for Smash than their flagship marquee event of the year, Super Showdown<\/strong>. Now in its seventh year, it’s the biggest show of the year for Smash Wrestling and this Friday Smash pulls out all stops for Super Showdown VII<\/strong><\/em>. While Smash tapes all their shows for inclusion on their Smash Wrestling TV show on Fight Network, due to recent new restrictions of NXT UK stars not being able to be filmed for broadcast, many of these matches will not make it to air. So if you\u2019re in the Toronto area,\u00a0you may want to see this card live<\/a>\u00a0to see the full card.<\/p>\n

Preview: Smash Wrestling – Super Showdown VII (8\/9\/19)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The First-Ever “What’s In The Boxes” Match, featuring Psycho Mike<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Smash Wrestling’s resident lunatic is “Psycho Mike” Rollins<\/strong>, former Smash Tag Team Champion with Pepper Parks<\/strong> in Well Oiled Machines<\/strong>. Since the tandem split, Psycho Mike has slid into the mouth of madness, as his “conscience” dictates his actions while Rollins is in the ring. Not many details about this one, but expect it to be some kind of a scramble match with various boxes around and in the ring. What’s in the box? Well, that’s the fun of it…<\/p>\n

Smash Tag Team Championship: Halal Beefcake (Idris Abraham & Joe Coleman) (c) vs. Fight or Flight (Gabriel Fuerza & Vaughn Vertigo)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Halal Beefcake<\/strong> has been thorns in the side of the Smash tag team division since 2016, and at the Smash\/IMPACT Wrestling<\/strong> iPPV Brace for IMPACT<\/strong><\/em> in February, they finally won Smash Tag Team gold. They’re closing in on 200 days but they’re facing one of Canada’s emerging tag team sensations in Fight or Flight<\/strong>. The youngsters haven’t had success against Halal Beefcake yet, but with the titles on the line at Smash’s biggest show of the year, this just may be their night.<\/p>\n

Jason Kincaid vs. Tyson Dux vs. Carter Mason<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A triple threat between three very skilled grapplers with three unique styles. Tyson Dux<\/strong> is a Canadian indie legend, having worked for Ring of Honor<\/strong>, IMPACT Wrestling and WWE’s Cruiserweight Classic, and is the longest-reigning Smash Champion in history. Jason Kincaid<\/strong> is a veteran of the US indies such as EVOLVE Wrestling, IWA Mid South<\/strong> and others, and has spent the past two years touring Japan with DDT Pro<\/strong>. Carter Mason<\/strong> is another long-time Canadian indie veteran and “The King of the North” made his Smash debut in 2017 and has climbed the ladder with great momentum.<\/p>\n

Veda Scott vs. Jody Threat<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Veda Scott<\/strong> made her name as a part of Ring of Honor during the 2010s, but since she departed ROH in 2016, she’s found more success in Europe with the likes of Germany’s wXw and in the UK with Over the Top (OTT), Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE)<\/strong> and Preston City Wrestling (PCW)<\/strong>. She’s also worked Japan with Tokyo Joshi Pro<\/strong> and DDT Pro. She’s back in North America with Smash on Friday and will be taking on one of Smash’s breakout stars of 2019 in Jody Threat<\/strong><\/a>. Threat recently made her own UK debut and is coming back from a short tour with PROGRESS in England.<\/p>\n

Sebastian Suave vs. Rosemary<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For a while, IMPACT Wrestling’s talents were forbidden from working many indies, and Rosemary<\/strong> was forced to say goodbye to the promotion that gave birth to Rosemary<\/a> and the feud with Allie\/Cherry Bomb<\/strong>. In April of 2017, she said goodbye to Smash in a match against “The Endorsement” Sebastian Suave<\/strong> that saw Rosemary leave on a loss. She’s returning this Friday for redemption against Suave, and she’s stated on Social Media that she’ll be sending her original Smash persona (“the Wrath shard”) of Courtney Rush<\/strong> to take out Suave once and for all.<\/p>\n

LuFisto vs. Jordynne Grace<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For years, a young Jordynne Grace<\/strong> paired up alongside indie veteran and pioneer LuFisto<\/strong> in the tag team Team PAWG<\/strong>. The two heavy-hitters took down tag team after tag team, backing down from no tandem, men or women. But last year at Shine 54<\/strong><\/em>, Grace turned on her mentor<\/a> and refused to help “carry” her anymore. The two would meet up shortly after at the Smash CANUSA Classic 2018<\/strong><\/em>, in a classic battle of two scorned teammates. On Friday night, the two former allies will lock up once again, as LuFisto continues her retirement tour, while Grace’s star continues to rise in IMPACT Wrestling.<\/p>\n

The Pillars (Tarik & Brent Banks) vs. WALTER & Daisuke Sekimoto<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Pillars\u00a0<\/strong>is Smash’s top stable, a quartet of four men who have been with Smash Wrestling since its early days and brought prestige to the company. Sebastian Suave and Tyson Dux are in other matches, but the other two, former Smash Champion Tarik<\/strong> and Brent Banks<\/strong>, are teaming up to take on an international duo. And not just any international duo, but two of the hardest hitting men in the world today. One member is reigning NXT UK and PROGRESS Champion WALTER<\/strong><\/a>, while he’s partnering with former 4x Big Japan Wrestling<\/strong> Strong World Champion Daisuke Sekimoto<\/strong>. This should be an absolute clinic.<\/p>\n

Smash Championship: Kevin Bennett (c) vs. Mike “Speedball” Bailey<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Smash’s most hated man, Kevin Bennett<\/strong>, finally got to the top of the ladder this June when he defeated Tarik for the Smash Championship<\/a>. But on Friday night – just days after facing NXT UK Champion WALTER – he’ll be putting his Smash title on the line against one of the best Canadian indie stars in the world today, Mike “Speedball” Bailey<\/strong><\/a>, who returns from his tours of Europe and Japan looking to win gold in his home country.<\/p>\n
