Past winners have included <strong>Daniel Bryan<\/strong> (2010), <strong>Axel Tischer<\/strong> (Alexander Wolfe, 2012), <strong>Zack Sabre Jr.<\/strong> (2013), <strong>Matt Riddle<\/strong> (2017), and this spring&#8217;s winner, Japan&#8217;s <strong>Shigehiro Irie<\/strong>. While AMBITION is usually once a year, wXw is throwing a special <em><strong>AMBITION 11<\/strong><\/em> while in Canada for <strong>SummerSlam<\/strong> Week, held in the afternoon on Thursday, August 8. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketscene.ca\/events\/24400\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tickets are still available<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>AMBITION First Round Match: Bobby Gunns vs. Daniel Makabe<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51719\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51719\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51719\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/D_YDJUCWwAEbOox-e1564964138581.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51719\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The reigning wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion, <strong>Bobby Gunns<\/strong> is entering his seventh AMBITION tournament. His best performance came in 2016 at <em><strong>AMBITION 7<\/strong><\/em>, where he made the finals by defeating <strong>Zack Sabre Jr.<\/strong> and <strong>Axel Dieter Jr.<\/strong> (NXT UK&#8217;s Marcel Barthel), only to lose to <strong>Sasa Keel<\/strong>. He&#8217;s facing one of Canada&#8217;s top indie prospects in <strong>Daniel Makabe<\/strong>, who is just coming off <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2019\/08\/05\/andnew-daniel-makabe-wins-scenic-city-invitational\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">winning the <strong>Scenic City Invitational Tournament<\/strong> this past weekend<\/a>. A regular with Seattle&#8217;s <strong>3-2-1 BATTLE<\/strong> and Vancouver&#8217;s <strong>Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW)<\/strong>, Makabe is breaking out into more US indies and is looking to make big leaps heading into 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 22px;\">AMBITION First Round Match: Alexander James vs. Timothy Thatcher<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51722\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51722\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51722\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/EALczdAXkAY1JNk-e1564964172418.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51722\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Alexander James<\/strong> is normally seen alongside<strong> Jurn Simmons<\/strong> in one of wXw&#8217;s top tag teams, <strong>The Crown<\/strong>, but he&#8217;s working solo for his second AMBITION tournament. He&#8217;s going to wish he had a backup, as he&#8217;s facing a former AMBITION tournament winner in Timothy Thatcher, who won <em><strong>AMBITION 9<\/strong><\/em> last year. Entering his seventh AMBITION tournament with <em>AMBITION 11<\/em>, he&#8217;s made the finals three of those seven &#8211; winning in 2018 against <strong>Mike &#8220;Speedball&#8221; Bailey<\/strong>, after losing to Matt Riddle in 2017 at <em><strong>AMBITION 8<\/strong><\/em> and to Axel Tischer in 2012 at <strong><em>AMBITION 3<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 22px;\">AMBITION First Round Match: Daniel Garcia vs. Marius Al-Ani<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51721\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51721\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51721\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/EAaW_1iWwAIlwdI-e1564964187346.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51721\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Marius Al-Ani<\/strong> is a former wXw Shotgun Champion and wXw World Tag Team Champion alongside <strong>Absolute Andy<\/strong> in <strong>A4<\/strong>. Entering his third AMBITION tournament, Al-Ani has been an impressive force in the singles competition in wXw since leaving Andy&#8217;s side, although so far he&#8217;s struggled in AMBITION tournaments. He&#8217;s facing one of <strong>Smash Wrestling<\/strong>&#8216;s top prospects and <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/12\/17\/the-buffalo-brothers-a-western-new-york-uprising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one of the Buffalo Brothers<\/a> in &#8220;Red Death&#8221; <strong>Daniel Garcia<\/strong>. Easily one of the faces <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/12\/11\/indie-watch-red-death-daniel-garcia-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">you can expect to break out in 2020<\/a>, Garcia recently made his Beyond Wrestling debut and is poised for great things. A good showing in his first wXw AMBITION would be a huge boost.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 22px;\">AMBITION First Round Match: WALTER vs. Mike &#8220;Speedball&#8221; Bailey<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51718\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51718\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51718\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/D_Dc1ZxXoAAb74A-e1564964201893.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51718\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Only entering his third AMBITION tournament, NXT UK Champion <strong>WALTER<\/strong> has been the face of wXw for years now. A former 3x wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion and the reigning <strong>PROGRESS<\/strong> World Champion and NXT UK Champion, WALTER is in a dominating stage of momentum right now and finally winning an AMBITION tournament may be one of his last checkmarks to do in wXw. Canadian indie superstar Mike &#8220;Speedball&#8221; Bailey is entering his fourth AMBITION tournament, coming close last year at <em>AMBITION 9<\/em>, when he lost to Timothy Thatcher in the finals. On home turf in Canada, Bailey will look to win the tournament this time around, but first, he must get past &#8220;The Ring General&#8221; in the first round.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Superfight: Tyson Dux vs. Yuki Ishikawa<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51720\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51720\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51720\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/08\/D-pl8B2WkAE0lVG-e1564964153233.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51720\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For AMBITION&#8217;s Superfight this time, it&#8217;s an international match-up. <strong>Tyson Dux<\/strong> is one of Canada&#8217;s most respected indie veterans, having plied his trade with <strong>Ring of Honor, IMPACT Wrestling<\/strong>, and WWE &#8211; he was Canada&#8217;s selection for the WWE Cruiserweight Classic. He&#8217;s also one of The Pillars in Smash Wrestling, holding the Smash Championship a record 435-days. He&#8217;s facing a Japanese legend in 27-year pro <strong>Yuki Ishikawa<\/strong>. He began his career in 1992 with <strong>Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi<\/strong>, training under <strong>Yoshiaki Fujiwara<\/strong>, before heading to NJPW the following year. In 1996, he started his own promotion <strong>Fighting Investigation Team BattleArts<\/strong> (commonly just called BattleArts), which he ran until the promotion closed in 2011. He was an early mentor and trainer for former WWE Superstar <strong>Santino Marella<\/strong>, who named his own wrestling school BattleArts Academy in honor of his mentor.
