Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This edition looks at a rising star in the Canadian indies in &#8220;The Wild Child&#8221; Jody Threat from Toronto, who is starting to break into the US and UK indies.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>With her vibrant red hair and Tasmanian Devil ferocity, Toronto&#8217;s <strong>Jody Threat<\/strong> has managed to work her way up in the rigorous Canadian indie scene, emerging first as a star in the Ontario indie scene and now working internationally in a relatively short time.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51298\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51298\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51298\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/07\/D4M8vy_UEAA2suw-e1564342534152.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"500\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51298\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Shooting the Indies<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An obsessive skateboarded in her youth and beyond (she had a half pipe in her house at one point), Jody Threat turned to the world of professional wrestling in 2017 and made her debut that fall. She debuted with Hamilton, Ontario&#8217;s <strong>Courage Pro Wrestling<\/strong> before earning a shot with Toronto&#8217;s<strong> Smash <\/strong><strong>Wrestling\u00a0<\/strong>at<em><strong> Rumble<\/strong> <strong>at the Border<\/strong><\/em> in Sarnia, Ontario in November, against another emerging star in<strong> Alexia Nicole<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"[FREE MATCH] Seleziya Sparx vs. Jody Threat | Lutte 07 Volume 2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g2lZ1wYG29k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As a woman in a male dominated industry, Jody Threat was drawn to promotions <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2019\/07\/23\/promotional-consideration-smash-wrestling-toronto-ontario\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">like Smash Wrestling<\/a>, who treated her more as a wrestler than a novelty act. &#8220;Certain places are so accepting (of women&#8217;s wrestlers)&#8221;, she mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nsjuB55mxcA\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in an interview last May 2018<\/a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s very interesting how your experiences vary where you&#8217;re going&#8230;with Smash&#8230;when I have a match it&#8217;s not that I&#8217;m having a women&#8217;s match, I&#8217;m having a wrestling match. And for me, I hate when people like &#8216;Oh, you&#8217;re a great female wrestler!&#8217; I know it&#8217;s meant to be a compliment, but it drives me nuts&#8230;that&#8217;s what I really, really appreciate about Smash, you&#8217;re getting feedback based on being a wrestler, not based on being a <em>female<\/em> wrestler.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jody Threat vs Josh Alexander at Deathproof #GiveUsYourMoney\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6tvqkVTHGgc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Jody Threat rose quickly in the Ontario and Canadian indies. She worked intergender with tag partner <strong>Holden Albright<\/strong> in <strong>Riot Makers<\/strong> and became a regular with both Smash Wrestling and<strong> Barrie Wrestling<\/strong>, where she faced the likes of <strong>Vanessa Kraven, Shotzi Blackheart, LuFisto<\/strong> and <strong>Veda Scott<\/strong>. She spent the year making towns with such Canadian indies like Hamilton&#8217;s <strong>Alpha-1<\/strong>, Ottawa&#8217;s <strong>Capital City Championship Combat (C4)<\/strong>, and Quebec&#8217;s <strong>Federation de Lutte Quebecoise (FLQ)<\/strong>. In February this year, she continued her influx into the US indies, by working with <strong>AAW<\/strong> in Chicago for <em><strong>Fight for the Future<\/strong><\/em> during <em><strong>The Art of War<\/strong><\/em> weekend, as well as <strong>Glory Pro<\/strong>&#8216;s Anniversary event, where she competed in a 6-person scramble match alongside<strong> Allie Kat, Jake Lander,<\/strong> and fellow Canadians <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/09\/29\/indie-watch-sheldon-jean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sheldon Jean<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>Mark Wheeler<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fight For The Future | Savanna Stone vs. Jody Threat | AAW Pro\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LfXyAxP0lE0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In March of 2019, she expanded into the Detroit indies, winning the Tournament of Roses to crown the first <strong>Divine Pro<\/strong> Champion. During WrestleMania week, she went to New York City, where she competed in the <strong>Destiny Wrestling &amp; Fight Club: PRO<\/strong> showcase, where she faced former WWE Superstar <strong>Gangrel<\/strong>, plus others (like UK star The OJMO) in another scramble. That connection lead to her working with Fight Club: PRO this past weekend in England, where she competed in another intergender scramble alongside <strong>Travis Banks<\/strong>, <strong>Rickey Shane Page, El Phantasmo<\/strong>, and <strong>Lucky Kid<\/strong>, as well as on Saturday&#8217;s <strong>Sendai Girls<\/strong> UK event, where she competed in a Fatal Four Way with fellow Canadian <strong>Gisele Shaw<\/strong> and NXT UK Superstars <strong>Viper<\/strong> (Piper Niven) and <strong>Isla Dawn<\/strong>. On Sunday, she made her PROGRESS Wrestling debut, again facing Gisele Shaw, but also against <strong>Dani Luna<\/strong> and\u00a0<em>joshi\u00a0<\/em>freelance star\u00a0<strong>YUU<\/strong>.
