{"id":47253,"date":"2019-05-29T18:54:21","date_gmt":"2019-05-29T22:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/?p=47253"},"modified":"2019-05-29T19:00:40","modified_gmt":"2019-05-29T23:00:40","slug":"jon-moxleys-important-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2019\/05\/29\/jon-moxleys-important-message\/","title":{"rendered":"Jon Moxley: The Important Message"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By now, a lot of us will have heard the latest <em>Talk is Jericho<\/em> podcast, featuring the newly <strong>All Elite Wrestling<\/strong> acquired, <strong>Jon Moxley<\/strong> (formerly <strong>Dean Ambrose<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>The podcast comes mere days after the hugely successful <em><strong>Double or Nothing<\/strong><\/em> PPV.\u00a0 The instalment, slightly over 90 minutes, is aptly titled &#8220;the emancipation of Jon Moxley&#8221;.\u00a0 The definition of emancipation is: &#8220;the fact or process of being set free from legal, social, or political restrictions; liberation&#8221;.\u00a0 Therefore, going into this podcast, it was safe to assume that Moxley&#8217;s tone towards <strong>WWE<\/strong> was going to be somewhat negative.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"This is what you call a paradigm shift  - Jon Moxley #AEW\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7xFaEkZaWkA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It was also damning.<\/p>\n<p>What became clear over the duration of the podcast is that the current crop of WWE talent have no control over their creative direction.\u00a0 Moxley stated during the podcast that:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They hand me these scripts and, to my eye, all the things that are on these scripts &#8211; they&#8217;re typical WWE scripts.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a bunch of words, a bunch of big words, a bunch of goofy words, none of it makes any sense to me.\u00a0 We&#8217;re not telling any kind of tangible story, we&#8217;re not doing anything to get any kind of characters over or &#8211; nothing that makes any sense to me, so, you know, typical.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dean Ambrose&#039;s untamed lunatic moments: WWE Top 10, Aug. 20, 2018\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_PBfw8F-d2c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Jon Moxley also admitted to feeling &#8220;sick in the stomach&#8221; every Monday, simply because he knew that he would be dealing with the creative team.\u00a0 He admitted to confronting <strong>Vince McMahon<\/strong> about his creative direction on numerous occasions.\u00a0 Mox would often wait around Vince&#8217;s office &#8211; an, apparently, lengthy process.\u00a0 He would stick around to discuss his disgruntlement with Vince, only to be greeted with &#8220;this stuff is great! It&#8217;s so you! You&#8217;re different!&#8221; This appears to have offended Moxley, who admitted the Dean Ambrose character had become &#8220;stupid&#8221;.\u00a0 Therefore, to state that the stupid actions of Dean Ambrose are &#8220;so you&#8221; is quite offensive.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dean Ambrose punishes &quot;Seth Rollins&quot;: Raw, Oct. 20, 2014\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PVUv1Kb8uCE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Jon Moxley states during the podcast that <strong>Brock Lesnar<\/strong> being paid &#8220;millions of dollars&#8221; every year is &#8220;killing your [Vince McMahon&#8217;s] company&#8221;.\u00a0 If you remember, Mox &#8211; appearing on the <strong>Steve Austin<\/strong> podcast in 2016 &#8211; also referred to Brock as &#8220;lazy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>We have known for years that the WWE has issues with creative and, particularly, with letting its performers have control of their characters.\u00a0 This was a large part of <strong>CM Punk<\/strong>&#8216;s infamous podcast in 2014, in which he criticised McMahon&#8217;s creative process, among other things.\u00a0 CM Punk and Jon Moxley are not wrong, either.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/gMf04b3sYnM<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday Night RAW<\/strong> has made for difficult viewing for<em> years<\/em> now.\u00a0 Whereas Moxley admits to never being afraid of being fired, it is clear that others are.\u00a0 There is nothing controversial about RAW; you can tell that 99% of the roster (the 1% being <strong>John Cena<\/strong>) are afraid to go off script, for example.\u00a0 Unfortunately, as Moxley states in the podcast, the scripts &#8220;suck&#8221;.\u00a0 A good example of how bad the scripts are is the promos <strong>Ryback<\/strong> used to cut.\u00a0 Ryback &#8211; a big, overly muscular, bald-headed brute of a man &#8211; would cut strange, robotic, long-worded promos.\u00a0 A memorable one comes from 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The intercontinental Championship has a rich history of fighting champions.\u00a0 The key word there is fighting champions.\u00a0 That is what I want to be, that is my goal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The outspoken Kevin Owens confronts Ryback: Raw, September 7, 2015\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/d8q51aTOS5k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The scripted promos are, quite often, awful.\u00a0 Moxley is one of the few who could make them work; he&#8217;s a natural promo-man.\u00a0 During the podcast, Mox admits that he couldn&#8217;t save some of the heel promos he cut earlier in the year.\u00a0 The promos in which he would accuse the audience of possessing a foul odour.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dean Ambrose on why the WWE Universe makes him sick: Raw, Nov. 19, 2018\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kHpC8H1nv3E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Moxley also admits to having been upset with creative insisting on him using <strong>Roman Reigns<\/strong>&#8216; cancer battle for cheap heat.\u00a0 Whereas Moxley (as Ambrose) did mention Reigns in one promo, he revealed that there was another line he was being pushed to say.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This promo also had a line about my actual friend who&#8217;s going through leukemia that Vince wanted me to say, that he tried to talk me into saying.\u00a0\u00a0This is where I absolutely drew the line. I said, &#8216;absolutely not.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is the worst line.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not going to say it on the air, I&#8217;ll tell you after we&#8217;re done. It would have been like a thing where someone would had to get fired, maybe me. They might have like lost sponsors, like the Susan G. Komen and all of that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know who wrote it, I don&#8217;t know if it was Vince himself. If it was a writer and he&#8217;s listening right not, &#8216;you should be ashamed of yourself.&#8217; You wouldn&#8217;t believe it!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dean Ambrose unleashes a stunning assault on Seth Rollins: Raw, Oct. 22, 2018\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G3DSHWYe44Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Whereas RAW would largely benefit from an added dose of edginess, this is <em>not<\/em> what is needed.\u00a0 The fact that a writer &#8211; or even Vince McMahon &#8211; would suggest a performer make a mockery of a fellow employee&#8217;s cancer battle does nothing but display how detached creative is from the real world.\u00a0 A major sponsor of the company, as Moxley mentions, is Susan G. Komen &#8211; a charity for women&#8217;s cancer.\u00a0 To so openly jeopardise the agreement between Komen and WWE is absurd.\u00a0 To make someone publicly mock their friend&#8217;s cancer battle is heartless.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SmackDown and Susan G. Komen honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month: SmackDown LIVE, Oct. 3, 2017\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aqHT-ZLvApE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the podcast, Moxley admits to wanting WWE to succeed.\u00a0 He argues that, whereas he no longer cares for the company (&#8220;it&#8217;s in the past&#8221;), he has friends there.\u00a0 He wants the fans to have enjoyable wrestling, also.\u00a0 Additionally, a strong WWE is always what&#8217;s best for wrestling; as the largest promotion, it is the one which draws the most eyes to wrestling.\u00a0 Although Moxley cites that Vince is not a wrestling fan, because it&#8217;s &#8220;sports entertainment&#8221; to him, it is, at the end of the day, professional wrestling.\u00a0 The WWE is a wrestling company.\u00a0 The rest of the wrestling industry, therefore, relies on the WWE.<\/p>\n<p>If the WWE continues with its current creative process, it will continue to drive its talent away.\u00a0 Moxley is a true wrestling fan; someone who lives and breathes wrestling.\u00a0 Mox is someone who turned down a big money offer to stay in the company where where his wife and friends work.\u00a0 He did so simply because he wanted to wrestle for a promotion where he had more control over his character.\u00a0 If the WWE and Vince McMahon&#8217;s ludicrous approach to creative can drive impassioned performers like Moxley away, then prepare for a mass exodus.\u00a0 Not everyone can boast to being as cool and collected as Moxley and, therefore, not everyone will be as courteous as the AEW star.<\/p>\n<p>Moxley referred to WWE Universal Champion (and best friend), <strong>Seth Rollins<\/strong>, as being a &#8220;wild animal that has been tamed&#8221;.\u00a0 The point being that Seth has become too accustomed to the WWE way of doing things.\u00a0 It has blunted his edge.\u00a0 Moxley surely felt that he, himself, had become domesticated because in order to become &#8220;emancipated&#8221;, you must have previously been caged.\u00a0 The initial Moxley teaser (something Moxley self-funded) posted to his Twitter account on May 1st showed him escaping from a prison.\u00a0 Whereas at the time it was a reach to assume that the prison was representative of his time in WWE, it is now apparent that that&#8217;s exactly what it was.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonMoxley\/status\/1123438186410205184<\/p>\n<p>Moxley is finally free and his post-WWE career is surely going to be fun.\u00a0 With a run in AEW and<strong> New Japan Pro Wrestling<\/strong> to look forward to, it&#8217;s only a matter of time until current WWE stars take notice.\u00a0 Hopefully Vince McMahon takes notice first.\u00a0 In the meantime, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2019\/05\/28\/breaking-jon-moxley-joey-janela-fyter-fest\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">good luck to <strong>Joey Janela<\/strong> at AEW&#8217;s <em><strong>Fyter Fest<\/strong><\/em><\/a> event in June.\u00a0 He&#8217;s going to need it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NOW <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TalkIsJericho?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@TalkIsJericho<\/a>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonMoxley?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@JonMoxley<\/a> UNCENSORED!
