It finally happens at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StarrcastEvents?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@StarrcastEvents<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XE7dD8ZcbU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/XE7dD8ZcbU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Conrad the Mortgage Guy (@HeyHeyItsConrad) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HeyHeyItsConrad\/status\/1121112358234021889?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 24, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In the mid-80s, <strong>Vince McMahon<\/strong> was looking ahead for his next star to eventually replace <strong>Hulk Hogan<\/strong> as the company&#8217;s top star, and based on appearances and resume (he was a gymnast and bodybuilder), McMahon thought he&#8217;d found it in the athletic, shaggy haired grappler from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, who had started training with <strong>Stu Hart<\/strong> in Calgary in 1985.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44789\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44789\" style=\"width: 265px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-44789\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/megaman.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/megaman.jpg 265w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/megaman-197x300.jpg 197w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-44789\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tom Magee was brought in by the WWF in 1986 for a dark match\/tryout match in Rochester, New York on October 7, 1986 and was paired against someone who he was somewhat familiar with, in Stu&#8217;s son Bret Hart, who was already emerging as a new star for Vince&#8217;s WWF. Bret&#8217;s match with Tom Magee was so impressive, that Vince signed Tom Magee and had high hopes for the man that was soon dubbed &#8220;The Megaman&#8221;. But in subsequent matches &#8211; that didn&#8217;t feature Bret Hart as his dance partner &#8211; it became painfully apparent that Magee simply wasn&#8217;t that good. It proved to be the ultimate testament to Bret Hart&#8217;s ability to call a match, navigate the psychology of a match, and work with as little as possible, that his performance made an extremely green specimen fool Vince McMahon into thinking he&#8217;d found the Next Big Thing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Story of Tom Magee (vs. Bret Hart)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wbpc0C33Ov4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Magee would continue to work house shows for the WWF for years, but his superstar push never materialized, and finally the WWF gave up on the project altogether and he was released from the company in 1990. As mentioned by <strong>Colt Cabana<\/strong> in the video above, the match was on WWE&#8217;s blacklist that was simply unavailable for anyone to watch, even to those who worked for the company.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-44793\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/D23ExcFXcAAlgBe-e1556134053145.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><\/p>\n<p>The match made news again in recent weeks, when a fan named <strong>Mary-Kate Anthony<\/strong> from Florida produced a copy of the match, after she revealed that she had been given boxes of tapes from Bret Hart himself to transfer to DVD years ago, and had stumbled across the match in Bret&#8217;s collection.
