The evening was loaded with feel-good moments and none of the matches were overly dissatisfying. It’s the end, because of so many storylines that reach their conclusion, such as Becky Lynch‘s quest for the title being fulfilled and the beginning of new storylines to be explored throughout the summers like the era of Kofi Kingston.

Even though this year’s WrestleMania was not perfect, the writers put on a better show than last year. We even previously addressed three key mistakes from last year that they had to avoid this time around. They gave us everything that we asked for, which is a rarity in the WWE Universe, but WrestleMania 35 will be remembered for a long time. Let’s look at some of the mistakes that they rectified from the last year’s show of shows.

Universal Championship

Photo: WWE

WWE having Brock retain the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34 was one of the worst decisions they have ever taken. Roman Reigns winning at the end wouldn’t have satisfied the fans either, but at least it would have ensured that the championship came back to Raw. In April, both, the wrestlers and writers had just come out from the WrestleMania and need some time to get their creative juices running again. So, the summers are always hard for the management to keep entertaining. Naturally, it would become even tougher if the company’s A-show had to deliver another four months of TV without any main event storyline. The show suffered a lot last year as they lost many viewers and the quality of the storylines kept of declining.

This year, WWE rectified that mistake by letting the better man win the Universal Championship at the show of the shows. Seth Rollins at the moment is the most over guy in Raw and is someone who can get the belt to a position where it deserves to be. He is a kind of guy who has the natural talent of being the face of the company and is someone who can attract an audience on a weekly basis.

Memorable Main Event Result

Photo: WWE

A show like this will always be remembered for the last match and the last camera shot people get to see before the show goes off the air. This is the theory we fans believe…WWE, not so much. Last year’s WrestleMania had the potential to be one of best WrestleMania of all time, and it managed to deliver it to a certain extent, but the main event left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth. Both Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns’ performance was lackluster at best. The match itself was average and was just filled with blood and their respective finishers.

This year, we got Becky Lynch raising both her championship belts while the show went off-air. The match was decent as well with some memorable spots. Even though the finish took a little bit away from the women, the result was more important and we finally got the ending we needed.

Scheduling of the Matches

Photo: WWE

This year, the crowd looked really tired after the WWE Championship match and were really finding it difficult to power through the main event, but that would happen in any wrestling show that would go on for more than 5 hours. People could practically have two courses of the meal during the duration of this year’s WrestleMania. A show that went for more than 7 hours cannot be exactly said to have paced well or didn’t drag through, but the scheduling of the matches was excellent. All the three matches had enough time in between to feel different, the Universal Championship set the tone for the entire evening, and the return of the Doctor of Thuganomics was the icing on the cake. It wasn’t perfect though as the writers could have done away without Hulk Hogan or the backstage segments with Alexa Bliss, but those were just minor issues.

Photo: WWE

WrestleMania 34 felt a bit rushed in this regard. When Charlotte Flair captured Asuka‘s undefeated streak, it was one the biggest moment of the evening, but that was completely spoiled by the drunk John Cena sprinting backstage for his match. They could have done that in literally any of the matches, but they chose to take away from one of the best matches of the evening. The Raw tag team championship was practically treated as a joke because apparently, even kids from the crowd could win that and, of course, there was the main event about which I have already ranted about several times.

WrestleMania 35 wasn’t perfect. It was not even the best WrestleMania of in the history or the best show of the weekend, but WWE did try to rectify some of their past mistakes. Besides, we got a 7- second dance break and none of the title holders had to go to school the next day… and that’s what matters. So, it was a memorable show that will be talked about for years.

Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
