With WrestleMania Week<\/strong><\/em> fully upon us and all the buzz associated with it, WWE<\/strong> made an announcement today that they would be partnering with A&E Network<\/em> to produce five, original two-hour documentaries on five of the most iconic superstars of all-time: “Macho Man” Randy Savage<\/strong>, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper<\/strong>, Booker T<\/strong>, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin<\/strong> and Shawn Michaels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

WWE issued the following press release about the documentaries<\/a>, which will be produced under the award-winning A&E Biography<\/em> banner, in conjunction with WWE Studios<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

A&E NETWORK PARTNERS WITH WWE\u00ae STUDIOS TO PRODUCE FIVE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT LEGENDARY WWE\u00ae HALL OF FAMERS UNDER THE CELEBRATED \u2018BIOGRAPHY\u2019 BANNER<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York, NY \u2013 April 4, 2019 \u2013 A&E Network is partnering with WWE Studios to produce five original two-hour documentaries under the award-winning \u201cBiography\u201d banner showcasing some of the most iconic WWE Superstars of all time, including \u201cMacho Man\u201d Randy Savage\u00ae<\/sup>, \u201cRowdy\u201d Roddy Piper\u2122, Booker T\u00ae<\/sup>, Stone Cold Steve Austin\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0and Shawn Michaels\u00ae<\/sup>. Through these in-depth films helmed by some of the industry\u2019s top directors and storytellers, \u201cBiography\u201d continues its focus on meaningful events and personalities as well as their impact on our culture. Through new and archival interviews and never-before-seen footage, each feature length film will give fans an in-depth look at the early lives, rise to fame and careers of some of the most influential stars in WWE history.<\/p>\n

The first three films, currently in pre-production and slated to air in Spring 2020, include:<\/p>\n

Biography: \u201cMacho Man\u201d Randy Savage\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Directed by Billy Corben (\u201cCocaine Cowboys,\u201d \u201cScrewball,\u201d \u201cThe U\u201d), this film will tell the larger-than-life story of one of the most colorful and charismatic Superstars to ever step foot inside the ring. With two WWE Championships, four WCW\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0World Championships and a 14-month reign as Intercontinental Champion, Savage became known for his famous catch phrases, larger-than-life personality and the enormous, flashy robes he wore into the ring. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.<\/p>\n

Biography: \u201cRowdy\u201d Roddy Piper<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Directed by Emmy and Peabody Award winner Joe Lavine (ESPN 30 for 30 \u201cPlaying for the Mob,\u201d HBO \u201cNamath\u201d) this film focuses on \u201cRowdy\u201d Roddy Piper, who is universally considered one of WWE\u2019s greatest villains. During his Hall of Fame career, he played the role of the antagonist against a who\u2019s who of WWE greats, while amassing more than 30 championships.<\/p>\n

Biography: Booker T\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Directed by Emmy and Peabody Award winner George Roy (\u201cThe Curse of the Bambino\u201d, \u201cMayweather\u201d), this film showcases one of the greatest Superstars in sports entertainment history. Booker T is an 11-time WCW Tag Team Champion, a six-time World Champion, winner of the 2006 King of the Ring Tournament, and a two-time (2013 and 2019) inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. In addition to his Hall of Fame career in the ring, Booker T also went on to become a color commentator for WWE\u2019s weekly programming.<\/p>\n

Directors for\u00a0Biography: Stone Cold Steve Austin and Biography: Shawn Michaels\u00a0<\/strong>will be announced at a later date. These films are slated to air in 2021.<\/p>\n

The celebrated \u2018Biography\u2019 brand continues to highlight newsworthy personalities and events with compelling and surprising points-of-view and remains the defining source for true stories from some of the most accomplished non-fiction storytellers of our time. In 2002, seen as a “natural extension of the entertainment business” they had already built with weekly televised episodes of Raw<\/strong> and SmackDown<\/strong>, WWE launched WWE Studios, a full-service production studio that allowed the company to create movies under their own banner.
