Here&#8217;s a look at the sixteen people entered in the 2019\u00a0tournament, an event that has seen past winners such as <strong>Chris Hero<\/strong> (Kassius Ohno), <strong>WALTER, Sami Callihan, El Generico<\/strong> (Sami Zayn), <strong>Tommy End<\/strong> (Aleister Black), <strong>Zack Sabre Jr.<\/strong>, and recent NXT UK signee, <strong>Ilja Dragunov<\/strong>. More known as a tag team specialist in <strong>CCK<\/strong>, where he&#8217;s won tag team titles in nearly every major British promotion, this will be a huge test for Brookes as a singles competitor.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mark Davis<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39660\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39660\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39660\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/51024606_2305225119526090_4085665641221062656_o-e1551588936414.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39660\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Like Brookes, &#8220;Dunkzilla&#8221; <strong>Mark Davis<\/strong> is best known as a tag specialist, as he&#8217;s one half of <strong>Aussie Open<\/strong>, who have won tag titles in <strong>PROGRESS<\/strong> and <strong>HOPE<\/strong> and is currently the 2x and reigning tag champs in <strong>ATTACK!<\/strong> and <strong>Defiant<\/strong>. But prior to Aussie Open&#8217;s UK domination of late, he was a successful singles grappler in his native Australia, where he&#8217;s a former <strong>Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA)<\/strong> Heavyweight Champion and 2x PWA Queensland Champion. In both his past tournament entries, he made the finals (in 2015 and 2016) but failed to earn the tournament crown. The 25-year old Russian is a former wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion and 2x wXw Shotgun Champion and 2x wXw World Tag Team Champion. He makes his\u00a0<em>16 Carat Gold<\/em> tournament debut in the 2019 edition where the high flyer can re-focus on his singles career with a chance to add his name to a long list of legends who have won.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Shigehiro Irie<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39661\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39661\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39661\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/51056143_2305225112859424_5563822814173069312_o-e1551589012755.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39661\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>DDT Pro<\/strong> and <strong>Big Japan Wrestling<\/strong> veteran <strong>Shigehiro Irie<\/strong>, a former 3x DDT KO-D Openweight Champion, has been on a bit of a European excursion the past few months and continues by entering his first\u00a0<em>16 Carat Gold\u00a0<\/em>tournament in Germany this year. A heavy hitter, he&#8217;ll fit in well with the German style of wXw and is an early favorite to win the entire thing.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Lucky Kid<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39653\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39653\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39653\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/16_Carat_2019_Ankuendigung_Lucky_Kid_850-e1551656104282.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39653\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Lucky Kid<\/strong> is yet another competitor who has primarily excelled in tag team competition, as a former multi-time tag team champion in Europe with <strong>Tarkan Aslan<\/strong> in <strong>The Young Lions<\/strong>. Pentagon is a more than capable singles wrestler, who is a former IMPACT World Heavyweight Champion, 2x <strong>Lucha Underground<\/strong> Champion, and 2x <strong>PCW ULTRA<\/strong> Heavyweight Champion in the past year or so.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Rey Horus<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39654\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39654\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39654\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/16_Carat_2019_Ankuendigung_Rey_Horus-e1551656136932.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39654\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A veteran of Mexican lucha libre for over a decade, <strong>Rey Horus<\/strong>&#8216; stock exploded after appearing with Lucha Underground as <strong>Dragon Azteca Jr<\/strong>. His first foray is going to start off with a vendetta, as he&#8217;s facing his current arch-rival Avalanche in the first round.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>David Starr<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39667\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39667\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39667\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/DyRgPgJWwAAtB_i-e1551656186346.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39667\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>US indie star\u00a0<strong>David Starr\u00a0<\/strong>has been a regular competitor with wXw for years and enters his third consecutive\u00a0<em>16 Carat Gold\u00a0<\/em>tournament. He came close to winning last year&#8217;s edition, losing to Absolute Andy in the finals, and he&#8217;ll be looking to finally stake claim the crown of winning Europe&#8217;s most prestigious tournament. But his first round opponent is a man that has become one of his obsessions the past year, in the big man WALTER, who has been his bane in wXw as well as Ireland&#8217;s <strong>Over The Top (OTT) Wrestling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Timothy Thatcher<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39655\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39655\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39655\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/16_Carat_2019_Ankuendigung_Timothy_Thatcher-e1551656202342.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39655\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As a member of Ringkampf, <strong>Timothy Thatcher<\/strong> has had a huge presence in wXw for years now. He&#8217;s entering his fifth\u00a0<em>16 Carat Gold<\/em> tournament this year (competing every year since 2015) and last year he finally made it to the semi-finals. He&#8217;s facing a significantly smaller opponent in the opening round, Lucky Kid, that should prove to be an easy win, but only if he doesn&#8217;t look past his opponent.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>WALTER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39658\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39658\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39658\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/03\/49704413_745054822539637_9098866612004297047_n-e1551656218843.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39658\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: wXw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This will be WALTER&#8217;s ninth entry into the\u00a0<em>16 Carat Gold<\/em> tournament, making him the most experienced entrant in the field this year. He&#8217;s always had a good showing, but WALTER&#8217;s only tournament win came back in 2010.
