While not a Ring of Honor presentation, the fight has been sanctioned by ROH and will take place at an\u00a0<strong>Israeli Pro Wrestling Association (IPWA)<\/strong> event, <em><strong>Passover Bash<\/strong><\/em>, in Lehavot Haviva, Israel, at the Berale Club. I think he represents everything a pro wrestler should be, both in and out of the ring.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Pro Wrestling in Israel<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38940\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38940\" style=\"width: 396px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38940\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/02\/r_halperin-e1550801807865.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"396\" height=\"500\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38940\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rafael Halperin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Israel has had a fascination with the world of pro wrestling going back to the 1950s. The primary impetus for this curiosity stemmed from pro wrestler <strong>Rafael\u00a0Halperin<\/strong>. Born in Austria, his family moved to Israel in 1933. In the early 1950s, he traveled to the US to pursue his pro wrestling ambitions, where he worked for <strong>Vince McMahon Sr.<\/strong> in <strong>Capitol Wrestling<\/strong> (the precursor to the WWE). He would work throughout the territories of North America in the 1950s and 1960s, working the US and Canada, before returning a national hero. He retired in 1973.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"refael halperin\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_6rhHt_C8ww?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the 1980s, Texas&#8217; <strong>World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW<\/strong>) became a favorite wrestling promotion on Israeli television and <strong>Fritz Von Erich<\/strong> often brought his family to Israel for matches, furthering Israel&#8217;s growing love for the sport. A planned return from WWE in 2006 was canceled due to the Lebanon War, and in 2007, <strong>TNA\/IMPACT Wrestling<\/strong> also had plans for an Israel tour (which would have featured then IMPACT star Jay Lethal) but it was also canceled due to business reasons.
