A second generational wrestler, his father <strong>Paul Lloyd Sr.<\/strong>, a former South African wrestling star and booker for South Africa&#8217; <strong>All Stars Wrestling (AWS),\u00a0<\/strong>and Black returned to the South African indie scene a more well rounded wrestler, as well as continuing to work across Europe.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIn Africa, we didn\u2019t have a specific style,&#8221; Black told ROH in the press release today. &#8220;At a young age, I traveled to the UK to learn the British style and combined that with lucha and some strong style, creating my own hybrid style, which is what everyone these days seem to follow.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37598\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37598\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-37598\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/02\/justin-gabriel-1475521013-800-e1549389829386.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"373\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37598\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2008, PJ Black became the first South African to sign with the WWE and began with their then-developmental system, <strong>Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW)<\/strong>, where he wrestled as <strong>Justin Angel<\/strong> (after initially wrestling as both PJ Black and his real name, Paul Lloyd). He won go on to win the FCW Tag Team titles with <strong>Kris Logan<\/strong> (now known as <strong>Brian Cage<\/strong> of IMPACT Wrestling) and would hold the FCW Heavyweight Championship for 175 days, before debuting on WWE television as part of the NXT reality show that preceded NXT as a it&#8217;s own brand.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37602\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37602\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-37602\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/02\/DjeDlkoVsAAzZoJ-e1549390189139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37602\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PJ Black &amp; Brian Cage as FCW Tag Team Champs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On June 7, 2010, now known as <strong>Justin Gabriel<\/strong>, he joined the rest of the NXT reality show&#8217;s cast as the <strong>Nexus<\/strong>, viciously taking down<strong> John Cena<\/strong> and <strong>CM Punk<\/strong>.As Justin Gabriel, he would see great success in the first year of the Nexus storyline, winning the WWE Tag Team Champions three times with <strong>Heath Slater.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Nexus interrupt the main event and reap destruction: Raw, June 7, 2010\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vVVtqoqzgNw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But for the next few years, Gabriel would see his stock diminish in the WWE Universe, and in 2015, he departed the company. It was late last fall when he would make his Ring of Honor at <em><strong>ROH Survival of the Fittest<\/strong><\/em> in November. He appeared at the January TV tapings in Atlanta and faced Bandido at <em><strong>ROH Honor Reigns Supreme<\/strong><\/em> the same month, and now it appears that Black has decided to make ROH his new US television home.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m here to bring back honor, grace, style, athleticism, sportsmanship and entertainment to Ring of Honor,\u201d he told ROH in the press release today. \u201cSometimes I\u2019m a bit fast for mass appeal, but I\u2019m a team player as long as everyone follows my lead.
