BodySlam.net reached out to several sources shortly after who seemed to give them indications that the request was filed on Monday. Shortly after his tweet, Sapp published his own report on the subject saying that it may not actually be a request for release but that he “was told “has reason to be very fearful that The Revival are done or finishing up with the company” after a situation unfolded at WWE Raw.”

If this report ends up being true, it would hardly be found surprising considering how The Revival’s run on Raw has fared since moving over from NXT. In NXT, they were widely regarded as one of the best tag teams in the industry, having instant classics with the likes of American Alpha (Chad Gable & Jason Jordan) and #DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa). But their run on the Red Brand has been highly forgettable. While the first year was marred by lengthy injuries to both members, they’ve been stuck in a rather uninspired feud with Lucha House Party for the past few months, with very little progress towards becoming real challengers for the Raw Tag Team titles.

It’s been no secret the mutual admiration between The Revival and their online rivals, The Young Bucks, who famously poked fun at the Revival suggesting that their #FTR (Forever The Revival) hashtag actually meant “F*ck the Revival” throughout episodes of their Being The Elite YouTube show. Back in early December, when presumably the Bucks were ironing out the details of what is now known as All Elite Wrestling, Dash Wilder sent out a tweet about facing the Bucks.

https://twitter.com/DashWilderWWE/status/1069792017528557568

The Bucks tweeted the next day the same response.

https://twitter.com/MattJackson13/status/1069775644261679105

The Revival’s Scott Dawson responded quickly, with a clock emoji that implied it was only a matter of time.

https://twitter.com/ScottDawsonWWE/status/1069800074862125056

At the time, many began to think that perhaps the Bucks were actually heading to the WWE as free agents, but since then, a little thing called AEW popped up and clearly, the Bucks are not heading to Stamford. If these reports turn out to be true, and The Revival is set to depart the WWE, it’s only a matter of time before one of the most heavily anticipated tag team feuds of the past few years becomes a reality. But in an AEW ring, not a WWE one. In an interesting tidbit of info, it appears that Dash Wilder (real name Daniel Wheeler) owns the trademark for #FTR, their signature hashtag. So while they couldn’t use The Revival elsewhere, they could reuse the hashtag as part of their marketing.

Free The Revival pic.twitter.com/EwKjl0Lzln

— AEW Enjoyer (@SoDuTw) January 16, 2019

Reports are still early, but BodySlam.net is reporting that following their match on Monday Night Raw this week, the two members of The Revival, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, have requested their release from the company.
