{"id":35498,"date":"2019-01-15T15:26:13","date_gmt":"2019-01-15T20:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/?p=35498"},"modified":"2019-01-15T15:26:13","modified_gmt":"2019-01-15T20:26:13","slug":"wwe-womens-tag-team-titles-what-we-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2019\/01\/15\/wwe-womens-tag-team-titles-what-we-know\/","title":{"rendered":"WWE Women&#8217;s Tag Team Titles: What We Know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night on <em><strong>Monday Night Raw<\/strong><\/em>, <strong>Alexa Bliss<\/strong> gave us our first look at the brand new WWE Women&#8217;s Tag Team titles that had been <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/12\/24\/breaking-vince-mcmahon-announces-womens-tag-team-titles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">previously announced by <strong>Vince McMahon<\/strong> over the holidays.<\/a>\u00a0The titles will be cross-brand, encompassing the women of both <em>Raw<\/em> and <em><strong>SmackDown<\/strong><\/em>, and the inaugural titles will be decided in a 6-team Elimination Chamber match, featuring three tag teams from <em>Raw<\/em> and three from <em>SmackDown<\/em>, at the <em><strong>Elimination Chamber<\/strong><\/em> PPV on February 17 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WWE Women\u2019s Tag Team Championships revealed: Raw, Jan. 14, 2019\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_h5q7sEH-zk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women&#8217;s Tag Team Titles: Who Will Compete<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We know the where and when, but we still don&#8217;t know the who &#8211; as in who will be competing for these tag team titles. But over the past six months, the WWE has been slowly building duo alliances on each brand, creating chemistry and story, so that now we have several women&#8217;s tag teams comfortably set up to contest these titles, <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/12\/24\/breaking-vince-mcmahon-announces-womens-tag-team-titles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that haven&#8217;t been used in the WWE since they were deactivated in 1989<\/a>. The two have worked almost exclusively tag team matches the past several months and have made it very clear that they would love to be the new tag team champions for the women&#8217;s division.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Raw: Nia Jax &amp; Tamina<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35502\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35502\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35502\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/Nia-Jax-Tamina-WWE-Raw-e1547582528192.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35502\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Back in November, <strong>Nia Jax<\/strong> turned heel once again and <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/11\/06\/nia-jax-tamina-form-new-divas-of-doom-as-womens-tag-title-rumors-heat-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">formed a family connection with her cousin <strong>Tamina Snuka<\/strong><\/a>. Since then, the duo has become a Divas of Doom of sorts, using their size and strength to wreak havoc in the women&#8217;s division. With the titles now in play, it really feels they were assembled to become a part of the new tag team division.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Raw: Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan &amp; Liv Morgan)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35503\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35503\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35503\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/RIOTT_11282017jg_0005-27bafd4815922eb727b4d50b5038bee2-e1547582596981.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35503\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the only true women&#8217;s stables in the WWE Universe, they&#8217;re a perfect fit to hold the belts, and could even defend it under Freebird rules with any combination of the three women. Ruby feels like more of the singles star (as of now), so she could assist Logan and Morgan to become Tag Team Champions while she continues to pursue a Women&#8217;s Championship of her own.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Raw: The Bella Twins (Nikki &amp; Brie Bella)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35504\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35504\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35504\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/bella-twins-696x392-e1547582787659.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35504\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Although we haven&#8217;t seen the <strong>Bella Twins<\/strong> since their program with <strong>Ronda Rousey<\/strong> ended in early November of last year, there is a new season of <em><strong>Total Bellas<\/strong><\/em> just arrived, so the WWE could bring the two back simply to boost some publicity for the &#8220;historic&#8221; Elimination Chamber match.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Raw: Mickie James &amp; Alicia Fox<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35505\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/8aa03281a0e54ebcda1c823650d8c81d-e1547582937682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"><\/p>\n<p>Since Alexa Bliss has been off for concussion-related injuries since October, her stable grew to include <strong>Alicia Fox<\/strong> alongside <strong>Mickie James<\/strong>. The two have become frequent tag team partners now, while Alexa directs traffic from the ring. With Alexa most likely going to be pursuing the Raw Women&#8217;s Championship upon her clearance back to the ring, she would take great joy in directing her two minions to WWE Women&#8217;s Tag Team gold to have all the bling in her stable.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Raw: Natalya &amp; Ember Moon<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35506\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35506\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35506\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/d9a1da201e225b7888d23cd224ff0a32-e1547583074404.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"470\" height=\"500\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35506\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The biggest longshot of the Raw squad, <strong>Natalya<\/strong> and <strong>Ember Moon<\/strong> have never fully been a proper tandem, but the veteran and the newcomer have paired up on multiple occasions over the past year on Raw. If anything, it may be a way to make Ember Moon more relevant until the Women&#8217;s Championship scene calms down from the Ronda-Becky-Charlotte drama.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SmackDown: The Iiconics\u00a0(Peyton Royce &amp; Billie Kay)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35507\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35507\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35507\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/smackdown-e1547583203562.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"369\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35507\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>The Iiconics<\/strong> seem to be a given for the SmackDown side, as the duo has been the only true tag team on the Blue Brand since their debut. While they haven&#8217;t been as utilized on SmackDown as they were in NXT, people often forget that both were outstanding indie wrestlers in the Australian and US indie scene prior to joining NXT. The new tag division could be just the platform they need to finally shine.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SmackDown: Naomi &amp; Lana<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35508\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35508\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35508\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-15-at-3.15.02-PM-e1547583430213.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"379\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35508\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Chris Spirito \/ twitter.com\/BigChrisSpirito<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the newer pairings on SmackDown, for months it seemed like <strong>Naomi<\/strong> and <strong>Asuka<\/strong> were going to be a Blue Brand representative when the tag belts were unveiled. Now that Asuka is the SmackDown Women&#8217;s Champion, Noami has found a new ally in <strong>Lana<\/strong>, and the two have been actively feuding in another tag team battle against <strong>Mandy Rose<\/strong> and <strong>Sonya Deville<\/strong>. They&#8217;re on their own now, but they&#8217;ve become a solid unit, particularly the increasingly improving Sonya Deville. They&#8217;ve teased breaking up a few times the past few months, so they&#8217;re longevity is now in question though.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SmackDown: Carmella &amp; R-Truth<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35510\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35510\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35510\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/43040009_10156123777231443_4989828953645514752_n-e1547583706346.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35510\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Considering <strong>R-Truth<\/strong>&#8216;s penchant for not really understanding the rules very well, there&#8217;s a very good chance he finds a way to get himself and <strong>Carmella<\/strong> into that match. Just kidding, WWE would never stoop to that level. Would they?
