{"id":34166,"date":"2019-01-21T10:55:16","date_gmt":"2019-01-21T15:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/?p=34166"},"modified":"2022-01-04T17:22:31","modified_gmt":"2022-01-04T22:22:31","slug":"preview-smash-wrestling-any-given-sunday-7-1-27-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2019\/01\/21\/preview-smash-wrestling-any-given-sunday-7-1-27-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Preview: SMASH Wrestling Any Given Sunday 7 (1\/27\/19)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Any Given Sunday<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0events have, in recent years, come to be known as the first major event of the new year for <strong>Smash Wrestling<\/strong>.\u00a0 Last year, we saw <strong>Vanessa Kraven<\/strong> interfere in a World title match that saw <strong>Frankie TM<\/strong> defeat <strong>Tyson Dux<\/strong>, and we saw the first ever Smash Tag Team Champions crowned, as the <strong>Well Oiled Machines<\/strong> defeated <strong>Tabernak De Team<\/strong> in what was an early Match of The Year Candidate.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Any Given Sunday is the seventh installment of the event, which in previous years has seen <strong>AJ Styles<\/strong>,<strong> Johnny Gargano<\/strong>,<strong> Chris Hero<\/strong>,<strong> Matt Cross<\/strong>,<strong> Candice LeRae<\/strong>, and many more notable names compete.\u00a0 <em><strong>Any Given Sunday 7<\/strong> <\/em>will be taped for the <strong>Fight Network<\/strong> and will be broadcast over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Puf vs. John Greed<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36001\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36001\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36001\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/DvDxyHwUUAA-vds-e1548043309544.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Smash Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At <em><strong>In Your Dreams<\/strong><\/em> on December 16, <strong>Puf<\/strong> was the victim of a <strong>John Greed<\/strong> blindside attack.\u00a0 At <em>Any Given Sunday,<\/em>\u00a0he has been given the chance to get a measure of revenge.\u00a0 On the other side, John Greed is fresh off a loss in a Smash World title opportunity\u00a0and is looking to get back on the winning track.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Fight or Flight (Gabriel Fuerza &amp; Vaughn Vertigo) vs. KILL\/SCREEN (Shane Sabre &amp; Mark Wheeler) vs. Well Oiled Machines (Pepper Parks &amp; Mike Rollins)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36003\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36003\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36003\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/Dw90KYZW0AAxnP8-e1548043328845.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36003\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Smash Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Last year, the <strong>Well Oiled Machines<\/strong> were fighting to be crowned the first ever Smash Wrestling Tag Team Champions.\u00a0 This year, they are fighting to get back into the title hunt picture.\u00a0 Their path to another shot at the tag team titles sees them in this triple threat match versus the returning <strong>Fight or Flight<\/strong> and the Scotty O&#8217;Shea followers <strong>Kill\/Screen,<\/strong>\u00a0who are both fighting to get their own names into the tag title picture.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Matt Cross vs. Facade vs. Rey Horus<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36002\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36002\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36002\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/Dw7C3qJWkAEGnL8-e1548043448572.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36002\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Smash Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Rey Horus<\/strong> makes his Smash wrestling debut in this match and has a tall order in front of him if he wants to be victorious.\u00a0 Standing across\u00a0from him in the ring will be non-other than former Smash Wrestling champion <strong>Matt Cross<\/strong> and another Smash Wrestling veteran in <strong>Facade<\/strong>.\u00a0 In can be predicted with almost certainty that this match will be a fast-paced, hard-hitting\u00a0affair, as all three of the competitors hold nothing back in their attempts to become victorious.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Smash Tag Team Championship: The Pillars (Tyson Dux &amp; Brent Banks) (c) vs. Halal Beefcake (Idris Abraham &amp; Joe Coleman)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36006\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36006\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36006\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/DxDiRGcXgAAP8_r-e1548043587961.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36006\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Smash Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>The Pillars<\/strong> look to keep their hot streak from 2018 rolling.\u00a0 They will have to get through the duo of <strong>Joe Coleman<\/strong> and <strong>Idris Abraham<\/strong> first, as they face <strong>Halal Beefcake<\/strong> in their first Tag Title defense of 2019.\u00a0 Halal Beefcake recently aligned themselves with <strong>Kevin Bennett<\/strong> to form the new <strong>Kevin Bennett<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Experience<\/strong>.\u00a0 At <em><strong>Heavy is The Head<\/strong><\/em> in Kitchener, we saw all four combatants in singles competition against each other but at <em>Any Given Sunday<\/em> only one pinfall will matter, and the winner will be champions.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Sebastian Suave vs. Jay Freddie<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36004\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36004\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36004\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/Dwre5QrVYAAlb3i-e1548043641339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Smash Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Originally this was to be the fourth match in a best of five between <strong>Sebastian Suave<\/strong> and <strong>Daniel Garcia<\/strong>.\u00a0 Suave was leading the series two matches to one, but now <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2019\/01\/06\/buffalo-brothers-in-car-accident-two-with-serious-injuries\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">due to a bad car accident, Garcia is unable to wrestle<\/a>.\u00a0 Garcia has personally picked US indie veteran\u00a0<strong>Jay Freddie<\/strong> to replace him in the match, which will also be Freddie&#8217;s Smash debut.\u00a0 He will need to topple one of the Pillars if he expects to leave Any Given Sunday victorious.\u00a0 Suave, on the other hand, has seen his stock soar in recent months in Ontario and Quebec, winning gold in both provinces.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Smash Championship: Tarik (c) vs. Carter Mason<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36007\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36007\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36007\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/DxKL7pBUwAAbgvs-e1548043742350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36007\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Smash Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Fresh off his title defense in Kitchener against <strong>John Greed<\/strong> and <strong>Matt Cross,\u00a0<\/strong>Tarik finds himself having to immediately\u00a0refocus on a surging <strong>Carter Mason<\/strong> as his next challenger.\u00a0 Mason finds himself with a title opportunity as a type of reward from Smash management.\u00a0 Mason filled at the last moment on several events and as such has earned the shot at Tarik, previously belonging to <strong>Kevin Bennett<\/strong>.\u00a0 Due to the Buffalo Brothers&#8217;
