Today at Pro Wrestling WAVE<\/strong>‘s Phase 1 Final at the legendary Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan,\u00a0joshi<\/em><\/a> veteran Misaki Ohata<\/strong> officially retired from pro wrestling following a 12-year career in the sport. In her final match, she defeated former tag partner\u00a0Ryo Mizunami<\/strong> for the Regina Di WAVE Championship for her third and final time and immediately vacated the title.<\/p>\n

Misaki Ohata began wrestling in 2006, a student of former All Japan Women’s (AJW)<\/strong> Champion Mariko Yoshida<\/strong> and Japanese Women Pro Wrestling (JWP)\/PURE-J<\/strong> veteran Leon<\/strong>. She originally began as a star with the promotion IBUKI<\/strong>, before freelancing with such promotions as Sendai Girls, OZ Academy<\/strong> and Ice Ribbon<\/strong>. In 2007, she would also start working with the promotion she would become most synonymous with, Pro Wrestling WAVE.<\/p>\n

In 2010, she would travel to the US and begin working for SHIMMER<\/strong> as well, where she engaged in battles with Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa<\/strong>, and Mercedes Martinez<\/strong>. The following year, she returned in a team with 2018 Mae Young Classic standout\u00a0Hiroyo Matsumoto<\/strong> to capture the SHIMMER Tag Team titles.<\/p>\n

But her real bread and butter would remain her work in the\u00a0joshi\u00a0<\/em>scene of Japan, where she was a 3x champion in Pro Wrestling WAVE, as well as a JWP Princess of Princesses Champion and JWP Junior Champion. She was also a tag team specialist, capturing the WAVE Tag Team titles on three occasions with three partners (Ryo Mizunami, Mio Shirai<\/strong> and Tsukasa Fujimoto<\/strong>). With Ryo, she also captured the Ice Ribbon Tag Team titles as well.<\/p>\n
