Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This edition looks at 21-year old Puerto Rican sensation Salina de la Renta, an emerging indie star whose stock has exploded since joining the cast of Major League Wrestling (MLW).

Since Major League Wrestling (MLW) made it’s return as a promotion last year after a lengthy hiatus, it’s been gathering momentum thanks in part to a stellar cast of some of the top indie stars in the world, such as Pentagon Jr., Fenix, Sami Callihan, Shane Strickland and The New Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart, Davey Boy Smith Jr., and Brian Pillman Jr.). But arguably the promotions biggest breakout star of 2018 has been the founder of Promociones Dorado, 21-year old Salina de la Renta, who has made it her mission in MLW to bring in the very best Latino superstars to take control of MLW. From guiding The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) to the MLW Tag Team titles and now representing the MLW Heavyweight Champion Low Ki, Salina is setting a gold standard in MLW and reaping the rewards.

Salina de la Renta was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico and moved to the US a few years ago to study film. It was during her film studies that she was first properly introduced to wrestling. For a school project she had to study a reality television show and de la Renta chose WWE’s Total Divas. “As soon as I saw them in the ring I thought, “Oh my God! I feel like I’m meant to do that!”, she told ProWrestling.com this past June. “It just wouldn’t leave my mind. I would eat and do different things and always thinking, “What if I’m meant to be a wrestler?” She signed up with Team Vision Dojo, where she was trained by indie veteran Santana Garrett, and got her start with I Believe In Wrestling (BELIEVE) in late 2016 as Mila Naniki.

Since then, she’s been a regular performer with American Combat Wrestling (ACW), changing her name to Salina de la Renta in the summer of 2017 when she made her debut at MLW Never Say Never when she represented Sammy Guevara. Since then, she’s brought a steady flow of Latino wrestlers to MLW, such as Garza Jr., Ricky Martinez (aka Maxx Stardom), The Lucha Brothers, El Hijo de LA Park, LA Park and Low Ki – although The Lucha Brothers recently tore up their contracts with her and have gone on their own, and she fired Sammy Guevara several months back.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9TIgMRquo4

But while she hasn’t wrestled yet for MLW, she continues to do so on the indies. In October of last year, she captured the ACW Women’s Championship and held it for 287 days. She’s also worked with Oklahoma’s World Class Revolution (WCR) and other Florida indies like Championship Wrestling Entertainment (CWE), Pro Wrestling 2.0 and Fight The World (FTW) Wrestling. But MLW is slowly adding titles back into the picture, first re-debuting their World Heavyweight title this past April, followed in July with their Tag Team titles, as well as their Middleweight title. It’s not hard to imagine MLW bringing in a Women’s title, which you can bet will be another piece of gold that Salina will be looking to add to her trophy case. You can catch Salina de la Renta every Friday night on MLW Fusion on BeIN TV (or on MLW’s YouTube channel on Saturdays).

Catch Up on Previous Indie Watch Articles!

Indie Watch: Sheldon Jean (Canada), October 5, 2018

Indie Watch: King Khash (USA/Persia), September 25, 2018

Indie Watch: Martina ‘The Session Moth’ (Ireland), September 18, 2018

Indie Watch: Zachary Wentz (USA), September 9, 2018

Indie Watch: Scotty Davis (Ireland), September 4, 2018

Indie Watch: SCHAFF (USA), August 21, 2018

Indie Watch: Bandido (Mexico), August 15, 2018

Indie Watch: Aiden Prince (Canada), August 7, 2018

Indie Watch: “The Business” Slex (Australia), May 9, 2018

Indie Watch: Robbie Eagles (Australia), May 1, 2018

Indie Watch: Jordynne Grace (USA), April 27, 2018

Indie Watch: D.L.
