R.I.P. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HSoXvEITWh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/HSoXvEITWh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; brett lauderdale (@Lauderdale11) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Lauderdale11\/status\/1032298327629545473?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 22, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Trained by the Malenko family (Boris, Dean &amp; Joe), Chris Champion made his mark initially with <strong>Championship Wrestling From Florida (CWF)<\/strong>, where he partnered with <strong>Sean Royal<\/strong> in the tag team <strong>The New Breed<\/strong>. They two were &#8220;time travellers&#8221; from the year 2002 and had been sent back in time to compete for CWF. They frequently referred to <strong>Dusty Rhodes<\/strong> as &#8220;Mr. President&#8221;, as in 2000, he was apparently elected to the highest office in the US. The tandem also worked other territories, including Mid South and <strong>Continental Championship Wrestling (CWA)<\/strong> in Memphis. They held the CWF\/NWA Florida Tag Team titles one time, with a lengthy feud with the <strong>Southern Boys<\/strong> (Steve Armstrong &amp; Tracey Smothers). During his time in CWF, he also helped train other wrestlers, including <strong>Lex Luger<\/strong> and <strong>Ron Simmons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=s2KSnbXjS2Q<\/p>\n<p>In 1988, Champion moved to <strong>Jim Crockett Promotions<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Mid Atlantic<\/strong> territory as a singles wrestler, competing against the likes of <strong>Larry Zybysko, Ron Simmons, Ron Garvin<\/strong> and others, but his stay was brief. In 1989, he headed back to CWA, where he formed a new tag team with his real life brother, <strong>Mark Starr<\/strong>, called <strong>Wildside<\/strong>. Together, Wildside had feuds with the likes of <strong>Rock N&#8217; Roll Express\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong>Midnight Express<\/strong>, capturing the CWA Tag Team Championship in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L4sX7LBGliw<\/p>\n<p>When CWA transitioned into the <strong>United States Wrestling Association (USWA)<\/strong>, Champion stuck around and became more of a singles wrestler again, facing the likes of <strong>Doug Gilbert, Dirty White Boy<\/strong> and a young <strong>Mike Awesome<\/strong>. He also briefly worked under the guise of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, known as <strong>Cowabunga<\/strong>, working the US and Japan with <strong>Frontier Martial-arts Wrestling (FMW)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kowabunga vs Keith Eric\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gRCl6ImfHtQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In 1993, Champion was hired by <strong>World Championship Wrestling (WCW)<\/strong>, where he was given an Asian gimmick, a character known as <strong>Yoshi Kwan<\/strong>, and managed by <strong>Harley Race<\/strong>. He had a lengthy feud with <strong>Cactus Jack<\/strong>, but his WCW run only lasted a few months, before he was back on the US independents.
