The event quickly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.njpw1972.com\/tornament\/22417\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sold out<\/a> of pre-event seating tickets, already making the show a financial success &#8212; especially with same day standing room tickets also expected to sell out.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s likely that both <strong>Chris Jericho<\/strong> and<strong> Rey Mysterio Jr.<\/strong> will play a role at the upcoming G1 Special show, however, the extent of those roles will be determined by what goes down at <em><strong>Dominion<\/strong><\/em>. It&#8217;s not inconceivable for <strong>Jericho<\/strong> to defeat <strong>Tetsuya Naito<\/strong> for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship on June 9th, which could draw up excitement among North American fans of NJPW.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chris Jericho with a blistering video takedown of Tetsuya Naito!\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JZvLQtC9j-U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There are several outcomes which could result in <strong>Mysterio<\/strong> holding the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship or challenge for it in San Francisco. Although, it&#8217;s more likely that we see him square off against\u00a0<strong>Jushin\u00a0Thunder Liger<\/strong> &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/02\/10\/huge-rematch-added-njpw-strong-style-evolved\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">revisiting the match-up<\/a> that was scheduled for <em><strong>Strong Style Evolved<\/strong><\/em> earlier in the year, yet was canceled due to a <strong>Mysterio<\/strong> injury.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Young Bucks<\/strong> (Matt &amp; Nick Jackson) could walk into San Francisco as the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions if they are able to keep <strong>EVIL<\/strong>\u00a0&amp; <strong>SANADA<\/strong>\u00a0from having a successful defense of the championships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kenny Omega<\/strong> could be the IWGP Heavyweight Champion if he can put an end to the legendary reign of <strong>Kazuchika Okada<\/strong>. The fourth singles match between the two is a 2\/3 falls match without a time limit, with the result will play an integral part of the G1 Special show.<\/p>\n<p>There is no doubting that the first United States appearance for Kenny Omega as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion would garner a great deal of attention from NJPW fans, those who have heard of the product, and perhaps some who are critical of what the promotion has to offer.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19272\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19272\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19272\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/05\/DcWc4PBW4AApHfh-696x392-1-e1527126874515.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19272\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: NJPW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;For <strong>Okada<\/strong>, this is a match for his pride. For me, it\u2019s the opportunity of a lifetime. I\u2019m fortunate enough to be in a position again where I can say this is the biggest match of my career,&#8221; Omega <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/wrestling\/2018\/05\/14\/kenny-omega-new-japan-show-ceo-gaming\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stated in a comment to Sports Illustrated<\/a>. Later in the interview, he would also comment on the <em><strong>Strong Style Evolved<\/strong><\/em> card from earlier this year, &#8220;New Japan Pro Wrestling is my company, but I\u2019ll be the first to admit we did not come with a powerhouse card [to <em><strong>Strong Style Evolved<\/strong><\/em>],&#8221; when commenting on the Golden Lovers (Omega &amp; Kota Ibushi) match against the Young Bucks.<\/p>\n<p>NJPW officials are aware of the need to put together a more &#8216;Tour Headlining Event&#8217; than a &#8216;Road To&#8217; card to fill the Cow Palace in San Francisco. (Photo: Cow Palace)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If <em><strong>Dominion<\/strong><\/em> is successful in pushing gate drawing storylines, NJPW will not have a problem in selling the rest of the available tickets, especially if they decide to unveil several surprises for the G1 special.
