{"id":17480,"date":"2018-04-18T19:56:05","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T23:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/?p=17480"},"modified":"2018-04-18T19:56:05","modified_gmt":"2018-04-18T23:56:05","slug":"superstar-shakeup-raw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2018\/04\/18\/superstar-shakeup-raw\/","title":{"rendered":"Superstar Shakeup Fallout: The RAW Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Superstar Shakeup was upon us again as the WWE gets to mix up the two rosters.\u00a0 The common feeling among fans is that\u00a0<strong>SmackDown Live (SDL)\u00a0<\/strong>soundly defeated\u00a0<strong>RAW<\/strong>.\u00a0 When one looks at the names drafted it&#8217;s easy to see why the popular opinion is that the Blue Brand is the current &#8220;A&#8221; show.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a look at how RAW faired and how the landscape looks following the Superstar Shakeup this week.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Main Event:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>(Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You heard it right&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/KevinOwens?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#KevinOwens<\/a> is BACK on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RAW?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#RAW<\/a>! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SuperstarShakeup?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#SuperstarShakeup<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bHtJrHwTBD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/bHtJrHwTBD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; WWE (@WWE) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WWE\/status\/986048667651067906?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 17, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Despite losing\u00a0<strong>Jeff Hardy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Samoa Joe\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Big Cass\u00a0<\/strong>to SDL Raw kept it&#8217;s main event scene together.\u00a0 They still have\u00a0<strong>Universal Champion<\/strong> Brock Lesnar, current era\u00a0<strong>John Cena\u00a0<\/strong>Roman Reigns as well as the workhorse pair of Rollins and Balor.\u00a0 A big keep is the insanely popular BRAUUUUUUN\u00a0 who is still a big star for Raw.\u00a0 The addition of KO is vital.\u00a0 With Miz gone the main event scene lacked a really good talker and a good heel.\u00a0 Owens fills that gap well, is better in the ring and most importantly has great chemistry with the Big Dawg.\u00a0 While Raw lost some talent they have kept an amazing main event scene together.\u00a0 The fresh matchups between Owens and each individual are exciting enough.\u00a0 As is the continued interaction between Balor and Rollins. Should Reigns be crowned champion in Saudi Arabia he has no lack of strong challengers in the Raw main event scene.<\/p>\n<p>From the looks of it, Raw will continue to have strong main event feuds and continue the streak of good TV matches.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Upper Midcard:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>(Baron Corbin, Big Show, Elias, Jinder Mahal, Kane, Bobby Roode, Sami Zayn)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here&#39;s to making Monday Night <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RAW?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#RAW<\/a> GLORIOUS, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/REALBobbyRoode?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@RealBobbyRoode<\/a>! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SuperstarShakeup?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#SuperstarShakeup<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UacxW9SPg5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/UacxW9SPg5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; WWE (@WWE) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WWE\/status\/986073141775609861?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 17, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Not everyone can be a main eventer.\u00a0 Sometimes a main event guy needs a winnable feud to keep them occupied or to heat them back up.\u00a0 What we also have here is potential main eventer&#8217;s for B PPV&#8217;s or future\u00a0<strong>Intercontinental Champion<\/strong>.\u00a0 For there role, there is a nice mix here.\u00a0 The veterans Kane and Big Show are established enough that losing does not hurt them too much.\u00a0 They can easily win the IC title or challenge the Universal champion or they can work with the midcarders to put on good matches.\u00a0 Mahal is the big heel here.\u00a0 Put anyone up against him and you instantly get the fans to cheer his opponent.\u00a0 The pivotal member here is Sami Zayn.\u00a0 Zayn is the workhorse who always get&#8217;s a reaction, he can put on good matches with anyone in the Upper card or the main event scene and believably beat anyone or lose to anyone.\u00a0 That, coupled with the KO link and the partnership\/potential rivalry could be a big story for Raw.\u00a0 To round out the upper midcard we have rising stars Baron Corbin and Elias.\u00a0 Corbin was always floating around the title picture in Smackdown and is someone the company is high on.\u00a0 Elias is another big keep for Raw.\u00a0 His concerts always manage to get a reaction and prove highly entertaining, he is another potential big star and we should see him challenge for and maybe win the IC title within the next year.\u00a0 The last member is the GLORIOUS former US and\u00a0<strong>NXT Champion\u00a0<\/strong>Bobby Roode. The last few months have not treated the glorious one well as he lost his US title at<strong> Fastlane<\/strong> before failing to reclaim it at\u00a0<strong>WrestleMania.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Roode is a veteran of the business and is one of the cleanest and most professional workers the WWE has and if given promo time coupled with a heel turn we could see him become a highlight of Monday Night Raw<\/p>\n<p>Raw&#8217;s upper midcard looks a little worse for wear than last year but the potential is there for it to do it&#8217;s job and get some midcarders over or work well in entertaining matches or feuds with the main eventers.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>205 Live:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The cruiserweight division offers something unique to Raw.\u00a0 With <strong>Cedric Alexander<\/strong> leading the way as champion and a talented roster to boot.\u00a0 The 205 Live show has been in star building mode with\u00a0<strong>Triple H\u00a0<\/strong>taking the reigns recently.\u00a0 It awaits to be seen if the Cruisers get to showcase their new talents on the main roster<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women&#8217;s Division:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RAW?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#RAW<\/a> Women&#39;s division has officially been put on notice&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to Monday nights, @RubyRiottWWE <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YaOnlyLivvOnce?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@YaOnlyLivvOnce<\/a> &amp; Drew McIntyre\u00a0<\/strong>will help as the main heel tag team who can put on good matches and currently the Woke team of\u00a0<strong>Matt Hardy\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Bray Wyatt\u00a0<\/strong>are the best thing in the division.\u00a0 The only problem is outside those two teams you only have\u00a0<strong>The Revival, Titus Worldwide<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>The Ascension\u00a0<\/strong>three teams that lose far more than they win or in the ascensions case haven&#8217;t been seen in months.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Breezeango\u00a0<\/strong>will provide some entertaining moments but won&#8217;t win the titles which is the same for the duo of\u00a0<strong>Rhyno\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Heath Slater<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Rest:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Raw is not lacking in manpower.\u00a0 With 3 hours of time to fill they need to have competent and entertaining midcarders and jobbers etc.\u00a0 This is where\u00a0<strong>Goldust\u00a0<\/strong>is vital, the veteran can do anything and does it well.\u00a0 There is a chance to shine for the likes of\u00a0<strong>Mike Kanellis\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Zack Ryder\u00a0<\/strong>who will almost surely get more TV time than they did on SDL.\u00a0 There are a few guys to look out for who will aim to stand out from the pack and move up the card like\u00a0<strong>Mojo Rawley <\/strong>and<strong> Chad Gable.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Raw needs the deeper roster due to the extra hour of time.\u00a0 Because of that, they need more bodies.\u00a0 The midcard will see more action than on SDL and the guys mentioned here will be on TV a lot over the next year.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Newbies:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">One ember sparks a \ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>@WWEEmberMoon is LIVE on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RAW?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#RAW<\/a>! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CIIqZspN3Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/CIIqZspN3Q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Rezar)\u00a0<\/strong>the monstrous duo add to the weak tag division.\u00a0 In NXT, fans became used to seeing the two monstrous men ransack opponents.\u00a0 A heel run as champions or a chase as the badass tag team, will be a treat to see for tag fans.\u00a0 The\u00a0 biggest return from the night after Mania was\u00a0<strong>Bobby Lashley<\/strong>.\u00a0 The MMA fighter became one of the best wrestlers in the US during his run as Impact World champion.\u00a0 A return was inevitable as his in ring ability improved by leaps and bounds as did his character work.\u00a0 Lashley will slot right back into the Upper Midcard or Main Event scene as fans await the dream Brock Lesnar match.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>No Way Jose\u00a0<\/strong>was custom made for the main roster.\u00a0 The partying character works a treat with live crowds and was made for the big arena&#8217;s and house shows.\u00a0 Jose will be a valuable addition to the midcard for Raw.\u00a0 The final call up is\u00a0<strong>Ember Moon\u00a0<\/strong>the former\u00a0<strong>NXT Women&#8217;s Champion\u00a0<\/strong>is one of the best women&#8217;s wrestlers in the WWE.\u00a0 Her cool character and entrance theme help make title matches feel bigger.\u00a0 Her only issue is that in NXT her character work and promos left a lot to be desired.\u00a0 That isn&#8217;t to say she will fail but she needs to improve in some areas and mainly focus on her ring work at the moment as that is her biggest strength.\u00a0 Along with the sick\u00a0<strong>Eclipse\u00a0<\/strong>finisher.\u00a0 She strengthens the Raw women&#8217;s division and helps make it that bit deeper than it was last year.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Overall Analysis:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Raw roster lost some great talent in the Shakeup but they managed to keep their core guys.\u00a0 The addition of Kami and Lashley&#8217;s comeback have added to the top of the card.\u00a0 Where Raw really looks strong is the mid to lower card.\u00a0 Between the 205 Live guys and the talented midcarders they will not have nearly as much trouble filling time as I predict SDL will.\u00a0 The tag division is now in limbo until AOP claim their crown.\u00a0 Where Raw will excel this year is the women&#8217;s division.\u00a0 \u00a0It is deeper than ever with a tonne of talented female wrestlers as well as the biggest star in the company in Ronda Rousey.\u00a0 Keep an eye on the Raw women&#8217;s division as I expect this to be a fantastic year for all of the girls involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Superstar Shakeup was upon us again as the WWE gets to mix up the two rosters.\u00a0 The common feeling among fans is that\u00a0SmackDown Live (SDL)\u00a0soundly defeated\u00a0RAW.\u00a0 When one looks at the names drafted it&#8217;s easy to see why the popular opinion is that the Blue Brand is the current &#8220;A&#8221;
