Of course, where Rodriguez goes, Judgment Day follows. After the events of Monday Night Raw, it’s safe to say the new champ definitely got by with a little help from her friends to claim her first singles gold. But more than that, Rodriguez also fought through a mid-match injury to win the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship, certainly proving that despite the interference, La Ruda was more than deserving of her championship moment.

Raquel Rodriguez Overcomes Possible Broken Nose to Win First WWE Singles Title

On a night that saw some stellar in-ring action, the match between Sol Ruca and Raquel Rodriguez was the cream of the crop. The two women engaged in a hard-fought battle that saw both champ and challenger have their close moments. Rodriguez’ power was the story of the match early, as Michael Cole and Corey Graves noted Ruca’s best shot to win was to try to wear down the stronger Rodriguez. However, Ruca definitely came out on fire as well, utilizing some of her speed, high-flying, and inventive offense to limit Rodriguez’ ability to utilize her power advantage. But every time Ruca mounted an offensive flurry, all it took was one boot from Rodriguez to even the odds again.

The tide of the match turned after Ruca took down Rodriguez with a moonsault to the outside, seemingly catching her right on the nose. As Rodriguez pulled up from the mat, it was clear she was busted open. Cole and Graves seemed to suggest it was an injury to her face, later elaborating and suggesting it was a broken or, at the very least, injured nose. Rodriguez fought through the blood and any pain she may have been in even as Ruca began targeting the injured area with a massive running knee to her opponent’s face.

Or at the very least, the commentators suggested as much. That would seem odd for a real injury, but it helped sell the intensity of the match and both women and their desire to win at all costs.

At times in the match, Rodriguez used her bloodied face almost like a warrior’s paint. She taunted the crowd by pointing to the blood and, at one point, made a show of tasting her own blood. Rodriguez and Ruca were fighting in a pretty evenly matched contest until Judgment Day made their presence known.

It’s something Ruca should have expected or anticipated given the group’s history of working in tandem. Roxanne Perez was out first with the distraction of Ruca, followed by Liv Morgan, who came out from the other side of the ring. The numbers advantage allowed Rodriguez the chance to hit a huge boot, which looked like it might have been the end. But Ruca kicked out, causing IYO SKY to arrive to try to even the odds. She went right after Morgan as the two SummerSlam opponents brawled on the outside.

Rodriguez turned her attention to SKY in the match’s closing moments, allowing Ruca to hit a Codebreaker. It seemed like the champ was set to retain in a finishing sequence that all but mirrored their match from a few weeks ago, but Perez stopped Ruca from hitting the Solsnatcher this time. Rodriguez caught Ruca off the distraction and hit the Tejana bomb for the 1-2-3. After the match, the new champ celebrated with her gal pals, adding another title to Judgment Day’s coffers at least for now.

The Last Word

#ANDNEW 🏆@RaquelWWE is the NEW Women's Intercontinental Champion! pic.twitter.com/LnvRe2GiJL

— WWE (@WWE) July 28, 2026

For the majority of the match, the story was of two women determined to do what was needed in the name of championship gold. Rodriguez was a valiant challenger and Ruca showed why WWE put faith in her so early to become a main roster champion. But in the end, this match was always going to be a story about Judgment Day and specifically, Liv Morgan’s machinations to make her best friend a champion. Just not, you know, the world champion. It felt like we were leading up to a Morgan/Rodriguez world title match, but it looks like WWE is delaying that, and possibly the JD breakup for the time being. Which could be for the best.

The focus of Judgment Day has seemingly shifted away from the men and onto three women, all worthy of gold in their own right. WWE has the chance to tell a story of female empowerment and friendship instead of the tired trope of jealousy among peers and this idea that women colleagues can’t be friends. Sure, Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh seemingly aren’t going anywhere, but their Judgment Day story has largely come and gone. In fact, ever since Morgan returned from injury, it was clear Judgment Day was her group, and now, she’s seemingly cemented that with her two top lieutenants by her side.

No challenge too big, no setback too great.
Through blood, sweat, and tears, Raquel Rodriguez is the NEW @WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. #AndNew pic.twitter.com/lPZUEkssh9

— Triple H (@TripleH) July 28, 2026

Eventually, Morgan/Rodriguez or Morgan/Perez or Rodriguez/Perez seems like it will happen, but for now, it’s worth enjoying the ride. As for Rodriguez, yeah, she won the title off interference, but to her defense, most of her title losses came as a result of someone else interfering and costing her. Rodriguez has seen so many opportunities come and go, but tonight, she seized the moment. And if it took a little help, so be it. Now, we’ll just keep our fingers crossed that any injury Rodriguez may have sustained isn’t serious enough to lead to her missing time and needing to be stripped of the title she worked four years to earn.

After parts of four years and countless attempts, Raquel Rodriguez is finally a singles champion in WWE following her victory against Sol Ruca.
