A vignette aired showing said attack, narrated with Lesnar vowing to “end Oba Femi.” Heyman resumed his talking, stating that Femi has “awoken the beast,” but before he could elaborate, Femi’s music hit. Cue the Oba Femi strut. Cornering the Advocate, Femi responded, querying what Heyman thinks Lesnar awoke in him. The Ruler wanted Heyman to be present to witness and tell the story of the end of The Beast, Brock Lesnar. No longer was he fighitng to beat Lesnar, he would be fighting to “kill him.” I think that’s illegal to do.

Penta (c) defeated Ja’Von Evans for the Intercontinental Championship

The champion caught his challenger’s OG Cutter seconds after the bell. Each man sought to trip the other up to a stalemate and did the Penta Walk. Evans ended the fun times with a dropkick and a hurricanrana. Out of his element with a swifter opponent, Penta restrategized by redirecting Evans’s Suicide Dive into the edge of the commentary desk.

Evans spilt Penta over the barricade and into the timekeeper’s area in a pounce. He followed with a Buzaiku Knee + Springboard OG Cutter. Penta replied with a Backstabber. OG Cutter on the apron further tormented the champ, yet he recuperated with a Penta Driver. Penta rejected another OG Cutter with a Superkick and another with a Backstabber. Finishing Evans off with a Mexican Destroyer secured this title retention.

Post-match: Evans yanked his arm away from a sportsmanlike celebration by Penta.

Match Review: A unique defense for Penta; he normally outspeeds his opponents, but against the young and spry Evans, he sweated profusely. Looks like a heel turn is on the horizon.

The Vision enacts the Freebird Rule

A distraught Austin Theory asked Paul Heyman backstage what he should do with the WWE Tag Team Championship. The reason is that Logan Paul was announced to be on the shelf for months due to injury. Heyman suggested defending the title alongside Bron Breakker. Theory vowed to hurt the people who halted Paul’s momentum.

Joe Hendry’s concert ended in a chorus of chair shots

Singing “Can We Fire Logan Paul” for the umpteenth time, Hendry’s lyrics were cut short. The reason? Austin Theory slid in and peppered him with chair shots. Security flocked to him as he was flung into the ring post.

Seth Rollins apologized to Angelo Dawkins

Offering condolences for the Street Profits’ loss to The Vision at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Montez Ford questioned why he was still trying to appeal to them. Rollins and Ford, to Dawkins’s dismay, posited themselves as superior to the other. Despite Dawkins’s frustrated pleas, Ford and Rollins challenged each other to a match later in the evening.

Rey Mysterio narrated a Mask vs Mask video package

Using historic footage from AAA, WWE promoted the upcoming Mask vs Mask Match at AAA’s Noche de Los Grandes. Mysterio highlighted the cultural importance of the stipulation.

Je’Von Evans apologized to Penta

Evans regretted his harsh actions against Penta. Penta assured him it was nothing to worry about. Evans urged that he would be returning to the Intercontinental Championship picture soon. Rey Mysterio approached, suggesting he shrug it off. Penta thanked him and offered the veteran a match for the belt.

Bayley & Lyra Valkyria defeated Judgement Day (Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez)

Perez hurled Valkyria around to start, unwisely in Bayley’s corner. Valkyria and Bayley overwhelmed her, but Perez shot back with an elbow. Rodriquez met the same isolation, where Bayley and Valkyria stomped a mudhole into her on the turnbuckle. The giant rent her opponents flattened with a Flying Crossbody. It was Valkyria’s turn to suffer in the corner with elbows by Rodriguez and a spike onto the top.

Rodriguez and Perez attempted to abuse Valkyria outside, but the Irish wrestler kicked them away. Bayley countered a Pop-Rox with a Bayley-to-Belly Suplex. Liv Morgan tried to distract Valkyria and Bayley, leading to Perez opting for another Pop-Rox. Morgan muttered a quiet order to Dominik Mysterio as she scurried to the back. Mysterio distracted the referee so Rodriguez and Perez could harm the veteran further. He then tossed his belt into the ring. Perez and Bayley played tug-of-war with it until the latter let go to knock Mysterio out. Bayley capped the match off with a roll-up pinfall victory.

Match Review: As far as tag teams go, these women mix well.

Roman Reigns and Adam Pearce discussed Tribal Combat Contract conditions

The Tribal Chief and the Raw General Manager agreed that there should be consequences for losing the Tribal Contract Match. If Jacob Fatu were to lose, he’d have to serve Reigns or be fired.

Memorial Day video package

Cody Rhodes narrated the consequences of war and how it affected American soldiers throughout each battle.

Another package aired after the commercial break, showing the Street Profits and Bayley offering their tribute to the troops.

LA Knight declared his intentions for a King of the Ring victory

Acknowledging he hasn’t been in a WWE ring since WrestleMania, Knight wished the audience a happy Memorial Day. Mentioning the upcoming King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments, he put his future contestants on notice. Recalling his past affiliation with The Usos, he lamented they’d align with a champion he viewed as corrupt.

Jimmy Uso met Knight in the middle of the ring, professing his respect for him. Knight returned the favor. Uso admitted that the past Bloodline shenanigans, which lasted for years, got ugly. Knight appreciated it but asked whether Uso was being honest with him and, more importantly, with himself. Their frustrations boiled over as they raised their voices when Knight mentioned Jacob Fatu, with Uso saying he and Jey Uso would become his business. Knight retorted that people like Jey and Reigns are taking advantage of Jimmy.

Ethan Page and Rusev confronted Adam Pearce and Rey Mysterio

Annoyed that Je’Von Evans and Mysterio had a shot at Penta’s Intercontinental Championship, Page vented that he should be given his rematch. Rusev entered the scene, to which Page informed him that Mysterio was “skipping the line” ahead of him. Irate, Rusev demanded a match. Once Pearce and Mysterio acquiesced to his decree, Rusev declared that he would “Bangaranga” Mysterio, a reference to the Bulgarian hit pop song from Eurovision winner, DARA.

Seth Rollins defeated Montez Ford

Ford cornered Rollins early, yet they met to a standstill a few times over. The Street Profit clotheslined Rollins outside and toppled him with a Suicide Dive. Rollins caught Ford’s aspirations atop the top turnbuckle and drove him down with a Falcon Arrow. A Pedigree dazed Ford, but couldn’t put him down. Ford endured a Buckle Bomb to hurricanrana Rollins into the turnbuckle. The Street Profit leapt over the ring post onto the Visionary. Rollins rolled away from Ford’s 450-Splash to win via a Curb Stomp.

Post-match: Angelo Dawkins awkwardly stumbled in, not to support either party, but because he was brawling with Austin Theory. The Vision member battered him with chair shots and left.

Match Review: Ford continues to be excellent. It’s a missed opportunity to have Ford win on Memorial Day as a veteran. The Curb Stomp makes it nastier in my opinion.

Seth Rollins and Montez Ford resolved their differences

Both men were incensed over Dawkins’s wounds from Theory’s attack. Approaching Adam Pearce, the men requested to get their licks in on The Vision.

Becky Lynch celebrated Sol Ruca’s injury

Bringing up the punched face that propelled her to stardom in 2018, Lynch indicated that Ruca’s injury was her introduction to “The Big Time.”

Rey Mysterio defeated Rusev

Rusev gave Mysterio no opening as he dominated with fists and forearms. The lucha legend wriggled away and unleashed a Mexican Destroyer into the barricade. Rusev responded by swinging him into the barricade head-first. A Seated Senton and Springboard Moonsault rocked the Bulgarian. Converting a Cutter ot a Bulldog, Mysterio was staunchly in control. Rusev regained momentum, spiking the luchador to the mat. Swinging Mysterio into the ropes, Rusev absorbed a 619 and caught Mysterio in an attempt of another one. Mysterio regained composure, and in a flash, he won by roll-up.

Post-match: Rusev assaulted Mysterio, with the assistance of Ethan Page. Dragon Lee sprinted to Mysterio’s aid.

Match Review: Sadly, Rusev’s day has long gone. He feels every bit the powerhouse as before, but the magic and electricity aren’t there anymore. Mysterio, however, was in amazing form. Wrestling without a shirt or singlet, like the old days, was the cherry on top. Shame that it ended with the second roll-up pin of the night.

Austin Theory suspended, Maxxine Dupri was enticed

Adam Pearce berated Theory for his multiple attacks on the roster. Heyman “assured” him that Theory would reflect on his actions. Dupri stood by with Otis and Akira Tozawa, flashing Theory a friendly smile, defending him once Otis said he was bad news.

Jacob Fatu & Roman Reigns Tribal Combat Contract signing

Fatu immediately started throwing everything hither and yon in impulsive rage. Nothing even happened yet; he just started doing that. Reigns strolled calmly, likely expecting nothing to be thrown at him. The OTC informed the Samoan Werewolf that this situation could’ve been avoided if he had “acknowledged” him. Fatu admitted that Reigns’s success elevated all the Samoan wrestlers in WWE. However, according to Fatu, it was time for the guard to change.

Reigns promised to domesticate Fatu. That he would appreciate, acknowledge, learn from, and love the Tribal Chief. Fatu fired back, saying he’d be fine with this, as he’d continue to have a job in WWE. Nevertheless, if he “dog-walked” Reigns, everyone would learn to acknowledge him. He then asked Reigns if he knew what he meant. The two pressed foreheads together.

Final Thoughts

Two roll-up pins in one night may be a small thing to be critical of, but knowing how WWE tends to stick to copy-and-paste techniques, I felt it needed to be mentioned. That said, Penta and Je’Von put on a banger, as did Bayley & Lyra Valkyria against the Judgement Day. Rey Mysterio’s classic gear returning popped me.

Perhaps my biggest gripe was that a Montez Ford win would’ve been an easy layup and great timing, harkening back to the holiday and his time in the military.

WWE Raw results and review are live and continually updated.
