We start off with Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break 2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>WrestleMania<\/strong> week has become a mecca of indie wrestling in recent years, as promotions from around the world come to the host city of WrestleMania for the week and put on showcases throughout the week to the largest congregation of wrestling fans on the planet. Last year&#8217;s breakout event was the inaugural <em><strong>Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break<\/strong><\/em>, hosted by New Jersey&#8217;s <strong>Game Changer Wrestling (GCW)<\/strong>. Not tied to storylines or angles,\u00a0<em>Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break<\/em> was a fun card featuring unlikely match ups and dream matches you never conceived of &#8211; like Joey Janela facing off against former WWE Superstar <strong>Marty Jannetty<\/strong> &#8211; to dream matches you\u00a0<em>wish<\/em> you&#8217;d thought of, like seeing <strong>Matt Riddle<\/strong> face UFC Hall of Famer and former NWA World Heavyweight Champion <strong>Dan &#8220;The Beast&#8221; Severn<\/strong>. The first Clusterfuck battle royal even featured the funtastic return of former WCW Superstar <strong>Glacier<\/strong>. While last year&#8217;s inaugural event was a pleasant surprise, this year&#8217;s second edition now finds itself one of WrestleMania week&#8217;s radar events. This year&#8217;s will be another fun filled event, more akin to the New Japan Battle Royal that kicks off <strong>Wrestle Kingdom<\/strong> each year rather than the <strong>Royal Rumble<\/strong>. While the entrants are mostly a surprise, they have announced two entrants so far &#8211; <strong>EVOLVE<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Chris Dickinson<\/strong> and Irish superstar <strong>Martina &#8220;The Session Moth&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>David Starr vs. Mike Quackenbush<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16184\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16184\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16184\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-27-at-6.52.53-PM-e1522191489505.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"209\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16184\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: GCW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>CHIKARA<\/strong> founder and indie legend <strong>Mike Quackenbush<\/strong> retired from the ring in 2013. Considered one of the United States&#8217; top technical innovators, he came out of retirement briefly in 2016, for an exhibition match against UK legend <strong>Johnny Kidd<\/strong>, and later as <strong>Drew Gulak<\/strong>&#8216;s farewell match before the latter headed to the WWE. Last year, he began to wrestle a little more frequently, facing <strong>Zack Sabre Jr.<\/strong> twice in CHIKARA and then facing Kidd once more at last year&#8217;s UK <em><strong>King of Trios<\/strong><\/em>. But he was goaded back into the ring at the end of 2017 by <strong>Max Smashmaster<\/strong> and seems to be returning, although most likely still in a more exhibition format. At <em>Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break 2,<\/em> he faces one of the international independent scene&#8217;s busiest guys in Philly&#8217;s <strong>David Starr<\/strong>, whose been wrestling for <strong>wXw, PROGRESS, RevPro, Defiant<\/strong> and more European indies, while still wrestling at home with <strong>PWG, AAW, CZW<\/strong> and more. Germany&#8217;s <strong>WALTER<\/strong> has exploded onto the international scene the past year. A veteran of wXw since 2008, he&#8217;s taken the UK by storm (he&#8217;s currently the PROGRESS Atlas Champion) and is now making his brute strength known to North American, with critically acclaimed matches in PWG and EVOLVE. His matches against <strong>Keith Lee<\/strong> have become the stuff of legend. His opponent is former WWF World Tag Team Champion <strong>Pierre Carl Ouellet<\/strong>, whose making a comeback after returning to the ring slowly in 2016 (he retired in 2010). This year, he&#8217;s facing a man that hopes his Two Hands and Fighting Chance will keep him alive &#8211; former WWE Superstar <strong>James Ellsworth<\/strong>. For nearly 30 years, The Great Sasuke has been brutalizing opponents around the world. Starting in Mexico following his training, he founded <strong>Michinoku Pro Wrestling<\/strong> in Japan in 1993. He&#8217;s fought in <strong>NJPW<\/strong>, <strong>All Japan, Pro Wrestling NOAH, WAR, Frontier Martial-arts Wrestling (FMW)<\/strong> &#8211; if it&#8217;s a Japanese promotion, he&#8217;s fought there. On the other, current reigning <strong>Lucha Underground<\/strong> Champion and <strong>PCW Ultra<\/strong> Champion <strong>Penta El 0M<\/strong> (aka <strong>Pentagon Jr.<\/strong>), who&#8217;s shown an evil streak and blood lust for whomever he steps in the ring with.
