The OTC was at the “Head of the Table” again. Almost immediately, the WWE Universe began lining up a list of dream opponents for the new World Champ. To everyone’s surprise, Jacob Fatu emerged as the OTC’s first challenger.

The Samoan Werewolf also came off a major victory at Mania. Fatu defeated Drew McIntyre in an Unsanctioned match, closing the chapter on their heated feud. Alongside Reigns, Fatu is also one of the most protected stars on the main roster. Therefore, WWE has put itself in a unique position.

One man has to take the pinfall, which would definitely hurt their momentum. Furthermore, the Samoan Werewolf left SmackDown for RAW. It would make little sense for WWE to draft Fatu to the red brand without a long-term feud.

However, Reigns vs. Fatu could prove to be a stellar feud. Truth be told, Triple H has several reasons to book this feud. On that note, let’s look at why the OTC vs. the Samoan Werewolf is happening at Backlash 2026.

#3. Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu Feels Fresh

Let’s start with one of the most obvious reasons. Many fans wanted Roman Reigns to revisit his rivalries with the likes of Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Jey Uso, and Cody Rhodes as World Heavyweight Champion. As great as these rivalries could and would be, it’s always good to have variety and freshness in the mix.

Reigns has interacted extensively with Jacob Fatu in the past. Fatu was Solo Sikoa’s enforcer during the Bloodline: Civil War saga. The Samaon Werewolf was a major thorn in Reigns’ side and had laid the OTC out several times at Sikoa’s behest. However, they never battled in a one-on-one contest as WWE was saving the feud for a bigger occasion.

Post WrestleMania season signals a new start. Newer faces emerge, and fresh rivalries are born. In line with this spirit, Triple H has catapulted Fatu into the main event scene, pitting him against a fresh foe in Reigns.

#2. This Could Be the Catalyst for a Jacob Fatu Heel Turn

Jacob Fatu is one of the most compelling and entertaining characters in WWE. His energy is contagious, and the fans are invested in his work. However, Fatu was more successful as a heel. In fact, it felt as if the villainous persona came more naturally to him.

The Samoan Werewolf turned face for a feud with Sikoa, but Triple H clearly didn’t have long-term plans for Fatu. There were extended periods when he was off TV, and he frequently missed PLEs. The program with McIntyre was great. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Fatu’s win-loss record as a babyface.

Therefore, Fatu may turn heel to change his fortunes, and a program with Reigns could be the catalyst for the character change. The OTC and the Usos clearly viewed the Samoan Werewolf as an outsider. According to the storyline, Sikoa brought Fatu into WWE. This was acknowledged during their promo on RAW.

We also saw Fatu use the Tongan Death Grip on Reigns to close the show. The World Heavyweight Champion was gasping for air as Fatu nearly choked him out. Fans are seeing a darker version of the Samoan Werewolf, and it may not be long before we witness a full-blown heel turn.

#1. WWE Could be Planting the Seeds for Another Bloodline Saga

It’s not a coincidence that Jacob Fatu challenged Roman Reigns the same night he entered the ring with the Usos. Although Reigns defeated CM Punk on his own at WrestleMania, he is still on good terms with the twins. We also saw them discuss Fatu’s challenge on RAW. Therefore, there are clear signs that the Original Bloodline is back.

Fatu was not an original member of the faction because he was recruited by Solo Sikoa to take down Reigns’ Bloodline. Hence, he will likely be kept out of the group for now. However, Backlash could change things. Much like Jimmy and Jey Uso joined Reigns, Fatu could enter the Bloodline upon losing to the OTC.

Alternatively, a frustrated Fatu could take matters into his own hands. He could assemble a Bloodline of his own to take down the OTC. Sikoa has also been roaming around the Usos a lot, and he could figure into the storyline, too. One thing is for sure: the Bloodline saga might just be entering a new phase.

When Roman Reigns became the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 42, fans were ecstatic.
