CMLL paid the price and booking was rapidly altered in the programs to come, killing any kind of revenge from the unmasked Pierroth and Diamante Azul.

Welcome to the New Breed

September 16th at CMLL‘s biggest event of the year in 2017, at the 84th Anniversary, bookers tried something that wasn’t their usual style, but they did it: a short but strong rivalry between two young stars: Gran Guerrero and Niebla Roja. Both guys held the rivalry against the scorn of purists, who were angry because no legendary masks were on the table. Nevertheless, the two youngsters gave a great match and everything seemed to be fine: Niebla Roja became a renewed luchador and Gran Guerrero stood tall, starting a believable run as a follower of the name Guerrero.

Nobody walked out upset at this result, and between polemics and praising, CMLL gave continuity to the rivalry, giving us two stronger performers for the times to come. Everybody won.

Ángel de Oro is the younger brother of Niebla Roja and son of Apolo Chávez, being a second generation luchador with strong basis on ground lucha libre and flying style. He is one of CMLL´s greatest luchadores and was in need of a valuable bet on his career. He is a former lightweight and middleweight champion, which is good but to be honest, little representative of his abilities, so choosing him for a major projection is something relevant for his status as luchador. And here we go. Who could be his nemesis right now?

Cuatrero is one of the new Los Hermanos Dinamita trío, a name borrowed from his father and uncles, legendary luchador Cien Caras, also known by his real name Carmelo Reyes, and Máscara Año Dos Mil and Universo 2000. No doubt Cuatrero is one hell of an athlete, as the 22 year old luchador has it all: strange, speed, agility and in ring prowess. Of course, he has lots to learn, but at the same time, the impulse of his blood, gives him the ground to impress any lucha libre fan. Cuatrero may be a little shadowed by older brother Sansón, but at the same time, the idea of competition, make them more vicious, more of care and it is working.

Young Blood

Cuatrero and Ángel de Oro have been feuding since last december, even in Japan at New Japan Pro Wrestling combined event, Fantasticamania they gave us a great match resulting in Ángel losing the CMLL World Middleweight Championship.

The rivalry has become bitter, with the two of them getting heat at every venue they see each other. Sometimes, and this is one classic hole where CMLL´s booking fails the luchadores, they go over and over on the same line (they wrestle together on four or five matches at the week) repeating the spots and wasting precious time of the rivalry. Nevertheless, this youngsters are rising above the odds giving a great spectacle.

It´s difficult to give any prediction – both luchadores have a long career ahead and losing the mask can be something that put their names in lower charts if charisma isn´t enough. Cuatrero has barely four years of experience and Ángel is going for his tenth year; also, Ángel de Oro´s brother, Niebla Roja is now unmasked and has won with fans because of his looks and experience. If Cuatrero loses his mask, he would make the name Los Dinamita, like a weak stable. The odds are the same for both luchadores.

CMLL´s Campeonato de Parejas

Other interesting match in the bill is the CMLL´s Campeonato de Parejas where Volador Jr. and El Valiente will struggle against Rey Bucanero and the new Ingobernable El Terrible. Both tags have been doing great and the finals are one of the most interesting tag feuds on the last months. Volador Jr. and Terrible are in a big rivalry and we can expect Los Ingobernables stable making an appearance in this match. Rush and his father Pierroth are very close to give us something special on the previous match and we can expect their appearance sooner or later on this tag match.

The rest of the card including El Ingobernable Mayor, Rush with his blood brothers Dragon Lee and Místico squaring against Sansón, Forastero and Máscara Año Dos Mil.

Friday, March 16th brings us the 22nd presentation of CMLL Homenaje a Dos Leyendas, the company’s second biggest event where they pay homage to founder Salvador Lutteroth and another lucha legend, this year being none other than the legendary Mil Máscaras.
