In AEW, he had a total of nine televised matches, and a large chunk of them were on AEW Rampage.

At first, fans warmly received Danhausen. To that effect, he’d move a lot of merch and had a great relationship with fan artists as a result. Though his character was infectious, fans had an expectation for that to go with high-caliber action, which he somewhat lacked. This, coupled with a friendship with CM Punk (who left on less-than-great terms) and a tiredness with his routine, catalyzed his eventual All Elite decline.

Wait, did Danhausen's curse work?

Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on TBS!@trentylocks | @bountykeith | @briancagegmsi | @vikingo_aaa | @DanhausenAD pic.twitter.com/Z26dmarw30

— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 4, 2024

What will Danhausen bring to WWE?

If fans are expecting Randy Savage versus Ricky Steamboat levels of grandeur in Danhausen’s in-ring work rate, they’ll be unsatisfied. That’s not where his strength lies. What sets Danhausen apart is his clearly defined character and image. He even trademarked his actual physical appearance, name, and catchphrases. This will drive further merchandise sales, which will inject dollar signs into the pupils of WWE’s higher-ups, and fans who are interested in that sort of thing will love that Danhausen. What worked for him on the independent scene may actually work under newer circumstances.

Furthermore, Danhausen’s unique speech pattern and voice, combined with his face paint, will see something different. It’s a performance art that will undoubtedly see him as a top comedic act. Considering the likes of R-Truth, Akira Tozawa, and Kit Wilson also check those boxes, Danhausen will be in good company. I expect him to be a mid-card talent who puts over superstars on the rise. Given WWE’s penchant for “making moments,” his clips may go viral.

That said, he won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Plus, the fans were likely expecting someone or something else to be in that crate. That’s not an indictment on Danhausen, but moreso the booking. The creative direction under Triple H set up this newbie for disaster.

Fans expected something bigger, and given that they spend money on the ESPN app, that’s valid. Perhaps debuting on television would have served him better. While I think Danhausen can easily recover if the company leans into his unpopularity for comedic purposes, this further cements the incompetence at WWE’s current level of booking. I wouldn’t be surprised if Paul Levesque and his current team are ultimately replaced or spearheaded by more capable hands at this pace.

For Danhausen, he’s no stranger to mishandling.
