And even though perhaps one of the masked man stand-ins was revealed and unmasked on the last SmackDown of February, it seems this angle is far from finished. On Friday’s SmackDown, the masked man once again tried to interfere to cost the Vision but Logan Paul had him scouted this time and was able to wrestle him to the ground and unmask him. Revealed was a face not many likely recognized. Even Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett on commentary seemed baffled at the sight unfolding before them.

Furio Has Connections to Both Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes

There have been rumors that WWE is using stand-ins for the masked man, guys who look and move like Seth Rollins. The idea is Rollins will eventually be revealed as the attacker, hence the masked man and his use of Rollins’ Curb Stomp. But perhaps Furio is more than just a stand-in in this case. WWE made a conscious choice to have him be unmasked. They knew people would wonder his identity and now that it’s out, they likely knew people would make the connection. Furio trained at the Black and Brave Academy, the wrestling school run by Seth Rollins. In an Instagram post from May, 2025 describing Furio’s bonafides, Rollins posted, “Furio has made hs way through various promotions in the Carolinas with excellent results. He’s been involved with WrestleForce, Pro Wrestling Union, Old School Championship Wrestling, American Wrestling League (AWL), and Wrestling Evolution, LLC.” At the time of Rollins’ writing, Furio was the reigning heavyweight champion in both Wrestling Evolution and AWL.

As Rollins also noted, Furio graduated from both “camps” in 2021. And this is where things really get interesting. Because while a lot of attention is being paid to how the masked man has targeted the Vision, the group that betrayed Rollins, there have also been backstage attacks on Jacob Fatu and Jey Uso, two men with whom one of Furio’s other trainers has a history.

Could the Masked Man be Pulling Double Duty?

In the end, it seems likely that WWE will reveal that Furio donned the mask while working under Rollins’ directive. However, what if Furio was working for his other trainer as well? Fans will have noticed a new edge to Cody Rhodes of late, beginning even before he lost his world title. In a heated segment with Nick Aldis in the midst of his feud with Drew McIntyre, Rhodes teased a heel turn by telling the GM that he had power over him as the champ. That tense face-off preceded McIntyre taking the title off Rhodes in shocking fashion during WWE’s European Tour. And ever since then, things have changed for Rhodes. His reactions from crowds have started to feature more and more boos. His attitude has shifted. He is a former champion, desperate to get his title back. So desperate he would do anything…

Rhodes and Jacob Fatu have been embroiled in their own feud, one that ties both men to the championship and McIntyre as well. But there is another cloud hovering over that angle, and it’s the still-to-be-revealed mystery attacker of Jacob Fatu from last year. Of course, that attack was designed to write Fatu off TV for dental work he needed, but that doesn’t mean it can’t double as a storyline. Given Friday’s additional attack on Fatu’s cousin and would-be Elimination Chamber participant Jey Uso, it definitely seems the attacker’s reveal will connect these two victims. WWE teased a heel turn, not for Rhodes this time, but for Sami Zayn as he accused Fatu of attacking Uso before Fatu threw the accusation back on him. Zayn exploded in frustration afterward, tossing the backstage. A heel turn for Zayn could make sense, but if the idea is for Zayn to finally win the big win in 2026, it would be much more rewarding for him to do it as perhaps WWE’s biggest true babyface champion since Daniel Bryan during the Yes! Movement.

That brings us back to Rhodes. It’s not hard to imagine Rhodes attacking Fatu, but Uso? That’s a little less likely on paper. Which is why it makes all of the sense in the world. Uso was set for the Elimination Chamber, the same match Rhodes finds himself in. Rhodes and Uso are friends. They even won the tag team championships together. Though that was three years ago and a lot can – and has – happened in that span. The Rhodes Uso knew is long gone, so is it really that much of a stretch to think Rhodes could have enlisted his former student in the same way Rollins has?

When Can We Expect the Big Reveal?

In the end, there is probably one masked man and one mystery attacker. They probably aren’t the same person. However, it is hard to dismiss WWE’s choice to reveal a man with ties to both Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, two men who have been under suspicion of the attacks occurring on their respective brands. For Rollins, his motivation is plain and simply revenge. For Rhodes, it’s a desire to be back on top and willing to step on anyone in that path back up the mountain. WWE has even teased Rhodes and longtime friend and mentor Randy Orton starting to show cracks in their relationship due to their shared pursuit of the world title. Rhodes hasn’t betrayed Orton yet, but the moment seems like it’s coming.

WWE is set to reveal who is inside the giant Elimination Chamber crate tonight, so it is likely the masked man/attacker reveals will linger a bit longer, leading up to WrestleMania 42. A lot could depend on Rollins’ ability to return from injury in time for the Vegas extravaganza and, concurrently, what WWE is planning for McIntyre/Rhodes/Fatu. Either way, there are a lot of moving pieces. This story, despite a reveal of sorts, seems like it’s just getting started.

Ever since the WWE Royal Rumble, the presence of one or many masked assailants attacking wrestlers on both Raw and SmackDown has been quite the story.
