And what a show it is looking to be. Unlike most weeks for Raw, WWE has pretty much laid out the entire card for a show that will be framed around tributes to the recently retired AJ Styles. There will be SmackDown wrestlers on hand in addition to the return of Brock Lesnar and a very important decision from Liv Morgan. Plus, the final two spots in the Elimination Chamber will be decided. Oh, and there is this mysterious crate traveling around…

Below, we break down the three biggest storylines that fans can expect to see play out on WWE Raw tonight.

WWE Raw Tonight (2/23/26) – Top Storylines

Credit: WWE

A Phenomenal Farewell

When AJ Styles left the ring in Saudi Arabia, something didn’t feel right. While rumors of his retirement had begun to swirl before the match, going into the Royal Rumble, things never truly felt ‘final.’ Sure, it was 10 years since Styles made his WWE debut, and sure, he walked away at the same event where it all began for him. But something was missing and has been missing…until tonight.

WWE is pulling out all of the stops for Styles to say goodbye to wrestling just a short distance away from where he grew up in Gainesville, Georgia. Styles is confirmed to be in the arena live, so it’s hard to imagine Gunther won’t try to make his presence known despite what will no doubt be Adam Pearce’s best efforts to prevent such a thing. But Gunther and any potential storyline development aside, tonight will be about the ‘Face who Ran the Place’ for the last decade. Expect surprises, including some potentially from Styles’ old stomping grounds. There could even possibly be an announcement or two with a Hall of Fame induction being floated around. Wrestlers have been sharing their goodbyes to Styles through video tributes, but there will be more of that in person as the guys and girls of the locker room have a chance to thank him for what he’s meant to their careers.

Essentially, tonight will be about celebrating and recognizing the phenomenal career of AJ Styles. No matter what twists and turns WWE may sneak in along the way…

Building to Elimination Chamber

On Monday, the final two spots for the Elimination Chamber matches will be decided. Thus far, the matches look like this:

Women’s Elimination Chamber: Tiffany Stratton vs Rhea Ripley vs Kiana James vs Alexa Bliss vs Asuka vs ???

Men’s Elimination Chamber: Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes vs Je’Von Evans vs Trick Williams vs LA Knight vs ???

Tonight, Jey Uso takes on Bronson Reed and El Grande Americano Original for the last spot in the men’s match, and Iyo Sky, Raquel Rodriguez, and Kairi Sane battle for the final spot in the women’s match. Breaking down those two matches, there are a lot of combustible elements. El Grande not-so-original could well cost the OG, furthering their tension leading up to WrestleMania 42. Meanwhile, the masked man could veer his clothed head to yet again cost a member of the Vision something important to them. For the women, the trio all have history, and they all have tag team partners. It’s hard not to see a world where one or more of Roxanne Perez, Asuka, or Rhea Ripley don’t get involved. It is worth noting that of the trio in action, Sane’s partner Asuka and Sky’s partner Ripley have already earned their spots.

WWE could really go either way with both of these matches. There have already been some surprising results, like Evans emerging victorious against Gunther and Dominik Mysterio in a move clearly made to see the Young OG do something crazy off the top of the cage. The chamber itself will be ripe with storytelling, such as the final cracks in Rhodes and Orton’s friendship, that takes us further on the Road to WrestleMania. A win for Uso or Reed best lends itself to some of those storylines, and ya know, a tsunami off the top of the chamber…And for the women, there is no wrong way to go. A win for Sane or Sky assures that either the Kabuki Warriors or RHIYO has a tag team advantage. A win for Rodriguez opens up Judgment Day to potentially claim both women’s titles at WrestleMania in yet another historic moment for the faction. Which brings us to something else to watch for tonight…

Liv Morgan’s WrestleMania Decision

Liv Morgan has made the most of her Royal Rumble victory. For weeks, she’s gone between Raw and SmackDown, surveying her options and simultaneously aggravating both champs in the process. At this point, Jade Cargill and Stephanie Vaquer both want their pound of flesh, so the question remains: who will Morgan choose?

There was a world not that long ago where Rodriguez beat Vaquer for the WWE Women’s World Championship, leading to Morgan vs her best friend, but WWE seems to be putting that on the back burner for now. There is no real history with either competitor for Morgan, though she was briefly connected with being Cargill’s attacker before the true culprit was revealed as Naomi. At this point, it seems more likely the decision will come down to what brand WWE wants Morgan on going forward, as it appears likely she’ll regain the title at WrestleMania 42. So does Morgan stay on Raw with what’s left of the Judgment Day, or does she head to SmackDown for some fresh matchups and battles with old rivals? Her decision tonight could go a long way toward determining exactly that.

Honorable Mention: Seriously, though, what’s in the box?

On Saturday, we find out the answer to the burning question on everyone’s mind: what’s in the crate underneath where Johnny Gargano was recently caught moping? The answer could be found in the form of what or, as many people are expecting, who. There has been no shortage of rumors with people speculating on a returning star or a debuting one, or a certain masked man. The last time WWE utilized a crate, it involved Sting coming out of it to attack Seth Rollins, so perhaps this time around it’s Rollins’ turn to be the supriser not the surprisee. Chris Jericho’s name had been floated as well, but he’s reportedly still under contract with AEW…Neither Jericho nor AEW seems to have confirmed or denied that fact, so the idea of him being in the box is still on the table.

WWE will either deliver on a great surprise or another Gobbledy Gooker. But one thing is certain: the intrigue is going to have people tuning in to find out.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE Raw tonight and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
