This year will mark the first time since 1988 and 1989, when Atlantic City hosted WrestleMania, that the event is being held in the same venue two years in a row. However, this year comes with a challenge: WWE is currently finding it tougher to fill seats, trailing about 10,000 tickets behind where they stood at this point for WrestleMania 41.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To make matters worse, WWE has introduced a new policy that prohibits local venues, such as bars and theaters within a 50-mile radius of Allegiant Stadium, from hosting watch parties, even if these establishments have paid a licensing fee. Similarly, the ringside package that cost roughly $15,000 last year is expected to cost between $23,000 and $70,000+ this year, an increase of 50% to 350%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To add insult to injury, WWE President Nick Khan has indicated that the company views these ticket prices as \u201cfair for the marketplace.\u201d If the current sales figures for WrestleMania 42 are any indication, however, the average fan seemingly does not agree.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. The Vegas Fatigue Factor\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

While WrestleMania 42 marks the first time in nearly 40 years that the event has returned to the same venue two years in a row, the move appears to be backfiring with the average fan. One critical factor that is harder for fans to express, but just as impactful, is the creative product itself. There is a growing sentiment among some fans that the booking has become stagnant, with many labelling the match-ups for the two-night card as either lazy or lacking the uniqueness expected of such a massive event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many fans are also growing tired of seeing the same handful of stars dominate the main event and title scenes. While there were reportedly plans for a Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes trilogy, those plans were scrapped for a different direction instead. This pivot shows that WWE may be listening to the social media rumblings from fans who are hungry for something different.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. End the \u201cMedia Blackout\u201d<\/b><\/h2>\n

Restricting establishments within a 50-mile radius of Allegiant Stadium from being able to stream WrestleMania 42, even if they have paid a licensing fee, is a move that many critics view as shortsighted. Forcing fans who may be unwilling to pay this year\u2019s inflated ticket prices away from a $50 bar experience doesn\u2019t drive them towards the stadium, but rather fuels resentment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Inject Creativity Into the Card and Showcase New Talent\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

Now that one of the biggest box office attractions in WWE history has retired, the company has a real opportunity to prove it is ready for life without John Cena. They can do this by booking more unique, interesting matches and, most importantly, by giving the newer talent an opportunity to shine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WWE has had three notable call-ups over the last couple of months. Je\u2019Von Evans has already shown immense potential despite being just 21 years old. Oba Femi, while not officially assigned to Raw or SmackDown, has fans excited for what he can do with his incredible athletic ability. <\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, Trick Williams has been superb on the main roster since arriving on SmackDown, consistently showcasing both his in-ring skills and his incredible charisma on the mic.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is crucial that, as we inch closer to WrestleMania 42, WWE showcases many of its young talents while also injecting fresh, \u201cmust-see\u201d matchups into the lineup. With the World Heavyweight Title clash between CM Punk and Roman Reigns being the only official lock, creative is reportedly re-evaluating the entire card.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The goal is to ensure the show feels dynamic and entirely fresh instead of rolling with the \u201cold reliable\u201d matches they had originally planned to fall back on. Expecting fans to pay premium prices for a card that feels like a replay of previous years is an unsustainable strategy, and slow ticket sales have made this reality very clear to WWE.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
