One is the brand split, the introduction of the World Heavyweight Championship, and the Elimination Chamber match. However, the Elimination Chamber grew with the match being held exclusively at the Elimination Chamber PLE since 2010.

RELATED:

WWE Elimination Chamber Match: History by the Numbers

The World Heavyweight Championship was one of the most prestigious world titles in WWE history. The title featured for 11 years between 2002 and 2013. However, the first three Elimination Chamber matches were for the coveted World Heavyweight Championship. Some of the best Elimination Chamber matches in WWE history were for the iconic Big Gold Belt. Nevertheless, some Champions retained their titles, and others took home the World Heavyweight Championship, making history in hard-fought battles.

7. Daniel Bryan vs. Santino Marella vs. Wade Barrett vs. Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes vs. The Great Khali (Elimination Chamber 2012)

Daniel Bryan competed in an Elimination Chamber match for the first time at Elimination Chamber 2012 when he had a plethora of opponents looking to dethrone him for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, the inclusions of Santino Marella and former World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali seemed out of place.

Cody Rhodes, bidding to become a double Champion, held the Intercontinental Championship. However, Marella’s elimination of Rhodes and Wade Barrett was illogical. Nevertheless, Marella was a runner-up in the 2011 Royal Rumble match, and he was looking to cause another upset as he reached the final two alongside Bryan. Marella hit Bryan with the Cobra, making fans think that Marella was going to upset the odds. However, Bryan retained the World Heavyweight Championship in an average Chamber match.

6. Triple H vs. Goldberg vs. Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Nash (SummerSlam 2003)

The Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2003 is notorious for a couple of things. The Game wore his biker shorts as he was suffering from a groin injury, and Goldberg’s destructive performance. Furthermore, Randy Orton featured in his first Elimination Chamber match at the age of 23. While he was bidding to become the youngest World Champion in WWE history, he aimed to help his Evolution mentor Triple H retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

Goldberg was on a rampage, and he speared Jericho through a pod. However, Goldberg eliminated Jericho, Randy Orton, and Shawn Michaels from the Chamber. The Game was the last to enter because of his injury and briefly wrestled with Goldberg. Goldberg’s coronation should’ve been at SummerSlam, but Ric Flair slid a sledgehammer into the ring. Triple H clocked Goldberg with the sledgehammer to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

5. The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison vs. CM Punk vs. R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio (Elimination Chamber 2010)

Drama ensued before the Elimination Chamber match for The Undertaker’s World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber 2010. Undertaker was engulfed in flames due to a pyro malfunction on his way down the aisle and raced to the ring. The Phenom doused himself in water as he suffered first and second-degree burns to his chest. Nevertheless, this Chamber is often overlooked, but the match fired on all cylinders. John Morrison thrived in his debut Chamber appearance.

The two veterans, Undertaker and Chris Jericho, were the final two participants slugging it out over the World Heavyweight Championship. The Phenom was in pole position to hang onto his title. However, Shawn Michaels had other ideas by emerging through the Chamber panel below and nailing Undertaker with Sweet Chin Music. Nevertheless, Jericho finally won an Elimination Chamber match, clinching his sixth WWE World Championship.

4. Edge vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Wade Barrett vs. Big Show vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Kane (Elimination Chamber 2011)

One of the best Elimination Chamber matches in WWE history was Edge’s World Heavyweight Championship title defense at Elimination Chamber 2011. The Rated-R Superstar defended the title against Drew McIntyre, Wade Barrett, and former World Champions Rey Mysterio, Kane, and Big Show. There was a mixture of youth and experience, and the match paid off with some excellent in-ring action.

Edge and his former tag team partner, Rey Mysterio, opened up the match, and at various points throughout the match, they worked as a cohesive unit. However, Edge made history as he became the first defending World Champion in five years to retain his Championship in an Elimination Chamber match. He ran the gauntlet and finished off Mysterio for the second time in three years in an Elimination Chamber match to prevail.

3. Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Batista vs. Chris Benoit vs. Edge vs. Chris Jericho (New Year’s Revolution 2005)

Shawn Michaels oversaw proceedings as the special guest referee in the Elimination Chamber match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship at New Year’s Revolution 2005. This was the first Elimination Chamber match to take place outside of North America, with the fans in San Juan, Puerto Rico, having a great time witnessing the Chamber live. Nevertheless, despite Triple H being the heel, the fans were cheering for him.

The plot between Evolution stablemates Triple H and Batista heated up before the match. However, the match was outstanding with several wrestlers wearing the proverbial crimson mask. Randy Orton eliminated his former Evolution stablemate Batista with an RKO. The Game could’ve saved the Animal, but he opted not to when he got up and sat back down in the corner. Ultimately, Triple H triumphed for the second time in an Elimination Chamber match, capturing his 10th World Championship with a Pedigree at Orton’s expense.

2. John Cena vs. Edge vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox vs. Kane vs. Chris Jericho (No Way Out 2009)

Edge dropped the WWE Championship in the first Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out 2009. However, the Rated-R Superstar was desperate, and he was not going to leave No Way Out without a World Championship. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Edge stole Kofi Kingston’s spot by attacking him from behind when Kingston was about to enter the Chamber for the World Heavyweight Championship.

John Cena defended the title, making history as the first man to defend both the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships in an Elimination Chamber match. This match was off the charts, and Edge got the better of his rival, Cena, by eliminating him with a Spear. A new World Heavyweight Champion was guaranteed. Edge and Mysterio battled back and forth, but the Rated-R Superstar seized the opportunity by overcoming Mysterio to become an eight-time World Champion. Edge’s history-making night saw him become the first man to compete in two Elimination Chamber matches in one night.

1. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Booker T vs. Kane vs. Chris Jericho vs. Rob Van Dam (Survivor Series 2002)

Arguably, the inaugural Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series 2002 is the greatest in WWE history. Triple H walked into the unknown with a slew of hungry challengers looking to dethrone him for the title.

Rob Van Dam crushed The Game’s trachea, and Triple H found a way to continue. The match was violent and inevitably, the showdown between Triple H and Shawn Michaels as the final two was the right call. Despite Triple H countering Sweet Chin Music with the Pedigree, Michaels regrouped, and he put his former best friend away with Sweet Chin Music to win a fourth and final WWE World Championship.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling<amp-ad data-block-on-consent="" width="300" height="600" layout="fixed" data-multi-size="300x250,300x600" data-multi-size-validation="false" type="doubleclick" data-slot="/15188745,22512265771/FS-lastwordonsports-AMP/AMP-2" data-enable-refresh="30" data-lazy-fetch="true" data-loading-strategy="1.25" rtc-config="{ "vendors": { "t13": { "TAG_ID": "4f799893-5665-4629-b0fc-8b97d3569fd6", "ACCOUNT_ID": "9a3c6c23-453a-4cba-b419-30b908f39a50" }, "aps": { "PUB_ID": "600", "PUB_UUID": "16268e26-dabe-4bf4-a28f-b8f4ee192ed3", "PARAMS": { "amp": "1" } }, "criteo": { "NETWORK_ID": "4905", "ZONE_ID": "1382491", "PUBLISHER_SUB_ID": "FS-lastwordonsports-AMP-2" }, "medianet": { "CID": "8CU8ZT2C4" } } }"></amp-ad>

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on the WWE Elimination Chamber and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
