Kenny Omega addressed Don Callis and Andrade el Idolo, to which Callis retorted in favor of Idolo. Babes of Wrath expressed their determination against Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne, who replied in kind.

Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, El Clon, & Josh Alexander) defeated Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Pac, & Daniel Garcia)

Alexander initially grounded Garcia, but the youngster fired back with strikes to give him an edge. Clon, meanwhile, would have no issue gravitating Pac, leading to a Moxley tag-in. Takeshita accepted Clon’s withdrawal, and their respective teams broke up their proverbial horn-locking. Despite the odds of all Death Riders upon him, Takeshita equalized them and hurled Moxley with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Alexander tripped up Pac as he gained steam against Clon and joined Takeshita in pummeling Moxley.

Taunting Moxley, the Don Callis Family bore down on Pac. Alexander positioned himself for a Guillotine Legdrop on Pac but missed. Once more, Moxley and Takeshita traded blows until the former eventually landed a lariat on the Alpha. Garcia became the legal man, sinking in a Liontamer. Everyone traded their signature offense and moves until Moxley’s tope suicida sent everyone to the floor. Garcia miraculously withstood a Blue Thunderbomb, but couldn’t endure a German Suplex. His cohorts battered Garcia like hungry vultures. A Raging Fire soundly put the tender Garcia away.

(Thrilling trios match. Garcia was the MVP, the glue that held it all together, while Moxley and Takeshita were the powerhouses. Clon’s momentum continued nicely.)

Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana’s next steps

Accepting his loss at the January 28 episode of Dynamite, Strickland and Nana declared that they’d continue to move forward to work their way to the World Championship picture.

Will Ospreay video package

An emotional vignette recapped Ospreay’s AEW journey, solidifying his determination to return to the ring.

Orange Cassidy & Timeless Toni Storm defeated Jordan Oasis & Brittnie Brooks

Oasis offered Cassidy a free “first shot,” which was met with his usual aloof antics. Cassidy hesitated to capitalize when he had Oasis on the ground, worried about the upcoming Hair versus Hair tag team match. Storm and Cassidy danced around, knocking out Brooks and Oasis. Cassidy and Storm DDT’d Oasis and Brooks, respectively. Oasis suffered Storm’s Hip Attack and Cassidy’s Orange Punch, giving an easy victory to the denim-clad wrestlers.

Post-match: Cassidy and Storm regretted their upcoming Hair versus Hair Tag Team Match. Luther appeared offended at their horror, as he is bald. Yet Storm and Cassidy steeled their resolve to see the match through.

(Storm and Cassidy’s comedy worked well here. I think there may be a fun spot in ROH and the lower card for Oasis and Brooks if they ever signed.)

War Dogs assaulted Darby Allin

A pre-recorded tape displayed Allin skateboarding around the arena. Clark Connors and Gabe Kidd of the War Dogs ambushed him and drove off.

Hangman Adam Page defeated Mark Davis

Davis quickly scoop-slammed Page, but a Sliding Lariat and dropkick returned him to the mat. Page propelled the giant Aussie into the announce desk with a Flying Crossbody from the ring. Davis replied by throwing his body at Page at every turn, especially in the corner of the outside barricade. Later, Page lured Davis near the barricade again for an Orihara Moonsault and followed with another in the ring. Davis kept planting Page to the mat, unrelenting in his dominance. At last, Page managed a Dead Eye, but it was unsuccessful. Sidestepping a Buckshot Lariat, David eventually found himself a victim of a Tombstone Piledriver on the ramp. One more Buckshot Lariat put the Aussie down for the count.

Post-match: Page looked ahead to Grand Slam: Australia and whether he’d fight Kenny Omega or Andrade el Idolo.

(What a match! Mark Davis needed such a heater after losing Jake Doyle to injury.)

Kevin Knight video package

A confident vignette showcased Knight’s acrobatic in-ring style, with past promos narrating.

Andrade el Idolo defeated Kenny Omega

Idolo and manager Don Callis went over their battle plan ahead of the bell’s ring. After swinging his shirt off, he and Omega traded chops. A knee strike sent Idolo to the outside. Escaping the deadly One-Winged Angel, Idolo flung Omega with a vertical suplex. Cornered on the top turnbuckle. Idolo absorbed many headbutts and a Superplex. Engaging wrist control, Omega chopped Idolo down and moonsaulted on him. Evoking Eddie Guerrero’s Three Amigos, Idolo punctuated the move outside on the floor. Naturally, he proceeded to flirt with and take selfies with attractive women after a tope to Omega.

Securing a Figure-Four Leglock, Idolo torqued Omega’s legs, agonizing him. Omega managed two Snapdragon Suplexes. Rattling Idolo with a few V-Triggers, Omega positioned him for an Avalanche One-Winged Angel. Fortunately for Idolo, a powerbomb countered this disastrous move. Idolo slapped his legs and obliterated Omega with his double-knee strike. Exchanging knee strikes, Omega seemed advantageous, but Idolo gaine dleverage with a spinning backfist. Callis handed Idolo a screwdriver, but Swerve Strickland intervened. Referee Aubrey Edwards bickered with him, leading Idolo to low blow Omega and demolish him with a DM.

Post-match: Irate, Omega argued with Strickland until they began shoving each other. Security had to pull them apart.

(The right call. Omega is one of my all-time favorites, but Idolo has been on an unreal trajectory since his AEW return, hotter than ever thanks to his WWE snafu.)

Kris Statlander acknowledged Thekla

Statlander answered Renee Paquette’s questions about her recent match against Thekla, stating that she and other competitors would have to wait for her next move.

Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford defeated Babes of Wrath (Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron) (c) in a Women’s World Tag Team Eliminator

Ford refused to lock up with Cameron, so Bayne and Nightingale stepped in. It was a ruse, however, as Ford ambushed Nightingale and Bayne barreled Cameron off the ropes. Nightingale soon got the better of Bayne, but Ford allowed her partner a chance for a hurricanrana off the top rope. She followed suit with a tope to torment Nightingale’s spine on the barricade.

Nightingale pounced her wayto a comeback, giving Cameron enough time to Slingblade Ford. Bayne and Ford sought to crush Cameron with a Brainbuster, but she evaded. Nightingale joined her for a Superplex to Bayne. Incensed, Nightingale dazed Bayne with a Spinebuster. Bayne tossed Ford as a Cutter to Nightingale. Bayne pinned Cameron after Ford assisted her in a Doomsday Device. These teams will have a rematch for the Women’s World Tag Team titles at Grand Slam Australia on February 14.

(Ford stood out the best in this, putting herself out there to elevate the stakes of this match beyond being Bayne’s less powerful partner.)

TNT Champion Tomasso Ciampa welcomed “Silvie”

Celebrating his recent championship victory, Ciampa set his title on the line for the February 7 Collision against Roderick Strong & CMLL World Champion Claudio Castagnoli.

Ricochet (c) defeated Jack Perry for the AEW National Championship

Perry wasted no time in beating down the champion before the bell. Ricochet took the brunt of Perry’s offense, including a spear and a fist-pummeling in the corner. In time, Ricochet gained control, kicking and stomping his challenger under a sea of “Bald!” chants. Catching Perry mid-dropkick, Ricochet launched him into the commentary desk. He later unleashed a series of vertical suplexes, leading from the middle of the ring to the apron to the floor. He stole AJ Styles’s Phenomenal Forearm for further punishment. Perry regained momentum with a Poisonrana and a DDT, punctuated by a Cutter. Decidedly in the middle of the ring, Perry caught Ricochet in a Snaretrap. GOA sauntered to the ring; Bishop Kaun distracted Referee Rick Knox while Toa Liona pulled Ricochet to the rope for a break.

Nick and Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks intercepted GOA, brawling with them to the back. Employing a Vertigo in the middle of the ring, Ricochet walked away with a successful, albeit dirty, title retention.

(An exhilarating match, but nothing much else to say except that Ricochet is bald.)

War Dogs unveiled “the footage”

Gabe Kidd & Clark Connors intruded backstage where the footage was controlled, demanding that production play the footage of them dragging Darby Allin (in a bodybag), tying him to their car, and dragging him across the desert. They cut the rope and left him there.

Brody King defeated MJF (c) in an AEW Men’s World Championship Eliminator

The crowd was fully behind Brody King, with anti-ICE chants ringing through the arena.

Though the bell rang, Hangman Adam Page interrupted. MJF, distracted, did not notice King approach from behind. The challenger choked the champion unconscious enough before launching into a corner cannonball. The behemoth squashed the champion with a Gonzo Bomb to Page’s delight. A rematch was then set for AEW Grand Slam Australia on February 14.

Post-match: As Page left, Andrade el Idolo clobbered King and worsened MJF with a DM. Page left Idolo in a daze before attacking MJF more. King unleashed one more Gonzo Bomb to the champ and posed with the title.

(Sure, Page’s intervention did put a tiny asterisk to the match, but damn, what a satisfying finish.)

Final Thoughts

From top to bottom, this show delivered. Going into, watching, and leaving Dynamite shows this year has felt like weekly pay-per-views.

The fun trios match at the beginning, and the National Championship match was entertaining. However, the women’s tag match was a blast, and Omega versus Idolo will probably land some five-star ratings this week. Plus, multiple storylines and matchup ideas immediately branched from this. Hangman Page and Mark Davis were similarly entertaining. I’m looking forward to Orange Cassidy & Toni Storm’s Hair versus Hair Match against Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir. And Brody King’s victory over MJF was so satisfying.)

AEW Dynamite results and live updates from the Pearl Theater at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, tonight will be available throughout the show.
