Since 1993, the winner of the Royal Rumble has been awarded a world championship match at WrestleMania. Three decades after the first Royal Rumble match, the women’s Royal Rumble match was introduced.

However, since 2018, wrestling fans have been treated to not just one but two Royal Rumble matches. For sure, some years the winner of the Royal Rumble is predictable, but some years it’s hard to call, especially with Jey Uso’s triumph in 2025.

RELATED:

5 WWE Wrestlers Who Won the Royal Rumble in their First Attempt

Winning the Royal Rumble once is a phenomenal achievement, but some wrestlers have managed to win the Royal Rumble multiple times. Charlotte Flair made history in 2025 by becoming the first woman to win multiple women’s Royal Rumble matches, coupled with her 2020 triumph. Furthermore, 10 men have won the men’s Royal Rumble match more than once. This article will review the five best multiple-time Royal Rumble winners based on their performances in those titular bouts.

5. Edge

Edge was one-half of the Unified WWE Tag Team Champions alongside Chris Jericho when he tore his Achilles tendon in the summer of 2009. However, the Rated-R Superstar relinquished the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship.

Nevertheless, Edge made a surprising return as the 29th entrant in the 2010 Royal Rumble match. He eliminated his former tag team partner, Y2J, and a familiar rival in John Cena to win the 2010 Royal Rumble match in a seven-minute cameo.

After an emotional return to WWE in the 2020 men’s Royal Rumble match, Edge targeted victory in the 2021 men’s Royal Rumble match. However, he entered from the uneviable number one position. The 11-time world champion kicked things off with his former tag team partner and rival, Randy Orton.

Nevertheless, Edge eliminated Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, and Randy Orton to win the 2021 men’s Royal Rumble match, 11 years to the day from his 2010 win. Unfortunately, for Edge, he became the first two-time Rumble winner to lose both of his world title matches at WrestleMania.

4. Cody Rhodes

“The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes returned to in-ring competition after seven months on the sidelines with a torn pec in the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match. Rhodes entered the Rumble from the luxurious 30th position. However, Rhodes was on a rampage as he eliminated Dominik Mysterio, Braun Strowman, Austin Theory, and Logan Paul.

Moreover, for the first time in Royal Rumble match history, the number one and 30th entrants were the final two participants. The Intercontinental Champion Gunther entered first, but Rhodes eliminated him to win his first men’s Royal Rumble match.

Cody Rhodes fans were disappointed that Rhodes failed to beat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 39. However, the American Nightmare participated in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble match as the 15th entrant. Once again, he was determined to finish the story.

Furthermore, Rhodes and CM Punk were the final two, slugging it out in the Rumble. Ultimately, Rhodes overcame the Second City Saint to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches. With the victory, Rhodes became the first back-to-back Royal Rumble match winner in 26 years.

3. Hulk Hogan

The highlight of the 1990 Royal Rumble match was the WWE Champion Hulk Hogan’s showdown with the Intercontinental Champion, The Ultimate Warrior. However, the Hulkster made history as he became the only reigning WWE Champion to date to win the Royal Rumble.

Photo Credit: By John McKeon – Flickr, CC BY-SA 2.0,

12 months later, Hogan once again featured in a Royal Rumble match. However, with the win, Hogan etched his name in the history books as the first man to win Royal Rumble matches in consecutive years.

2. The Heartbreak Kid entered the 1995 Royal Rumble match from the unenviable number one spot. However, it was a masterclass from Michaels, as the iconic one-foot-touching-the-floor spot was born at the ’95 edition of the Rumble.

Michaels eliminated eight wrestlers, lastly The British Bulldog, to win the 1995 Royal Rumble match. He became the first man to win the Rumble from the number one position.

Michaels was unable to unseat Diesel for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 11. A year later, the Heartbreak Kid was desperate for the Boyhood Dream to come true. Furthermore, Michaels had a stellar performance in the 1996 Royal Rumble match. He managed to eliminate eight wrestlers for the second consecutive year.

He got some revenge by dumping Diesel over the top rope to win his second consecutive Royal Rumble match. Michaels’ Boyhood Dream came true as he defeated Bret Hart for the WWE Championship in a 60-minute Iron Man match at WrestleMania 12.

1. However, his win was controversial as Bret Hart eliminated him from the Rumble, but the referee didn’t see it.

Austin took advantage, and he eliminated the Hitman to win the ’97 Rumble. However, a year later, Austin was public enemy number one in the 1998 Royal Rumble match. Austin entered 24th, and he cleaned out the house. He and The Rock were the final two competitors, and Austin eliminated The Rock to become the third man to win back-to-back Rumbles in successive years.

With the win, Austin challenged an injured Shawn Michaels in the main event of WrestleMania 14 for the WWE Championship. Austin prevailed to win his first WWE Championship. However, once again, Austin entered the 2001 Royal Rumble match, and the bout was star-studded.

Nevertheless, Austin eliminated Haku, Billy Gunn, and Kane to win the 2001 Royal Rumble match. Furthermore, Austin converted another Rumble win into the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 17, as he dethroned Rock for the gold in a No Disqualification match.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling<amp-ad data-block-on-consent="" width="300" height="600" layout="fixed" data-multi-size="300x250,300x600" data-multi-size-validation="false" type="doubleclick" data-slot="/15188745,22512265771/FS-lastwordonsports-AMP/AMP-2" data-enable-refresh="30" data-lazy-fetch="true" data-loading-strategy="1.25" rtc-config="{ "vendors": { "t13": { "TAG_ID": "4f799893-5665-4629-b0fc-8b97d3569fd6", "ACCOUNT_ID": "9a3c6c23-453a-4cba-b419-30b908f39a50" }, "aps": { "PUB_ID": "600", "PUB_UUID": "16268e26-dabe-4bf4-a28f-b8f4ee192ed3", "PARAMS": { "amp": "1" } }, "criteo": { "NETWORK_ID": "4905", "ZONE_ID": "1382491", "PUBLISHER_SUB_ID": "FS-lastwordonsports-AMP-2" }, "medianet": { "CID": "8CU8ZT2C4" } } }"></amp-ad>

Header photo – WikiMedia Creative Commons – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on the WWE Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns, and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
