Usually, in WWE, the Royal Rumble revolves around the theme and title matches that might close the show. Alongside those matchups, WWE adds undercard programs to bring some spice for the fans. For instance, WWE frequently added matches involving the tag team division. Specifically in the Attitude Era, the WWE Tag Team Championships would be put at stake.<\/p>\n

After the Invasion angle in WWE ended, both Bubba Ray and D-Von of the Dudley Boyz were back with the WWE as they were the champions. In early 2002, an upset occurred where Dudley Boyz lost to their little brother, Spike Dudley, and his partner, Tazz. Dudley Boyz were not planning to go out lightly. With the new managerial services of Stacy Keibler, it looked as if Bubba and D-Von were regaining the titles.<\/p>\n
At Royal Rumble 2002, the tag team rematch opened the show. Both teams were going back and forth in a fast-paced match. With mixed signals and errors made between Dudley Boyz and Keibler, Tazz took advantage by giving D-Von a “Tazzmission” to submit him and retain the tag team gold.<\/p>\n

In late 1997, The Legion of Doom became tag team champions once again. When it seemed that all was great for Animal and Hawk, things changed drastically. Unexpectedly, a new tag team of Road Dogg and Billy Gunn came into the picture, making The Legion of Doom’s lives frustrating. By doing so, Dogg and Gunn cheated to win the WWE Tag Team Titles from Animal and Hawk. This victory led to a rematch at the 1998 Royal Rumble.<\/p>\n
The match started with some heavy hitting from Animal and Hawk. Initially, the New Age Outlaws attempted to escape the match by trying to get counted out. Instead, Animal and Hawk chased them down to ensure there was a concise winning team. Unfortunately, New Age Outlaws gained the upper hand when they had Hawk handcuffed to the bottom rope, leaving Animal helpless.<\/p>\n
New Age Outlaws delivered a massive beatdown on Animal, where they hit him with chairshots, leading to a disqualification finish. This was one of those tag team matches where the storytelling mattered a whole lot more than the match itself, as this tag team rivalry began to escalate.<\/p>\n
