The Rumble is one of WWE’s most intriguing and revered concepts. The men’s version has been around for nearly 40 years. The winner is immortalized forever and quite frequently receives the main event spot at WrestleMania.

Last year, Jey Uso won the 2025 Men’s Rumble, beginning an inspirational journey that brought him the World Heavyweight Championship. Like many before him, Jey benefitted immensely from outlasting 29 other men. Several Hall of Famers have won the 30-man melee, including the Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, and Ric Flair.

Some legends like Hogan, Austin, HBK, and Edge have won multiple Rumbles, too. However, several all-time greats, despite having Hall of Fame-worthy careers, were unable to win the Men’s Royal Rumble. Here, we explore five such Superstars.

#5. Kane

Arguably considered the greatest Royal Rumble performer of all time, Kane is synonymous with the 30-man melee, yet the Big Red Machine never won the thing. The Mayor of Knox County has 46 eliminations to his name. The Hall of Famer had a career-defining performance during the 2001 Men’s Rumble, where he eliminated 11 competitors and finished as the runner-up.

Kane was a wrecking machine in the Rumble. He came close several times, making it to the final four multiple times during his storied career. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as if he would ever win the match because Kane has seemingly retired from pro wrestling. The Big Red Machine last entered the Rumble in 2021, where he eliminated two competitors.

WWE does call legends for a one-off appearance in the Rumble, but these seldom translate into a victory. Hence, Kane might appear for a pop and a few quick eliminations. However, a Rumble victory is almost out of the question.

#4. Kurt Angle

When one thinks of the greatest athletes to step into the squared circle, Kurt Angle’s name is bound to come up in the conversation. Multiple World Championships, Olympic Gold medals, and midcard titles, Angle accomplished it all in the competitive sports of amateur and professional wrestling.

However, Angle failed to add a Royal Rumble victory to his impressive resume. The WWE Hall of Famer came super close during the 2002 Men’s Rumble, where the eventual winner, Triple H, last eliminated him. He left WWE in 2006 and would return 11 years later for one final run.

Had the Olympic Gold Medalist remained in WWE during his peak physical years in the late 2000s, he may have won the Royal Rumble. Angle enjoys retired life today, but he would have hoped to add a Rumble win to his list of accolades.

#3. The Big Show

Although The Big Show believed for the longest time that he won the 2000 Men’s Royal Rumble, the history books list The Rock as the winner. WWE played this angle brilliantly into a major WrestleMania program. However, it robbed the World’s Largest Athlete of a Rumble victory, which would have further launched his career.

Show was also the runner-up in the 2004 Men’s Rumble. The legend was a regular staple in the 30-man melee, regularly entering in the late stages of the bout, and clearing the ring of the competition, often reaching the final four.

The World’s Largest Athlete has more than 30 eliminations to his name, and he was often the difference maker. His last Rumble appearance took place in 2017. Given that Show is currently signed to AEW, it doesn’t appear as if he will ever win the Rumble.

#2. CM Punk

A significant reason for the backlash against Jey Uso’s Royal Rumble win last year was that many expected CM Punk to win. The Second City Saint is nearing the tail end of his illustrious in-ring career, and there won’t be many more chances of adding a Rumble win to his resume.

Despite failing to win the Rumble last year, Punk managed to win the World Heavyweight Championship, and he begins 2026 on a high note as the World Champion. However, this automatically means that the Chicago native won’t be competing in the Men’s 30-man melee this year.

Considering he has some gas left in the tank, Punk is more likely than many of the aforementioned legends to win the Rumble before he hangs up the boots for good.

#1. Chris Jericho

Many fans expected Chris Jericho, who recently finished up his AEW contract, to return to WWE on the first RAW of 2026. However, Jericho was nowhere to be seen, leading many to assume that Y2J will be making his grand homecoming during the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble.

The future Hall of Famer has a prolific history in the Men’s Rumble. Y2J was the “Iron Man” almost every time he participated in the 30-man melee. The legend has spent nearly 5 hours in the match, but has failed to win the whole thing. He also finished as the runner-up in the 2012 Men’s Royal Rumble.

Photo Credit: By Anton Jackson – WWE House Show – Garrett Coliseum – 1/10/15, CC BY-SA 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=48587722

Y2J is heavily rumored to enter the 2026 Men’s Rumble this year as a surprise entrant.
