He started out as just Carmelo Hayes&#8217; sidekick. But over time, he grew more and more into the electrifying wrestler fans see today. He has captured many championships during his NXT tenure, including winning the NXT Championship twice and the NXT North American Championship once.<\/p>\n<p>The NXT-TNA partnership was especially good to him. Capturing the TNA Championship, he held it for 140 days. He has been super successful in his NXT tenure for sure. But now WWE has decided to call him up, making him a free agent. Will he sign with Monday Night Raw, or will he stick with Friday Night SmackDown?<\/p>\n<h2>Williams Makes a Great Case to Stay on SmackDown<\/h2>\n<p>Williams&#8217; first appearance was on the very first episode of NXT 2.0 four years ago. Hayes was obviously the more important one of the duo. But over time, that started to change. He was all alone, so what was he going to do? Was he going to flounder and eventually get released, or was he going to make those most of his situation? He chose to do the latter, which was an excellent decision by him. That decision transformed him into the multi-time NXT Champion and star everyone knows today.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever he walks to the ring, he also gets an extra heaping of excitement. Booker T ad-libs to his music, making his presentation stand out in a big way. All that was <a  href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Ftl586tCSkk?si=8StUh_sKEXORE9Jp\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">perfectly spelled out<\/a> to General Manager Nick Aldis and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes on the December 26, 2025 SmackDown.<\/p>\n<p>Mentioning the fact that he already has an offer on Raw, he put the pressure on Aldis to sign him first. That&#8217;s when Rhodes walked in, demanding to know if Drew McIntyre apologized and paid his fine for using the Claymore on referee Dan Engler. After hearing that he hadn&#8217;t, Aldis began yelling at him to control his emotions. That was when Williams came back into the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>He listed his many achievements as to why he deserved to be on SmackDown and face Rhodes. This was a great first introduction to Williams. Fans immediately knew of his accomplishments in NXT. He plead his case as to why he should be on SmackDown. Finally, he came face to face with a current World Champion in Rhodes. It&#8217;s clear WWE has major plans for him given his introduction.
