This capped off what was a fantastic year for the Mexican Luchador. Out of all of the wrestlers on the roster, and honestly, around the world, Bandido has had the best resume. He had the best matches and positioned himself as a crowd favorite.

The Wrestler of the Year is always contentious and subjective. Depending on who you ask, the criteria for their best wrestler of the year will be different. Quantity of matches, quality of matches, storytelling, and “getting over” with the fans are all categories that wrestling fans will consider when determining their wrestler of the year. Even the promotion, as myopic as that might seem, is a big qualification for someone’s vote.

However, regardless of how you slice it, Bandido has a claim on anyone’s list for best wrestler of 2025.

Bandido’s Resume

Many AEW great wrestlers have that claim in 2025: Adam Page, Jon Moxley, Will Ospreay, and Konosuke Takeshita. Who says the best wrestler of 2025 has to be a man? Toni Storm, Mercedes Moné, and Saya Kamitani have all made their case to be the wrestlers of the year as well. Yet, even with all of those great resumes, Bandido was still the best wrestler of 2025.

Since returning from his wrist injury in December 2024, Bandido has been on a generational run in 2025. He was part of arguably the best tag team of the year, winning the titles with Brody King back at Forbidden Door, where Brodido went on to hold the titles for 90 days. Bandido also retained the Ring of Honor World Championship, beating Chris Jericho at AEW Dynasty in April 2025. He has now had that title for 255-plus days. He made himself one of the most decorated men’s wrestlers of the year.

The Mexican Luchador has also been in some of the most jaw-dropping and gripping matches of the year. If you stack all of his tag-team and singles matches from 2025, which made us hoop and holler, the stack might be taller than Bandido himself. Not only that, but the Ring of Honor Champion has really endeared himself to the crowd. He has done the work to put himself in a position to be the first Mexican wrestler to win the AEW World Championship.

<iframe loading="lazy" title="A duel for the ROH World Title! Bandido had a year full of mind-bending matches, more than some wrestlers will have in an entire career. The Luchador out of Coahuila had some of the most memorable matches of the year, in a year that might be one of the best years for in-ring wrestling ever.

Bandido had five 5-star matches, just behind Mascara Dorada (6) and Will Ospreay (7). Bandido also had 25 (!) 4 to 4.75 star matches. All five of those matches came in during the second half of the year, starting in June. An absolute generational run.

Match ratings can be a divisive topic for internet wrestling fans. Just like the wrestler of the year, ratings are subjective. Not every match has the same parameters for what they consider a good match. However, Dave Meltzer’s match ratings are the industry standard for measuring match quality.

Bandido’s matches against Mascara Dorada brought down the house in AEW, Ring of Honor, and CMLL. All of Bandido’s matches don’t have to be listed here to prove how great a year he had. If you watched professional wrestling in any capacity this year, you would have heard of Bandido and one of his matches. However, the sheer number of quality matches he had in 2025 can’t be glossed over. English is his second language. When he’s on the microphone, it’s only in short bursts and small sentences. However, when he does speak, his heart, passion, and love for wrestling transcend language. Bandido’s wrestling style and energy endear him to fans. With this being the first year Bandido had a significant and consistent platform to present himself to the wrestling fans at large, he made a lasting impact. Wrestlers like Bandido thrive in companies like AEW because they can tell their stories in the ring. In WWE, wrestlers like Bandido aren’t given much of a platform. In AEW, when given the chance, Bandido and other Luchadores can thrive and find a different level of success.

That in-ring storytelling of grit, conditioning, and perseverance is front and center. He did this in two divisions — tag team and singles. The “odd couple” story of Brodido gave fans a quirky yet exhilarating tale to sink their teeth into in 2025. Going at this pace will be tough moving forward.
