Blake Monroe became NXT Women’s North American Champion at NXT Gold Rush last month. As the champion, she had a discussion with NXT General Manager Ava about how she would conduct her title defenses. It was decided that she would have an open challenge.<\/p>\n

On the December 9, 2025<\/a>, episode of NXT, Thea Hail came out to challenge Monroe. However, the match never actually started<\/a>. After a surprise attack, Monroe tapped out to Hail. But that didn’t count, as the bell never rang. It was later announced that the actual match would happen the next week. Would Hail’s energy be too much to overcome, or would Monroe walk away still champion?<\/p>\n

Monroe and Hail both came into the match<\/a> with definite reasons to get the victory. For Monroe, this match was her first title defense for her first championship won in NXT. Losing it would definitely make her very angry. For Hail, winning would mean everything to her. Like Tatum Paxley, she has gone through significant hardships over the past couple of years. The rise and fall of Chase University is something that she’ll never forget. Winning and becoming champion would help her make those tough times worth it.<\/p>\n

This was a good match, with both women giving it their all to accomplish their goals. Anything less than their desired outcome would lead to some strong emotions. A significant “Let’s Go Thea!” chant rang out throughout the Performance Center at the start of the match. It was clear who the audience was getting behind. That didn’t affect Monroe at all though, as she gave Hail a sidewalk slam. That made the latter kick out easily.<\/p>\n

They brawled both inside and outside the ring, desperate to pin the other woman. The one mistake Monroe made was trying to headbutt Hail. She accidentally took some damage as well, throwing her off. That was when Hail realized the door was wide open for her. When that happened, she took full control of the match.<\/p>\n

After a flurry of offensive moves, she applied the pin to Monroe. That ended in a kick out, or did it? Widespread confusion descended upon the Performance Center audience. No one knew whether Monroe kicked out or not. But the referee signalled for a winner, and it wasn’t Monroe. Hail ended the match as the new NXT Women’s North American Champion. Later on, Monroe said she wanted her title back and the referee made a bad decision. Hail finally won, but there will definitely be debates and a rematch in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
