We have gotten some great moments with both PLEs and television programming stepping up to the plate. This WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII will be the last, and perhaps greatest, show for WWE in 2025.

Four matches will highlight the show, each with its own blend of young stars taking on the veterans. A showcase of WWE’s current stars taking on their next crop of wrestlers. Each match has its own draw, but naturally, the main event will take centre stage. It will feature the end of a WWE career that has no equal.

The world will be on the edge of its seat when Saturday hits. The battles are hard to predict, but they will be a lot of fun to watch. There are many finishes possible, but only these four will happen. Here are some predictions for Saturday Night’s Main Event

Bayley vs Sol Ruca

This is going to be a battle between two of the biggest babyfaces in NXT history. The story of Bayley and Sol Ruca has followed similar paths. Both had all the potential in the world, along with the support of the fans. Through hard work and perseverance, Bayley has become the mega star that Ruca hopes to emulate. It is going to be a ton of fun seeing these two great wrestlers create some magic at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

There will be a fun contrast in styles here. Ruca is more of a high-flyer, using her surfer and acrobatics background to drive her move set. Bayley implores a move grounded style, so it will be fun to see her try to keep Ruca grounded. Bayley is also seasoned enough that she will be able to work through the inexperienced NXT star. It will be a wonderful learning experience for Ruca and a fun match for us to watch.

Both women can walk away with the victory here, but it would mean more for Sol Ruca to score the upset. Bayley losing wouldn’t hurt her character, and in fact, it could aid in the progression of her mentally unstable character. It would be a win-win all around for Sol Ruca to walk away with the win here. Winner: Sol Ruca

World Tag Team Championship Match: AJ Styles & Dragon Lee vs Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater

A ripple was recently thrown into the pond when it was announced that this exhibition match was going to be for the World Tag Team Championships, adding even more excitement around what should be a fantastic tag team match.

Both teams have shown incredible chemistry, and it’s that chemistry that will push this match into greatness territory. This is going to be a phenomenal back-and-forth match that will have the quickest pace of the evening. It will be a blast watching these high-flyers put together some great spots that will wow the crowd.

Evans and Slater have teamed before, but it still feels like a thrown-together tandem. The showcase of their talents will be a great highlight, but having them win the match is cutting the legs out from under Styles and Dragon Lee. A team that is just starting to put together an impressive reign and needs this win.

Winners: AJ Styles & Dragon Lee

Cody Rhodes vs Oba Femi

On Saturday, the WWE Champion will go to battle with the NXT Champion. It’s not often that WWE books a match like this, providing us with a fresh matchup between two men who have never met in the ring. It will be glorious to see Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi stand across from one another, and the action should be amazing.

There are similar styles here, with a more physical move set on both sides. It’s going to be a slower-paced match than others on the card, but that’s going to allow for an interesting story to unfold. Clearly, Oba Femi has a size and strength advantage, and Rhodes will have to resort to tactics that some may deem unsavoury. We could see more of a heel character from the WWE Champion than we are used to.

It’s hard to pick a winner here. Both men could conceivably win the contest, as neither man’s championship is on the line. We are going to go out on a limb and pick Oba Femi to score the surprise win. Winning this match will give him more momentum when he moves to the main roster, and could push Rhodes towards the ever-awaited heel turn.

Winner: Oba Femi

John Cena vs Gunther

This is the match that everyone wants to see. It’s our last chance to see John Cena don the jean shorts and sprint his way to the ring. It will be an emotional match, but one that will have the entire world on the edge of their seats.

We are going to see a slow contest; let’s face that fact. John Cena is not what he used to be, and Gunther is one to grind his opponents. This is going to be a David-versus-Goliath type of story with John Cena refusing to give up to the onslaught of Gunther. Cena rarely taps out, and we can be sure Gunther is going to want to end the match on that note. A slow pace, yes, but a captivating story.

It’s John Cena’s last match, so he has to win. Well, that’s up for debate, as we all know that Cena wants to give back to the business that gave him so much. The world wants to see John Cena leave the ring as the victor, but that’s not going to happen. Gunther is not going to tap Cena out, but he is going to get the pin. It will make Gunther an even bigger heel than he is now and push him into legendary status. The fans might hate it, but Gunther is going to win.

Winner: Gunther

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME) XLII, John Cena, and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
