Wrestlers attempt to eliminate the opposing team members one by one in order to win. There have been so many Survivor Series matches throughout history that it’s easy to assume everyone has scored at least one elimination. But that’s not true! Here are five WWE wrestlers who competed in elimination matches at Survivor Series without ever eliminating anyone.

Dean Ambrose

Our list kicks off with one of the most surprising names: former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose, aka AEW’s Jon Moxley. Dean Ambrose debuted in WWE as a member of The Shield at Survivor Series 2012, but that was the end of his success at that event. Ambrose was in two traditional elimination matches throughout his WWE career… and was the first man eliminated on both occasions!

One year after their iconic debut, The Shield teamed up with The Real Americans to take on Cody Rhodes, Goldust, Rey Mysterio & The Usos. The future WWE & AEW Champion only lasted two short minutes as Cody eliminated him. In 2016, Ambrose represented Team SmackDown. While Ambrose lasted 16 minutes this time around, the result was the same – he was the first man eliminated, courtesy of Braun Strowman.

Sycho Sid

Next up, we have another former WWE Champion who somehow never scored an elimination at Survivor Series: Sycho Sid. While the big man only competed in one traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match in his career, it’s still hard to believe he didn’t pin anyone, especially when you look at the names involved in that bout.

Sid teamed up with Shawn Michaels, The British Bulldog & Ahmed Johnson, and they faced Razor Ramon, Yokozuna, Owen Hart & Dean Douglas. Sid was the first member of his team to be eliminated after Shawn Michaels accidentally delivered Sweet Chin Music to his own partner, allowing Razor Ramon to pin Sid.

Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe might’ve never won a world title in WWE, but he’s someone you’d expect to score at least one elimination at Survivor Series. Joe represented Team Raw against Team SmackDown two years in a row. Shockingly, he was the first Raw wrestler eliminated on both occasions, leaving without a single elimination.

In 2017, the former TNA World Champion had a solid performance. Samoa Joe lasted 18 minutes before being eliminated by John Cena. The following year saw Joe get eliminated in just 35 seconds. He ate a Claymore Kick from Drew McIntyre almost as soon as the opening bell rang.

By Shared Account – This image has been extracted from another file, CC BY-SA 2.0,

Finlay

Fit Finlay is another name who could’ve easily eliminated someone due to his intense and physical wrestling style. Finlay competed in three traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Matches in the late 2000s and had respectable performances in all of those bouts, but still couldn’t eliminate anyone in any of them.

Finlay’s Survivor Series debut happened in 2006. The Team Big Show vs Team Cena match came down to Finlay & Big Show against John Cena & Bobby Lashley. The latter pinned Finlay. One year later, Finlay was the second-to-last member of his team to be eliminated again. In 2009, he went down following a vicious Brogue Kick from Sheamus.

Gunther

It’s easy to forget Gunther competed in a traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match. Back in 2019, Gunther (still known as Walter at the time) represented NXT against Raw and SmackDown. Walter was an absolute machine on NXT UK. Thus, fans were excited to see the then-United Kingdom Champion perform on a big stage like Survivor Series.

For some reason, Walter was the first man eliminated less than three minutes into the match. That booking decision sounds worse when Shorty G – who was getting treated as a joke – was in the match! Surely poor Chad Gable could’ve taken that shocking Claymore Kick from Drew McIntyre rather than the unstoppable Austrian.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WikiMedia Creative Commons – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2025 and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
