This is the second signature event that an MLB venue has hosted this year, and if history is any indication, the performers will be stealing the show, rather than stealing bases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the WWE once again aiming for a grand slam, let\u2019s take a look at the five greatest matches to take place at MLB parks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<h2><b> Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior (SkyDome, Toronto)<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WrestleMania 6 took place on April 1, 1990, at SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario, home of the Toronto Blue Jays. After crossing paths at the Royal Rumble, WWF Champion Hulk Hogan issued \u201cThe Ultimate Challenge\u201d to WWF Intercontinental Champion The Ultimate Warrior to determine which superstar would be the most dominant force in the WWF. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was, and still is, the only time in WWE history where the World title and the Intercontinental Championship were defended in the same match.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first WrestleMania to be held outside the United States, this matchup was electric based on the sheer starpower alone. The fact that it was also a Winner Takes All match made the stakes extremely high, as the loser would walk away with nothing, while the winner would hold both title belts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation, as the crowd was divided as to who they wanted to see emerge victorious. Following a long battle, The Ultimate Warrior defeated Hogan by delivering a Big Splash, followed by a pinfall, the first time Hogan was pinned clean since 1981. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Becoming the first superstar to hold both the WWF Championship and the Intercontinental Championship simultaneously, the win cemented Warrior as the new face of the company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h2><b> The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan (Rogers Centre, Toronto)\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WrestleMania 18 saw one of the most anticipated matches in WWE history, as this \u201cIcon vs. Icon\u201d bout took place on March 17, 2002, at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Hulk Hogan, immersed in his heel \u201cHollywood\u201d persona, would take on The Rock, who was at the height of his stardom and fame in WWE. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heading into this matchup, The Rock was one of the biggest draws in WWE, while Hogan was nearing the end of his career, making his first WrestleMania appearance in 9 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The nostalgia of having these two icons face for the first and only time in a singles matchup was not lost on fans, and the storyline lead-up to the event was insane, only adding to the anticipation. \u201cThe Hulkster\u201d and &#8220;The Brahma Bull\u201d clashed in what may not be seen as the most technical bout, but what is arguably the most electric, goosebump-inducing matchup in WrestleMania history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_147292\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-147292\" style=\"width: 959px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-147292 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/11\/11-75.jpg\" alt=\"A graphic for WWE matches that happened in MLB parks.\" width=\"959\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/11\/11-75.jpg 959w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/11\/11-75-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/11\/11-75-768x577.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 959px) 100vw, 959px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-147292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Credit: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the things that made this match iconic was the way both performers responded to the crowd. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite Hogan being the heel, the crowd overwhelmingly cheered for him over The Rock, causing both superstars to pivot mid-match: Hogan began executing some of his signature babyface moves, while The Rock subtly responded at times as a heel. The match resulted in The Rock winning cleanly, picking up one of the greatest victories of his career and solidifying him as the new face of the industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h2><b> John Cena vs. The Rock (Sun Life Stadium, Miami)\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sun Life Stadium, the temporary home of the Miami Marlins in Florida, would see an iconic battle billed as a \u201cOnce in a Lifetime\u201d match, take place at WrestleMania 28 on April 1, 2012. John Cena and The Rock would face each other individually for the first time in their respective careers, in the first one-on-one match \u201cThe Great One\u201d would appear in in seven years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This bout would become legendary for several reasons. For starters, it was recognized as a generation vs. generation match between two icons of the sport. In an unprecedented move, not seen prior to or since, the matchup was announced a full 14 months in advance during a Monday Night Raw episode on April 4, 2011, with Cena challenging The Rock to a match at WrestleMania the following year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The buildup over the course of the year involved incredible promo battles due to the genuine tension between the two, which raised the stakes even higher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The crowd\u2019s energy for this matchup was electric, and kept pace with the intensity that took place within the ring. Despite Cena dominating for the first 10 minutes, The Rock emerged victorious in front of his home crowd after delivering a Rock Bottom. Although the bout was one of the most commercially successful to date, it would lose some of its legendary status when Cena and The\u00a0 Rock would face each other just a year later at WrestleMania 29.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h2><b> The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Edge &amp; Christian (Astrodome, Houston)\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The stage would be set in Houston, Texas, on April 1, 2001, for WrestleMania 17, considered one of the best WrestleManias of all time. Despite the Houston Astros relocating down the road two years prior, this bout must be included due to its legendary status and the fact that the Astros played there for 35 years.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fight was only the second TLC match in WWE, the first to take place at a WrestleMania, and included the three best tag teams in WWE at the time. This carryover match from SummerSlam 2000 not only did not disappoint, but was even more incredible than the first showdown.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTLC II\u201d\u00a0 is widely recognized as the greatest TLC match of all time, with some considering it the greatest ever in WWE and some of the most iconic moments included Jeff Hardy\u2019s Swanton Bomb from 25 feet at the top of a ladder down onto the Dudley Boyz, and Edge\u2019s Spear to Jeff Hardy as he was hanging onto the two tag team titles 20 feet in the air. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each wrestler went through at least one table during the match, with nine tables being completely destroyed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The non-stop action made for edge-of-your-seat viewing and resulted in Edge and Christian once again capturing the Tag Team Championship belts. The bout was so spectacular and violent that WWE scaled back on this specific format due to the physical toll it took on the superstars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h2><b> The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (Astrodome, Houston)\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WrestleMania 17 on April 1, 2001, was the first live event that WWE hosted inside an MLB park in 11 years. Due to this factor alone, \u201cThe Grandest Stage of Them All&#8221; was highly anticipated, but also having not one, but two babyface titans in the main event with Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock was the icing on the cake. The bout is one of the most talked-about matches in the company\u2019s history, and for good reason.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The wheel was set into motion for this matchup following Austin\u2019s win at the Royal Rumble, while The Rock was the reigning WWF Champion. After missing almost a year due to neck surgery, Austin was desperate to regain the title, especially since the bout would take place in his home state. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The match itself was a brutal one, as it included a surprise no disqualification stipulation added right before introductions that made things even more intense. The two would battle back and forth with both drawing blood before WWF CEO Vince McMahon came ringside to observe the match. What would take place next is recognized as one of the most shocking WrestleMania moments in history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accepting a steel chair from his once nemesis, Austin would deliver 16 unprotected shots to The Rock before securing the pinfall for the win. The crowd was stunned to realize Austin had turned heel, confirmed when he shook hands with McMahon after the match. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This bout is seen as the finale to the \u201cAttitude Era\u201d, and the intense in-ring action, as well as the well-crafted storyline both before and during the match, earned it top honours as one of the best WWE pay-per-views of all time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best WWE matches to take place in MLB parks also mark some of the most iconic bouts in the history of the company. By using these massive venues, normally reserved for \u201cAmerica\u2019s pastime\u201d, WWE sets the stage for its superstars to do what fans have come to expect: hit it out of the park.
