November 22, 1990, was the date Undertaker made his WWE debut at Survivor Series 1990. 30 years later, ironically, on November 22, 2020, The Undertaker marked his retirement from professional wrestling. Furthermore, Undertaker has been involved in some iconic moments at the November-exclusive PLE. The Undertaker has featured in some memorable matches at Survivor Series, but as great as he was, he was not exempt from contesting some stinkers at Survivor Series.

2025 marks 35 years since Undertaker’s WWE debut, and during Survivor Series season, Undertaker has a YouTube channel where wrestling fans can relive and revisit some of Undertaker’s matches.

Survivor Series has been kind to Undertaker over the years. He won his first WWE Championship at the event and participated in several memorable gimmick matches during the show’s history. He’s unbeaten in traditional Survivor Series elimination matches, and he’s competed in 18 matches overall. No one in WWE history has competed in more matches at Survivor Series than Undertaker, who boasts a healthy 13-5 win-loss record. This match was historic as it was the first singles match in the history of Survivor Series, and the first time that the coveted WWE Championship was defended at the event.

Undertaker incorporated a slow, methodical style at the time, and the match wasn’t great. The Hulkster showcased his resiliency by springing up to his feet immediately after Undertaker nailed him with a devastating Tombstone Piledriver. Undertaker’s manager, Paul Bearer, didn’t hesitate to get involved, as did Ric Flair. Ultimately, Undertaker captured his first WWE Championship after Flair brought a chair into the ring, and he Tombstoned Hogan onto it.

9. Best: The Undertaker Vs. Furthermore, the Phenom and the World’s Largest Athlete clashed in a casket match, 12 months prior in 2008, with Undertaker triumphant. Unsurprisingly, Jeri-Show worked as a cohesive unit.

Their triple threat match was entertaining, and the infamous line when a fan told Jericho to go back to Toronto, and Jericho responded by telling them that he’s from Winnipeg, happened during this titular bout. Both Show and Jericho were desperate to win the World Heavyweight Championship, and their alliance broke down. In the closing stages, Jericho attempted the Codebreaker on Show, but Show blocked it, laying him out with his patented KO Punch. Undertaker seized the opportunity presented to him by retaining the World Heavyweight Championship with Hell’s Gate.

8. Worst: The Undertaker Vs. Heidenreich – 2004

Heidenreich proved to be a thorn in The Undertaker’s side as he cost The Undertaker from winning a fifth WWE Championship in Undertaker’s Last Ride match with JBL at No Mercy 2004. A month later, Heidenreich squared off with the Phenom at Survivor Series 2004, and their match was underwhelming. Their 15-minute match was a slog for fans to endure as Heidenreich was not on Undertaker’s level.

Not even Paul Heyman could save Heidenreich’s WWE career under his guidance to be successful. There was always going to be one definitive winner in this bout, with Undertaker seeing off Heyman’s latest client with a Tombstone.

7. The Dream Team – 1990

“The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase teased that his Million Dollar Team at Survivor Series 1990 had a mystery partner. DiBiase led The Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine. However, DiBiase unveiled The Undertaker as their mystery partner. Undertaker made his WWE debut, and there was no fanfare; he marched down the aisle with Brother Love in tow as his manager. Fans were in awe of what they were witnessing, with some fans legitimately scared. On the other side of the ring were Dusty Rhodes, Koko B. Ware, and the WWE Tag Team Champions, The Hart Foundation.

Undertaker made an instant impact as he eliminated Koko B. Ware with a jaw-dropping Tombstone. He scored another elimination for the Million Dollar Team by eliminating Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes laid his eyes on Brother Love, and Undertaker got himself counted out as he fought Rhodes on the outside. The Million Dollar Team triumphed with DiBiase seeing off Bret Hart at the end.

6. Worst: The Undertaker Vs. Mr. McMahon – 2003

The chairman of the board, Mr. McMahon, continuously made Undertaker’s life a misery by costing him the WWE Championship at No Mercy 2003. Undertaker clashed with Brock Lesnar in a Biker Chain match for the WWE Title, and McMahon halted Undertaker from winning the title. Nevertheless, Undertaker defeated Brock Lesnar and Big Show in a handicap match, where he earned the right to pick his opponent. Many thought that he’d opt to compete for the WWE Championship again, but McMahon taunted him, and he announced that he’d face McMahon in a Buried Alive match at Survivor Series 2003.

Undertaker dominated the bout as expected, and McMahon was bleeding profusely. He carried McMahon to the gravesite, but there was an explosion. His brother, Kane, interfered, aiding McMahon in defeating Undertaker. This match was significant as it was Undertaker’s final match as the American Badass returning as the Deadman at WrestleMania 20.

5. Best: The Undertaker Vs. Mankind – 1996

The rivalry between The Phenom and Mankind is one of the greatest in WWE history. Mankind’s intensity matched up with Undertaker, and their styles meshed. At Survivor Series 1996, Undertaker’s former manager, Paul Bearer, was in a shark cage erected above the ring. This bout often gets lost in the shuffle with their iconic Hell in a Cell match at King of the Ring 1998 taking all of the plaudits.

Undertaker targeted Mankind’s hand, preventing him from locking in the Mandible Claw. Their match inside the hallowed halls of Madison Square Garden was competitive. Undertaker debuted a new leather attire, and Undertaker ensured that he remained unbeaten at Survivor Series by winning his seventh consecutive match at the event. He sealed Mankind’s fate with the Tombstone Piledriver, bringing their contest to a close.

4. Worst: The Undertaker Vs. Kane – 1998

Another one of The Phenom’s all-time great rivals is, of course, his brother Kane. He and Kane had two solid encounters at WrestleMania 14 and an inferno match a month later. However, they failed to recreate that magic with their bouts in the fall of 1998, becoming increasingly boring. Their quarterfinal match in the Deadly Game tournament at Survivor Series 1998 to crown a new WWE Champion fell way short of expectations.

The match was sluggish, and one of their worst matchups against each other. Nevertheless, Undertaker continued his quest to regain the WWE Championship as he advanced to the semifinals after executing a Tombstone on his younger brother, and Paul Bearer held down Kane’s foot, preventing him from kicking out.

Photo by Xander Hieken, CC BY-SA 2.0 via Wikimedia Commons

3. The Alliance’s WWE Champion Steve Austin, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Kurt Angle, and Shane McMahon were on the other side of the ring. The match was jam-packed with stars, and it’s one of the greatest traditional Survivor Series elimination matches in history.

Undertaker failed to register an elimination in his third and final appearance in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match. This was called a coffin match, and the only casket match where you had to pin your opponent before winning. The Deadman battled the Ugandan Giant Kamala in one of the worst casket matches in WWE history.

Undertaker clocked Kamala with an urn and pinned him, bringing the curtain down in their underwhelming feud. Undertaker competed in his eighth Hell in a Cell match, and he was looking to regain the Big Gold Belt in the main event.

Undertaker and Batista knocked it out of the park in an outstanding Hell in a Cell match.
