The PLE will take over San Diego’s Petco Park on November 30, making it the first installment to be held outdoors in a stadium. It will also be the 39th show under the Survivor Series banner.

Four matches, including two WarGames bouts, have been confirmed for the show. With a week remaining, WWE could add another match or two. Nonetheless, the build towards Survivor Series: WarGames has been solid, and excitement levels are high.

In celebration of the rich history of Survivor Series and the hype heading into the show, let’s take a look at four intriguing matchups heading into this year’s show.

#4. The WWE Championship Has Not Been Contested at the Event Since 2019

The last time the coveted WWE Championship was defended at Survivor Series was in 2019, when Brock Lesnar successfully defended the championship against Rey Mysterio in a quick title bout.

In the following two editions of Survivor Series, WWE’s focus shifted to brand supremacy, resulting in champion vs. champion matches. Drew McIntyre, WWE Champion, faced Roman Reigns, Universal Champion, in 2020. At Survivor Series 2011, Reigns, still the Universal Champion, battled WWE Champion Big E.

Heading into Survivor Series 2022, Reigns was the Undisputed Unified WWE Universal Champion, and he competed in the Men’s WarGames match. The following year, the Tribal Chief sat out of the event. Last year, Cody Rhodes, the Unified WWE Champion, also missed the show.

The American Nightmare will also compete in WarGames this year. Thus, for the sixth consecutive year, the WWE Championship will not be defended at Survivor Series.

#3. Jey Uso Has Competed in Every WarGames Match on the Main Roster

Since 2022, Survivor Series has become home to the WarGames match. Two are held on each show, one for the men and the other for the women. Interestingly, “Main Event” Jey Uso has competed in every Men’s WarGames match to have taken place on the main roster.

More importantly, Uso was on the winning team. In 2022, during the height of The Bloodline’s dominance, Jey pinned Kevin Owens to win the match for his family. The following year, he successfully teamed up with Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, and Randy Orton to defeat The Judgment Day and Drew McIntyre inside WarGames.

Last year, Jey represented the OG Bloodline during the family civil war. As fans may recall, the OG Bloodline and CM Punk defeated The New Bloodline, led by Solo Sikoa.

For the fourth straight year, “Main Event” Jey Uso will step inside WarGames again. Considering his record in the match, he would be feeling very confident.

#2. John Cena will Compete at Survivor Series for the first First-time Since 2017

Survivor Series 2025 will mark John Cena’s final PLE appearance, and his second-to-last one as an active competitor. The Never Seen 17 will defend his newly won Intercontinental Championship against “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio in the latter’s hometown of San Diego.

Interestingly, Cena has not competed at the show since Survivor Series 2017, where he was part of Team SmackDown. Brock Lesnar’s Last Competed in a Televised WWE Tag Team Match was in 2004

In a shocking twist, Paul Heyman revealed Brock Lesnar as the final member of his team at Survivor Series: WarGames. The Beast will team with Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, Bronson Reed, and Bron Breakker.

If this seems odd, it has every reason to be because Lesnar is a solitary force of nature that conquers the locker room alone. In fact, his last tag team partner was Big Show in February 2004, when they unsuccessfully teamed to face John Cena and Eddie Guerrero.

Two years later, he teamed with Shinsuke Nakamura in Japan. The streak almost broke on the night after WrestleMania 39, when Lesnar feigned allegiance to Cody Rhodes and became his partner for a match against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa. This was a trap as the Beast destroyed Rhodes before the match even began.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on John Cena 2 and other news stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
