Eventually, the Almighty had had enough and tossed the shrieking Ricochet into his GOA allies. Like an incensed bull, Lashley charged, powering out of a sly roll-up pin. Despite his agile opponent’s maneuvering, Lashley spiked him, priming him for a Spear to finish the match.

(The Demand and the Hurt Syndicate have run it back so, so many times this year, yet they manage to find some way for it all to pay off.)

Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata backstage segment

Joe delivered a scathing promo to Hangman Adam Page. He then propped up his teammate Shibata, claiming that The Wrestler will avenge Powerhouse Hobbs.

Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) & Josh Alexander) defeated SkyFlight (Scorpio Sky, Dante Martin, & Darius Martin)

Renee Paquette attempted to interview the Young Bucks, but Callis sauntered in, interrupting her with another offer to announce them to the ring, which they obliged despite looking uncomfortable.

Dante and Nick were the first legal men. They wrestled to a standstill until Alexander and Darius tagged in. The Waling Weapon slammed Darius around with a suplex but ate a dropkick. The Martins faceplanted Matt onto their knees. Alexander rampaged through the ropes, stumbling Sky to the outside. Alexander and Nick disagreed on how to handle Sky, with the latter seeming hesitant. Darius laid out the Bucks on the outside. Dante sprang out of the Bucks’ tight grip with a dropkick. Having had enough, Alexander wrenched Dante to the middle of the ring with an Ankle Lock. Cinching in a leg hold to torture Dante’s calf, Alexander stood victorious after his prey tapped out.

Post-match: Don Callis congratulated his team and brought out the rest of his Family. After supplying them with Alexander and their old EVP entrance, Callis suggested they join his team.

(Fun bout, and a great reason to remind people why Scorpio Sky and Top Flight belong on the roster.)

Kenny Omega returned

Sprinting to the ring to decimate Alexander, Omega faltered when the Bucks attempted to intervene. Alexander and Callis kicked at the hurt Omega and urged the Bucks to join in. For a moment, they hesitated, yet prepared to strike; Jack Perry and Luchasaurus of Jurassic Express came to his aid as the dejected Bucks stood back with an energetic Alexander.

Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale backstage segment

Cameron and Nightingale issued their excitable grievances to the Sisters of Sin before professing their dedication to the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships.

Bob Caudle Tribute

Tony Schiavone provided a heartfelt yet concise memorial to the late Caudle. A graphic aired immediately after.

Shelton Benjamin defeated Speedball Mike Bailey

Shaking hands before the bout, Benjamin soon found himself overwhelmed with a cyclone of kicks from Bailey. Baiting Benjamin into the ringpost, Bailey took advantage with some more kicks. He retaliated by thrusting Bailey into the barricades. Bailey engaged Benjamin with an armbar, which the taller athlete transitioned into an ankle lock. Benjamin toyed with Bailey, stretching him until MVP pressured him to hurry up and end the match. Bailey tried another comeback with an armbar again, this time broken by Benjamin’s own strength, flinging the smaller opponent across the floor. Disorienting Benjamin with a hurricanrana and DDT. Benjamin escaped a 10-count en route back to the ring and survived a top rope Moonsault. Bailey soared as Benjamin flung him off, yelling, “Get off me!”

Referee Paul Turner slowed the pace after a pin by Benjamin was interrupted by Bailey meagerly lifting his shoulder slightly. A ruinous German suplex and superkick combo lent the pinfall victory to Benjamin.

(Benjamin and Bailey are one-of-a-kind talents. Sometimes I wonder what it would look like if they brought a feud to a PPV, just the two of them.)

Death Riders (Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli) defeated Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong

The illegal Cassidy and Moxley brawled to the barricade while the legal Strong and Castagnoli battled in the ring. The two Death Riders ganged up on Strong, with Moxley dragging his head along the top rope. They subsequently robbed Cassidy of a chance to slow their momentum. The denim-clad wrestler finally managed to DDT Moxley and surprised Castagnoli with a flying crossbody and Stundog Millionaire. Cassidy sank his hands in his pockets and dove into the Death Riders, toppling them like dominoes.

Opting for a Giant Swing, Castagnoli instead nearly fell into a roll-up. He succeeded on the second attempt, thudding Cassidy disastrously in the corner. Cassidy responded with a Diamond DDT. Strong dropped Moxley with a powerbomb and tortured him with a Stronghold. Castagnoli and Moxley nearly coordinated their efforts, but Strong dispatched them, crushing Moxley with a Superplex. Yuta ragebaited Cassidy from the outside, leading to a chase. Moxley took this opportunity to catch Cassidy and render him unconscious with a Bulldog Choke following Castagnoli’s European Uppercut.

Post-match: Kyle O’Reilly rescued Strong and Cassidy and went straight to haunting Moxley’s leg with a submission. Though the match was over, Mxoley tapped desperately. The Death Riders momentarily stopped O’Reilly, but he went right back at it as Cassidy and Strong slid to his aid. Strong then issued a challenge at Full Gear against Jon Moxley in a No Holds Barred Match.

(Action-packed tag match that felt it could’ve gone anyway at any moment. Good stuff.)

Kenny Omega and Jurassic Express issued a match against Josh Alexander and Young Bucks

An irate and heavy-breathing Omega challenged Josh Alexander and Young Bucks for a $1,000 Match at Full Gear. Jack Perry nodded in agreement and almost accidentally hit Luchasaurus with his shovel when leaving the camera’s perspective. Luchasaurus snarled and growled.

Timeless Love Bombs (Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa) defeated Alex Windsor & Riho

Riho and Shirakawa began the match, with each slithering out of the other’s moves. Windsor circled her friend, turned rival, Storm, before they locked up. Storm and Windsor traded arm drags, resulting in the latter flattening the former with a clothesline. Storm dizzied Windsor with a series of Snapmares before planting Shirakawa in a Tornado Lateral Press. Windsor fired back with a Cannonball. Shirakawa struck Riho with a backfist and knotted her in a Figure Four Leglock. Riho shifted this, but Storm flipped it back over in Shirakawa’s favor. Storm and Windsor brawled while the submission was applied; their resounding headbutt and subsequent fall broke up the hold.

Evading a Sharpshooter by Windsor, Storm suplexed the Brit with a kick assist from Shirakawa. Storm Zero on Windsor gave the Timeless Love Bombs the pinfall victory.

(Fun match, with the crowd immediately won over by Toni and Mina’s entrance.)

Kyle Fletcher and Mark Briscoe’s civil discussion

Fletcher boasted his wins over Briscoe and the conditions for their upcoming Full Gear match. Reminding Briscoe that if he lost, he’d have to join the Don Callis Family, Briscoe assured him he’d win because losing was not an option.

Kazuchika Okada and Hechicero assaulted Briscoe from behind. Fletcher thanked Okada, who gleefully continued his attempts to soften the Aussie on aligning with him instead of Konosuke Takeshita.

Pac apologized to Darby Allin

Questioning the whereabouts of Allin, apologizing if he’d gone too far during Blood and Guts, Pac challenged him to a simple match with no weapons.

Hangman Adam Page defeated Katsuyori Shibata

Page ambushed Shibata mid-entrance, tossing him into the barricades, much to Joe’s chagrin on commentary. Battering Shibata’s head on the commentary desk, he suffered a big boot for his troubles, much to Joe and Schiavone’s amusement. (I’m sure it was nervousness on Schiavone’s part.) Shibata planted a chair, setting up Page for a clobbering on the black metal seat. Aiming for a dropkick, Shibata found himself in Page’s seat before being kicked over. Backbreaker and a lariat from Page returned Shibata to the mat. Shibata quelled Page’s confidence with a suplex to the floor.

Bouncing off the ropes, Page leapt with a lariat that sent Shibata to the floor. Throughout the match, Page and Joe shared tense staredowns. Shibata’s sleeperhold trounced a Deadeye attempt from Page. Page escaped Shibata’s signature dropkick, but suffered a low-blow. Juji gatame applied, Shibata’s hopes of tapping Page out were dashed with a rope break. Undeterred, Shibata held an Ankle Lock on the cowboy champion, who slipped out of his boot and silenced The Wrestler with a lariat.

Post-match: As the Collision hour started, Page informed Joe that he was alone in that moment. He stated he wanted Joe to remember that he took out Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs. Furthermore, he added he was not afraid to replicate the level of violence he had when facing Swerve Strickland in a steel cage years ago.

FTR addressed BroDido

Stokely Hathaway and Dax Harwood listed what has made FTR an important tag team within AEW, pointing to them as a reason BroDido wouldn’t walk out of Full Gear the victors.

Megan Bayne & Marina Shafir defeated TayJay (Tay Melo & Anna Jay)

Shair made quick work of dashing Melo’s hopes of an easy start with her grappling abilities. Bayne struggled for a while after being suplexed by TayJay. However, she responded with a lariat to the tag team. Jay made a hot tag to almost wear out Shafir; the Death Rider’s sturdiness prevented any plans Jay had in stock. Melo suplexed Shafir into the corner and locked up Bayne for a kick courtesy of Jay. In unison, TayJay flipped their opponents over and unwisely attempted guillotine chokes that transitioned into suplexes. Jay sought a Sleeper Hold on Bayne, only for Shafir to pry them apart and put Jay to sleep with Mother’s Milk.

Post-match: Timeless Love Bombs addressed Bayne and Shafir. Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa issued a Taipei Death Match challenge. Storm informed Jon Moxley that he would urinate himself with blood after what they would do to his “little women”.

Kris Statlander vignette

An intense and confident look at a focused Kris Statlander.

Bang Bang Gang were excited about Tailgate Brawl

Austin Gunn and Juice Robinson shared their hype at being in the Tailgate Brawl’s $200,000, with Robinson especially thrilled about its benefits to tax season.

Kazuchika Okada defeated Mascara Dorada

The opponents wrestled to a stalemate, leading to Dorada’s agility getting the better of the Rainmaker. Eventually, Okada fell victim to a Tornado Arm Drag. Tope suicida via a flying Dorada rendered Okada dazed on the floor. Fortunately for Okada, a dropkick from the top rope blasted Dorado to the floor. Dorada planted Okada with a DDT to the ring apron, gaining a moment to recover. Okada flew into the ropes following Dorado’s Monkey Flip. A Tornado Crossoby left the Rainmaker shattered outside. Dorada devastated Okada with a 450 Splash, nearly gifting him a win. Dorada ducked Okada’s Rainmaker, almost winning the match. Okada stole Takeshita’s Raging Fire before defeating Dorada with a Rainmaker Lariat.

(A rollercoaster of madness between two great talents, who are somewhere on my top ten wrestlers of the year.)

Triangle of Madness video package

Skye Blue and Julia Hart preached about their successes in the past few years. Thekla concluded, warning foes of Blue and Hart that they don’t know how “toxic” they can get yet.

Mercedes Mone defeated Red Velvet for the ROH World TV Championship

Although she reached for everything in her arsenal, Mone struggled to escape Velvet’s hard-hitting style. Finally, a dropkick scooted a resting Velvet violently to the floor. Statlander on commentary fell prey to Mone shoving Velvet across the commentary desk. Referee Aubrey Edwards almost accused Mone of a chair shot, courtesy of the classic Eddie Guerrero spot, and Velvet took advantage, knocking her challenger down.

Velvet decked Mone with a Bulldog. Attempting a Knockout Punch, Velvet had to instead fight out of a Statement Maker. A Short-Armscissors nearly depleted the CEO. Mone desperately retorted with a Lungblower. Mone struck Velvet with the Meteora for the pinfall, earning her 13th Championship as the new ROH Women’s World TV Championship.

Post-match: Mone danced gloatingly on the commentary desk. Kris Statlander stared studiously at her and soon dropped to a Meteora.

(Sincerely, Red Velvet should make more appearances on AEW. She’s captivating and can add something in the roster, especially if most of the women’s roster is focusing on tag team gold.)

Final Thoughts

Tonight’s show was a thrill ride, justifying all three hours of runtime. On its own, this episode felt like its own pay-per-view, which is all you can ask for in a go-home show. Let’s hope that Full Gear’s cogs carry that momentum in its rotation. Unquestionably, the Timeless Love Bomb’s match against Alex Windsor and Riho became not only the best match in the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament, but the best bout on this special episode.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – AEW – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on AEW Dynamite/Collision and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
