The episode will be sure to draw a big audience on YouTube, as it will feature John Cena’s final match before he retires from professional wrestling.

According to the DLC title, the five Superstars included define the retro ’80s nostalgia of SNME’s peak era. But who is included in the bonus pack?

Jesse Ventura

As a heel color commentator during the 1980s, Jesse Ventura embodied the aesthetic of Saturday Night’s Main Event during its original run. Ventura provided an excellent foil to Vince McMahon and Gorilla Monsoon at the commentator’s desk, often supporting the villainous stars of the day with his comically biased opinions.

One of the early pioneers of the wrestler-turned-commentator character, Monsoon played a pivotal role in WWE’s mainstream shift at the time. His involvement in the recent revival of the episodic specials has been well-received by many fans of the show’s original run.4

“Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff

Orndorff played a key role in the popularity of Saturday Night’s Main Event during the mid-1980s. During Hulk Hogan’s dominant first reign as WWE Champion, Mr. Wonderful provided one of Hogan’s greatest rivals during the world championship run.

Their rivalry was first ignited by Orndorff turning on then partner Hogan, establishing him as a serious title contender. This led to a title match at SNME VII in October 1986, which Hogan won. But it would be the rematch that would define the acclaimed rivalry. Squaring off in a steel cage for the title once more, both Hogan and Orndorff escaped, hitting the floor simultaneously. The two referees named different winners, and the match was eventually declared a draw. Hogan won decisively after the match was restarted.

Tito Santana

Santana was often viewed as one of the finest mid-card WWE Superstars of the 1980s and 1990s. Whilst Tito never quite broke into a highly competitive main event scene, he thrived as a highly respected workhorse. Delivering consistently entertaining matches, Santana elevated his opponents while elevating himself.

His SNME XXVII encounter with Mr. Perfect in July 1990 showcased both mid-carders’ finest qualities, delivering the match of the event. Fighting for the Intercontinental title, it was a closely contested match that saw Perfect narrowly defeat Santana to retain.

Junkyard Dog

The subsequent inclusion on the list is definitely a character that the villainous Jesse Ventura wouldn’t have been supporting over the airwaves. JYD is best remembered as one of the most popular babyfaces during the 1980s. Many fans viewed JYD as the no.2 babyface at the company, only surpassed, at the time, by Hulk Hogan.

A favorite with both older and younger fans for his charismatic and comedic antics during shows, his working-class gimmick also made him highly relatable to many members of WWE’s fanbase. Junkyard Dog was a fixture of the SNME calendar, wrestling multiple times at the event throughout the 1980s. He often paired with Hulk Hogan, main eventing SNME VI in a tag team victory over the Funk Brothers.

Sid Justice

After his passing last year, many fans expected Sid Justice to return to the WWE 2K series. SNME XXX provided Justice with one of his most memorable moments in WWE. Teaming with Hulk Hogan against the Undertaker and Ric Flair, Justice turned on the Hulkster, abandoning him during the match. The move, which turned Justice heel, provided the springboard for the WrestleMania VII main event, which Hogan won.

Photo Credit: By Mandy Coombes – https://www.flickr.com/photos/mandycoombes/6775153144, CC BY-SA 2.0,

Justice would go on to win the WWE Championship twice, beating Shawn Michaels in 1996 and Bret Hart in 1997. Despite being a heel, Justice would often get cheered heavily during his matches. Arguably, one can trace Sid’s immense heel status back to that betrayal at SNME XXX.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE/2K Games – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE 2K25 and other news stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
