Yes, he is impressive in the ring with a nice move set. But that’s not why fans have been going crazy for him. His entrance song is very catchy, with him singing “I Believe in Joe Hendry” with clap breaks when he’s not singing. He also likes to pop up anywhere like a wizard. Just say his name anywhere at any time, and he’ll magically appear in front of you.

Since he began appearing on NXT last year, the Performance Center audience has also gotten a taste of Hendry mania, which they have also loved very much. However, that’s pretty much the only thing he’s been doing out of the ring. Will fans keep loving the sing-alongs, or will the magic run out at some point, forcing him to change?

Hendry Has an Impressive Song and Catchphrase

There are many ways to get over with the audience in professional wrestling. Some have great move sets that set them apart from the other wrestlers. Others have flashy apparel and mic skills that make their characters special. In recent years, catchphrases have caught on with the WWE fanbase. The most obvious one right now is Jey Uso’s “YEET”. Like Hendry, he also has a grand entrance and catchphrase combo. His song literally spells out his gimmick, which adds to his character.

Saying his name actually means a random appearance by him, like magic. The song was actually created in 2019 when he was in Ring of Honor. If something’s lasted for several years, why bother changing it? The fans love his overall character. To this day, they are still reacting well to his appearances and song, which means they aren’t getting tired of him.

The Repetition Could Spell Trouble if It’s Overdone

Many fans of WWE love Roman Reigns due to his 1316-day reign as Universal Champion. He also has a catchphrase, “Acknowledge Me”, that he says every time he’s in the ring. But his fans never tire of him since he only shows up every couple of months. That’s Hendry’s schedule now since he’s signed to TNA. But it’s clear that at some point, he will sign with WWE and be in NXT full-time. His song and gimmick work now because he isn’t there every week. He’s still treated as a special attraction.

When he makes the jump, he’ll likely be on television every week. Doing the same song and dance every week no longer makes it special. Unless he changes it up, he risks boring fans. His appeal is high now, but when he is in NXT full-time, will his popularity stay where it is currently?

Will Hendry’s Appeal Last When He’s Signed with WWE?

Right now, Hendry is experiencing a surge in popularity. His catchy theme song and crowd participation have made him a hit in two separate companies. The gimmick actually works beyond the song as well, leading to many wrestlers using it to both their advantage and disadvantage. Everyone loves it when he appears on television. But he only appears on NXT sparingly, which is why fans cheer so much when he does show up. He’s probably going to move on to NXT full-time when his contract with TNA is up.

When that happens, it’ll be interesting to see what happens to his popularity. Since his whole character is appealing, will that save his act from being stale when he shows up every week? But an overexposure could lead to a decrease in popularity.
