After a video recapping his seventh world championship victory at Saturday Night’s Main Event, CM Punk came out to a raucous crowd as he walked through the backstage area and out to the ring, title slung over his shoulder. Punk enjoyed his victory lap (literally) before soaking in the applause for a few minutes and doing his usual opening schtick.

Punk addressed the crowd and started by thanking everyone who helped him get to this point as chants of “you deserve it” rang out. Punk thanked the crowd but said he’s going to note the difference between earned and deserved in a bit. Punk thanked his wife, AJ Lee, for always standing next to him in the bad times and the good. He thanked the fans next, saying he doesn’t get to be champion without each and every single one of them. More “CM Punk” chants. Punk thanks Jey Uso, who gets a bit of a mixed reaction. Punk thanks Uso for the fight and says he hopes they can still be friends. But as he said originally, he didn’t come back to make friends, he did so to make money and be champion. Punk said he doesn’t know how much time he has left but SummerSlam taught him he needs to hold on as tight as he can. The good news is there is no snake in the grass, Seth Rollins, waiting around to cash in a briefcase…Punk then pauses the crowd and asks them to indulge him as he mocks Rollins, swinging the belt over his head. He wishes Rollins a speedy recovery before telling him to stay out of his business or he’ll put him back on the couch.

The title is validation. He is no longer the king without a crown. He knows there is a target on his back and if he doesn’t show up week in and week out as the best in the world he could lose the title. He knows there is a line, he hears the Vision say they are coming for his gold. He wants to be a fighting champion, namely because there is a lot of people he wants to punch in the face – Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, Paul Heyman. Punk also says he wants to test himself against the best including AJ Styles, who Punk says has earned a title shot. And then there is Dominik Mysterio, who hasn’t earned one but who Punk wants to punch in the face. He’s not hiding from anybody. He namedrops JD McDonagh, Finn Balor, Sheamus, and John Cena. Punk says he knows Cena doesn’t have much time left but Punk’s not here for a long time, just a good time, and if Cena wants one last shot, he can come get some. Punk says the invitation is open to anyone in the back because the champ is here…and out walks Logan Paul.

Punk backtracks and says anybody but Paul. He wants nothing to do with him. He tells Paul blue is his color and he should go to SmackDown and challenge Ilya Dragonov for the United States Championship instead. Paul takes a mic and despite Punk’s protestations, Paul says he is unavoidable and unaffordable. He says Punk is a used car while he is a ferrari. Paul says he beat AJ Styles at WrestleMania and he’s been in the ring with John Cena. Paul says everyone knows he’s earned a title shot before…

Paul Heyman walks out with the Vision saying he heard the reference Punk made about being a king without a crown. Heyman said that’s not what he sees. He sees a king without a crown and. b***h without an owner, referencing Paul. Heyman says Reed and Breakker should be at the front of the line not Paul. He said Paul’s not the front or even the back. He’s in the line waiting to get in line. Heyman reminds Punk he’s been champion for two days, which is 432 days short of when ‘they’ were champion and he wasn’t the one that lost ‘their’ title. Heyman says Paul is in the wrong place at the wrong time and when he won’t budge, Paul says he was there first before Breakker approaches. He says Heyman bought everyone two weeks to live. They’ve had to be patient but he’s not waiting anymore. Breakker says the title belongs to him and there is nothing standing in his way. He tells Punk and Paul to leave his ring. Punk tells Paul to fight with him but Paul goes to leave instead. Breakker won’t let him though and he and Reed end up in the ring attacking Punk as Paul looks on. Finally, Paul goes back in the melee and it doesn’t end well for him as he eats a tsunami. Punk is back in with a steel chair, clearing the Vision from the ring as the crowd cheer him on.

Backstage later in the night, Punk runs into Uso. Uso says something is telling him to help Punk out and stand by him. Punk doesn’t know if he can trust him, if he’s talking to Uso or Little Roman. Uso promises he’s talking to Main Event Jey Uso, the guy he went toe-to-toe with on Saturday. Uso says together they can end the Vision problem tonight. Punk tells Uso he’s gonna get his gear on before they ‘yeet.’ Later, Heyman is backstage and says Uso was always his favorite member of the Bloodline as he always kept him guessing. He wonders why Uso would team with the man who just beat him. Uso says he doesn’t owe Heyman an explanation but Punk faced him man to man, no tricks, and he respects him for that. Heyman says that’s not what the tribal chief would do but Uso interrupts him. He doesn’t care what Roman would say or what Jimmy would say. He doesn’t care what anyone has to say about him. He only cares about what he has to say. Heyman says this saves him a difficult conversation because he asked the Brons to wait but now the leashes are off. If someone doesn’t conform to the Vision, they get smacked at the door. They’ll get their asses handed to them every week. Heyman says that doesn’t apply to him as he can see Uso has his own vision and he likes it. He wishes him luck.

Nikki Bella/Stephanie Vaquer vs Roxanne Perez/Raquel Rodriguez

Bella and Perez start things off after the commercial break, locking up and looking for an early advantage. Bella seems to have the initial lead before Perez tags out to Rodriguez. She takes Bella down almost immediately. Bella grabs the waist but it’s all Rodriguez as she easily powers out and throws Bella into the ring post. Vaquer tags in and the crowd is hot for there two. Rodriguez takes Vaquer out with a shoulder tackle before powering her up but Vaquer fights off and kicks Rodriguez in the jaw. Perez tags back in as all four women end up in the ring briefly. Vaquer has Perez set up for the Devil’s Kiss but Rodriguez pulls her out of the ring. That sets up for double crossbodys from the babyfaces and we go to break.

Bella and Perez are in the ring as it’s noted Judgment Day controlled the action over the commercial. Bella fights back, pushing Perez into a tag with Rodriguez before Bella can make her own tag to Vaquer. Bella climbs to the ropes and hits a huge tornado DDT to take Rodriguez down. Bella slowly crawls for the hot tag as Vaquer takes over. She goes for a quick roll up before attacking Rodriguez with a series of strikes before hitting the corner dragon screw bringing Rodriguez to the mat. Running meteora before Vaquer looks to lock in the SVP but no, Rodriguez fights off and sends Vaquer onto the apron. Vaquer fights off and heads to the top for a crossbody but she can’t get the three count. Perez tags in as the crowd chants “this is awesome.” Perez to the ropes but Vaquer grabs her and takes her down, setting up Devil’s Kiss. Bella tags in and hits the Rack Attack 2.0 but Rodriguez breaks up the pin. Vaquer to the top but Rodriguez catches the crossbody. Both women end up on the outside as Rodriguez reverses a Devil’s Kiss to send Vaquer crashing on the apron. Unseen by the ref, Rodriguez hits a huge right on Bella, allowing Perez to hit Pop Rox.

Backstage with Nikki Bella and Stephanie Vaquer later in the night. Bella apologizes but Vaquer says she doesn’t have to worry about it. Bella says she came back and she feels like she’s rusty and making bad decisions and wondering why she’s here. Vaquer says she is amazing and just needs to start believing in herself as she’s one of the women who paved the way for people like her. Bella says that means so much to her and she knows Vaquer is going to crush it next week.

Winner: Perez/Rodriguez

John Cena’s Final Match

A video package aired with Cena talking about his final match. He said his answer has always been the same. On his last day, he wants his final challenger to be someone to step up the way he did on his first day. Cena says starting on Raw next week, there will be a 16-man tournament where the competitors will be chosen at random from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and maybe some wrestlers who don’t even work here. Cena says whoever his final opponent will be won’t be handpicked but hard-earned. He wishes the competitors luck and says one last time at Saturday Night’s Main Event, he’ll say to them, you want some, come get some.

We see Adam Pearce backstage with the ball roller as it’s announced the draw begins tonight.

Later in the night, Pearce announces the first two matches for the tournament: Rusev vs Damian Priest and Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sheamus. Nick Aldis will draw the next two opening round matches this Friday.

Penta vs El Grande Americano

Tres Americanos are ringside as Penta and El Grande Americano start in the middle of the ring with fast and high-paced lucha libre action. Penta with a nearfall after a suplex but El Grande kicks out. Huge kick from El Grande but Penta throws him over the apron. Both men fight to the apron as Penta looks for a mexican destroyer but no, El Grande reverses into a backdrop. He mocks Penta on the ground as we head to break.

Penta takes over as the match returns from commercial, getting El Grande down in the corner before hitting the corner handstick kick into a cover. The outside Americanos looks on as Penta heads to the top but once again, El Grande stops him in his tracks. He grabs Penta’s wrist and heads to the top but no, Penta reverses and kicks El Grande upside down in the ropes. Another nearfall. Both men rise, mask to mask before chopping each other back and forth. Penta with another kick and tornado DDT to take down El Grande, who rolls to the outside. Penta over the ropes to take down both men on the outside. Penta returns to the apron but before he can do anything, one of the Americanos takes out Penta’s legs. The ref sees it though and throws him out but the distraction is enough to allow the other Americano to load El Grande’s mask with the metal plate. Penta to the top but no, he’s taken down by the lone remaining Americano, who is also thrown out. Penta comes off the top of the ringpost to take him out on the outside. It’s all Penta as he lands the Mexican Destroyer off the ropes, avoiding the loaded mask and claiming the W.

After the match, the Americanos try to take out Penta but he’s too smart and evades their attack as he returns up the ramp.

Winner: Penta

Dominik Mysterio Has Words for his Pops

Mysterio tells the crowd to boo down to the king of the luchadores as they cheer. He says he proved he is without a doubt the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all-time, greatest AAA Mega Champion of all-time, and the greatest luchador of all-time. Mysterio says there is no man on this planet who can stop him, which of course brings out…Rey Mysterio!

The crowd chant “holy s**t” as Rey stares down his son. He tells Dom it’s time to be real. He can say he’s the greatest champion of all-time all day long, Mysterio doesn’t care. But he draws the line when he says he’s king of the luchadores. When he says that…the crowd begins chanting for Dom..Rey says it’s insulting when Dom says that. He really thinks he’s the greatest but what about guys like El Santo, Blue Demon, Eddie Guerrero? Huge pop and chants for Eddie. Rey asks Dom if he thinks he’s better than them before Dom tells Rey to “keep my father’s name out of your mouth.” Another huge pop for that one. Dom says he is better than El Santo, Blue Demon, and Eddie Guerrero. Finally, boos for Dom. He says there is one luchador he knows he is better than and that’s Rey. Rey says he can disrespect him and he doesn’t care but he’s not going to let him disrespect lucha libre.

Rey takes his jacket off as Dom asks what he’s going to do about it. Dom says Rey is jealous as the crowd chant for Rey to “whoop his a**”. At the end of the day, Dom says Rey is just there to cash in because he made the Mysterio name relevant and he’s already surpassed everything Rey has ever done. Dom says he’s going to kick his ass again if he doesn’t get out of his ring. Rey says he’s going to leave but first he needs Dom to understand three things – as long as Rey is around, Dom will never be king of the luchadores, this will never be his ring, and he’ll never be the greatest Mysterio. Dom tries a cheapshot but Rey fires back and hits Dom with the 6-1-9. He goes up for the frogsplash but Dom rolls out of the ring.

The Man Comes Around

Becky Lynch shows up and jumps on the announce desk and says she’s got a lot to get off her chest. She’s been going through a lot. Her hot husband is injured at home, the Vision had lost their minds and ruined everything, she’s been saddled with a crooked referee hellbent on holding her down, and after all of that she was sent home to cool down. Lynch says she is the definition of cool. Lynch says the only cool thing to come out of New Mexico is a show about how much meth they do. Lynch says Maxxine Dupri isn’t cool. She got to step in the ring with Lynch and now she won’t shut up about it. Lynch says the fans made her feel like she belongs but she doesn’t. Lynch isn’t just good, she’s the best of all-time, just ask Sports Illustrated. Lynch says she is a lifelong student of the game. It won’t make a difference how much Dupri trains as one wrong move and it will be the last thing she does in her career. As she is leaving, she walks past the Kabuki Warriors, specifically Asuka.

Lyra and Bayley vs Kabuki Warriors

Backstage, Bayley and Lyra are getting ready for their match but Lyra is concerned about Bayley’s state-of-mind given how things went down with the Kabuki Warriors last week and how Bayley was spared.

Asuka and Valkyria start things off, locking up in the center of the ring and trading moves. Valkyria lands a series of kicks before tagging Asuka’s legs out from under her to set up the first nearfall of the match. Valkyria tags in to Bayley as Kairi Sane is in for the Warriors, seemingly adding to the narrative of Asuka not going after Bayley for reasons unknown. Asuka and Sane confer before Sane comes in with huge kicks to Bayley, sending her flying from the ring. Both women back in and Bayley sneaks a nearfall. Spinning elbow from Sane as she chops Bayley in the corner before Bayley throws her over to the apron. Sane quickly recovers and climbs to the top but Bayley kicks out of the pinning attempt. Valkyria back in and a quick double team move for the babyfaces. Valkyria gets a nearfall and another. She gets Sane up but Sane fights off and backs into a tag. Double team for the Warriors before Valkyria takes both out with a crossbody. Valkyria flies to the outside but no one is home and Asuka with the big boot and german suplex sending Valkyria to the floor as we head to break.

The Kabuki Warriors double team Valkyria as we return from commercial with Sane and Valkyria the legal women. Valkyria manages to fight back and buy herself some time as Bayley encourages the tag. Hot tag in to Bayley and Asuka as Bayley takes Asuka out with a series of rapid attacks. She throws Asuka into the ropes and hits a bulldog before climbing to the top and taking Asuka out with an elbow drop and cover for a nearfall. Sane with the blind tag as Bayley chases Asuka on the outside. Sane attacks Bayley on the outside and throws her back in the ring before climbing to the top. Bayley gets out of the way and hits the Bayley-to-Belly for a nearfall. Bayley fights back to take Asuka down from the ramp before hitting Sane with a sunset flip to set up the tag to Valkyria, who can’t quite finish Sane up. Both women climb to the top as Asuka stands on the apron to distract the ref and Valkyria. She drops down as Bayley follows her on the outside and Sane hits a double stomp. Bayley breaks up the pin. Sane back to the ropes but Valkyria catches her to set up a double team backbreaker and elbow combo with Bayley. Asuka pulls Sane to safety momentarily. She takes out Valkyria as Sane rolls her back into the ring. Asuka tags back in and the Warriors go for their own tag team move before Bayley pulls Sane off the apron. Asuka and Valkyria in the ring and Asuka gets the Asuka Lock.

Valkyria begs off the attack as Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss arrive to even the odds. The Kabuki Warriors leave as Valkyria tends to Bayley in the ring.

Winners: Kabuki Warriors

AJ Styles and Dragon Lee vs Judgment Day

Backstage with the Judgment Day as it’s announced Raquel Rodriguez will face Stephanie Vaquer next week for the women’s world championship. Balor says they weren’t invited his celebration so they couldn’t have helped. Perez says Dom should be the bigger person and go back Judgment Day up tonight. It would mean a lot. McDonagh goes for a quick cover on Lee before Balor tags in. Quick tags from Balor and McDonagh. Balor climbs the ropes and goes after Lee, but he fights out and takes down McDonagh with a kick and Balor with a crossbody. Huge hurricanrana to McDonagh on the outside before Balor gets a nearfall on Lee in the ring. Judgment Day is pretty much in control early on but Lee hits a dragon bomb sit out to finally get Styles tagged in. Styles and Balor trade strikes in the middle before McDonagh gets involved and eats an attack for his troubles. Balor rolls out to regroup but Styles flies over the top to take out both challengers as we head to break.

Back from commercial and Lee and Balor are in the ring with Dominik Mysterio at ringside. It’s all Lee until Balor hits a slingblade and double drop kick to set up for a coup de grace but nobody’s home and Lee gets a quick roll up. Balor kicks out and maintains his control as McDonagh is back on the apron. Styles and McDonagh both with hot tags as Styles is sent to the ropes and takes out Mysterio. With Mysterio on the ringpost distracting the ref, Balor gets up but can’t hit the coup de grace as Styles rolls out of the way and McDonagh takes the brunt of it. Styles setting up for a clash but McDonagh fights out only to eat a Phenomenal Forearm instead. Balor breaks up the cover. He confers with Mysterio, running the play. The ref notices as Mysterio goes to hit Styles with the championship before Sheamus arrives to neutralize things. The distraction allows Balor to hit Styles with the shillelagh but Lee breaks up the pin. Sheamus chases Mysterio to the outside and throws him into the barricade. Lee hits Balor with a hurricanrana before he flies on the outside. Reed and Punk are legal as Reed taunts the champ before tagging in Breakker. The Vision continue to isolate Punk in their corner as Breakker taunts Uso on the apron before landing a huge flying knee to Punk. He goes for another huge move after taunting Uso again but Punk moves out of the way and sends Breakker flying over the ropes. Punk can’t make the tag though as Reed clears Uso from the apron. Methodical tags from the Vision as a huge double team move takes out Punk but Uso breaks it up. Punk fights to his feet but he’s no match for Breakker’s strength. Breakker lifts Punk up but Punk fights out and manages to take Breakker down. Punk and Breakker make the hot tags as Uso comes in on the offensive taking Reed down. Both Reed and Breakker isolate Uso as Breakker takes him out with a massive spear and Reed hits the tsunami. Punk gets back in the ring with a chair as Breakker and Reed grab ones of their own.
