CM Punk and Jey Uso had to crawl their way through their own respective number one contender’s matches to secure their right to square off and be seated on the throne as WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

While the WWE Universe thought these two had a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for one another, gold was dangled in between them, leading to both men taking the gloves off, and for good reason. Punk was screwed out of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship back at WWE SummerSlam, and ever since, he’s been looking to reclaim the title he felt was his.

At the same time, Jey Uso has had a bad couple of months. With the losses racking up for the former World Heavyweight Champion and 2025 Royal Rumble winner, Jey saw it fit to change things up and find new methods to ensure he kept his “Main Event” status. WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI saw both these competitors practically try to end one another to claim the prize for themselves, and quite frankly, folks, it was a sight to behold.

The match began with both feeling each other out, which isn’t a surprise because this was their first one-on-one showdown. The match intensified to an insane degree in practically the last two minutes of the match. In the bottom of the ninth, Jey Uso pulled off CM Punk’s own move on him, hitting a GTS on the “Second City Saint.” Punk would respond with a Spear and a near-fall. Punk would hit a GTS, then Jey would stumble onto Punk’s shoulders once again.

Before Punk could hit him with another Go-To-Sleep, Uso would lock in the move that netted him his first WWE World Heavyweight Title, a Sleeper Hold. CM Punk would turn this into an Anaconda Vice, but Jey would get to the ropes in time. Punk would move him to the center of the ring, but Jey countered with a Crucifix Pin, but it wasn’t enough. Uso would mount more offense, hitting multiple Superkicks.

Punk would not go away, and when Jey Uso made a mistake, he would hit another GTS. For good measure and to put the nail in this proverbial coffin, Punk would put an exclamation point on this match with one last GTS, as he captures his 7th world title, after the 1, 2,3.

As Michael Cole put it, the “Best in the World” is now on top of the world to end an amazing WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME) XLI, CM Punk, Jey Uso, and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
