Before Cena could even speak, Chi-Town showered him with thunderous “Thank You, Cena!” chants. Cena thanked the Chicago crowd, stating that he wants to soak everything in, dropping huge news that this will be his final SmackDown. Cena would reminisce on his career over the last 20+ years, before United States Champion Sami Zayn would interrupt. However, Zayn did not want to interrupt just for anything, wanting to express his gratitude to Cena. Not only that, but Zayn wants Cena to go out in style, challenging him to a United States Title Match, leading to an impromptu banger of an opener.

The U.S. Open Challenge began dead even between Zayn and Cena. However, the “measuring stick of WWE’ would go on an insane sequence, hitting Sami with an Attitude Adjustment for a near fall. John would dig deep into his bag of tricks, whipping out a Pop-Up Powerbomb, as well as an Angle Slam, paying tribute to his greatest rivals. Unfortunately, Zayn wasn’t in the mood to let go of his newly won gold. Even after hitting a Chicago-made GTS and an edge-filled and tribal Spear to Zayn, Cena couldn’t put away Sami. Cena would attempt an RKO out of nowhere, only to be countered. John would bounce back, hitting Zayn with an Avalanche AA. But John could not capitalize. Brock Lesnar would make his return to SmackDown to destroy Cena, clearing the house and making a statement to end the match in a no-contest.

Next up, Aleister Black and Damian Priest settle the score. As Priest was making his entrance, Black would sneak attack him before SmackDown went to break. To no one’s surprise, it was an extremely physical match between these two dangerous combatants. As the match was coming to an end, Priest would hit a Razor’s Edge on Aleister on the announce table. Priest would roll him back into the ring, in an attempt to finish him off. Black would grab WWE official Ryan Tran, putting a barrier in between them. Black would push the referee towards Priest’s way and stunning him with a violent Black Mass for the pin.

The “Beautiful Madness” and Women’s United States Champion Giulia, accompanied by Kiana James, defends the gold against number one contender Michin. It was a closely contested matchup throughout, with Michin taking control in the final moments of the match. Michin almost had the U.S. Title in the bag; unfortunately, Kiana James’ distraction would cost her. With Michin distracted, Giulia would hit the Arrivederci Knee, pinning her and retaining the championship. Post-match, Kiana James would continue the assault, leaving Michin battered and bruised after a tough loss.

“Burn it Down!” would blare through the speakers on the Allstate Arena, as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins would make his presence felt in a skybox in the venue, joining his wife, WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch, who arrived early in the night. They’re about to confront CM Punk in his home state. Lynch would proceed to insult Chicago, essentially telling them to bow down to her, before CM Punk would enter the arena to a huge ovation. Becky would continue her verbal assault, rubbing it even further, and continuing what she started on WWE Monday Night Raw. Punk would not stand for this, and after a few choice words, Punk would introduce the woman who’s going to back him. “Light it up!” would exit the speakers, signaling the return of AJ Lee. The former record-breaking Divas Champion looked like she didn’t lose a step, beating down Lynch like she never retired. Rollins and Lynch would hightail out of there, as CM Punk and AJ Lee share a heartfelt embrace to end the show.

That’s all for REAL-TIME WWE SmackDown results for September 5, 2025, live from Chicago, Illinois

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on the WWE SmackDown results and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
